Most hotels and villas are open from March/April through October/November. The towns on the water with beaches include Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Praiano, Positano, and Vietri sul Mare. Towns higher up on the cliffs include Agerola, Ravello, Scala, and Tramonti. Amalfi Coast is crossed by Strada Statale 163 Amalfitana (world-famous known as Amalfi Drive), a 50km (30 miles) stretch of road from north to south. If we take the two entrance points to the Amalfi Coast with Sorrento in the north and Salerno in the south, the road goes through the towns in this order: Positano | Praiano | Amalfi | Atrani | Minori | Maiori | Cetara | Vietri Sul Mare It's important to know the order as that would make exploring the towns a bit easier. The Sorrento to Salerno direction is more preferrable as, by being in the right lane, you are right next to the cliffs with no opposing traffic to block your view. There are no trains serving the Amalfi Coast. Roberto Rossellini amava così tanto questi paesaggi da realizzarci diversi film, anche se il più famoso resta Paisà. A Sorrento, invece, Dino Risi girò Pane, amore e... con Sophia Loren e Vittorio De Sica. E John Huston scelse Ravello per ambientare Il tesoro dell’Africa con Humphrey Bogart e Gina Lollobrigida. Un legame, quello fra cinema e Costiera che continua anche oggi. Come dimostra P Amalfi il fatto che Christopher Nolan ha voluto come set per alcune scene del suo ultimo film di spionaggio, Tenet. Oggi, di celebrity e divi di Hollywood, da queste parti ce ne sono persino più che in passato. Lo sanno tutti ma nessuno, paparazzi a parte, li vede. La ragione è che sono invisibili: a bordo dei mega yacht ancorati al largo, si spostano fino a terra in motoscafo giusto il tempo di arroccarsi in Uno scorcio di Amalfi, che si apre a hotel gelosissimi della privacy dei propri clienti ventaglio sul mare, (Woody Harrelson a parte, che si sente ormai sotto le rocce dei Monti Lattari cittadino a tutti gli effetti di Ravello e che se ne CONDÉ NAST TRAVELLER per AMERICAN EXPRESS COSTIERA AMALFITANA gira indisturbato per il paese). L’unico modo per incontrarli a distanza semi ravvicinata sono i festival che, d’estate, rappresentano un’altra attrazione della zona. POSITANO BY JOHN STEINBECK I first heard of Positano from Alberto Moravia. It was very hot in Rome. He said, “Why don’t you go down to Positano on the Amalfi Coast? It is one of the fine places of Italy”. Later John McKnight of United States Information Service told me the same thing. He had spent a year there working on a book. Half a dozen people echoed this. Positano kind of moved in on us and we found ourselves driving down to Naples on our way. To an American, Italian traffic is at first just down-right nonsense. It seems hysterical, it follows no rule. You cannot figure what the driver ahead or behind or beside you is going to do next and he usually does it. But there are other hazards besides the driving technique. There are the motor scooters, thousands of them, which buzz at you like mosquitoes. There is a tiny little automobile called “Topolino” or “mouse” which hides in front of larger cars; there are gigantic trucks and tanks in which most of Italy’s goods are moved; and finally there are assorted livestock, hay wagons, bicycles, lone horses and mules out for a stroll, and to top it all there are the pedestrians who walk blissfully on the highways never looking about. To give this madness more color, everyone blows the horn all the time. This deafening, screaming, milling, tire-screeching mess is ordinary Italian highway traffic. My drive from Venice to Rome had given me a horror of it amounting to cowardice.

How to Get Here
The Hotel Onda Verde is located at the east end of Praiano, in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, on the SS163, 7 km from Amalfi and 7 km from Positano. The best way to reach us is by private taxi transfer. With pleasure we can arrange a comfortable Mercedes to pick you up at Naples train station or airport for a one way fare of Euro 130,00 (up to 3 persons) or with a minivan up to 7 persons Euro 185,00. – Pick ups can eventually be arranged from any other location, hotel, or town at different costs. – Transfers from 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM are subjected to an extra charge. COMING BY CAR From Northern Italy, Rome or Naples. Take the highway Autostrada A1 Rome-Naples, (IMPORTANT: Before Naples, in Caserta, there are directional signboards for the Amalfi Coast; be careful to don’t follow them because they would bring you on a much longer route). Continue onto E45 (signs for Salerno – Reggio Calabria). Merge onto Austostrada A3. Exit at Castellammare di Stabia and follow the signs to Sorrento. Before you reach Sorrento you’ll begin to see signs to Positano and the Amalfi Coast, follow them, and 7 kilometers after Positano you will be in Praiano. Our hotel parking is at the end of the town, on your right. Take the elevator down to the reception: floor -6. The journey lasts approximately 4 hours from Rome and 1 hour and half from Naples.
