PRESS RELEASE – Friday 10Th January CASTING ANNOUNCED for the WORLD PREMIERE of CHLOË MOSS' RUN SISTER RUN, a CO- PRODUCTIO PRESS RELEASE – Friday 10th January CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR THE WORLD PREMIERE OF CHLOË MOSS’ RUN SISTER RUN, A CO- PRODUCTION FROM PAINES PLOUGH, SHEFFIELD THEATRES AND SOHO THEATRE IMAGES CAN BE DOWNLOADED HERE Casting has today been announced for a new play by award-winning playwright Chloë Moss. RUN SISTER RUN, a co-production between Paines Plough, Sheffield Theatres and Soho Theatre, explores the lives of two sisters and the different directions life takes them in as they desperately hold onto their unbreakable bond. The production is directed by Paines Plough co-Artistic Director Charlotte Bennett and the cast includes: Lucy Ellinson; Helena Lymbery; Lucas Button; Silas Carson. The show will open at Sheffield Theatres on 27 February with a Press Night on 4 March before transferring to Soho Theatre from 25 March with a Press Night on 27 March. The production runs until 2 May. ‘You can’t pick your family but if you could I’d still pick you’ Connie and Ursula are sisters, connected by the same beginning but heading in different directions. Spanning four decades up to the present day, nurture competes with nature as the pair navigate their unbreakable bond. Chloë Moss is an accomplished playwright and screenwriter. Her celebrated play THIS WIDE NIGHT (Clean Break, Soho Theatre, 2008) won the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn prize and was subsequently produced off-Broadway, starring Edie Falco. She has written numerous other plays including THE GATEKEEPER (Royal Exchange Theatre, 2012), FATAL LIGHT (for Clean Break at Soho Theatre, 2010 and 2011), CATCH (Royal Court Theatre, 2006), and HOW LOVE IS SPELT (Bush Theatre, 2004, and New York’s Summer Play Festival, 2005). She has also written extensively for television, including SIX WIVES (BBC One) and DICKENSIAN (Red Planet Pictures), and written episodes for NEW TRICKS (BBC One), THE SMOKE (Kudos), and PRISONER’S WIVES and THE SECRET DIARY OF A CALL GIRL (Tiger Aspect). She has also written CARE, a single drama for Warp Films and Sky Arts, and an original series SWITCH, co-written with Tim Price, for Touchpaper / ITV2. Charlotte Bennett directs. She is Joint Artistic Director of Paines Plough. Previously she was Associate Director at Soho Theatre where she led the new writing department, developing artists and commissions and programming the upstairs studio. For Soho she has directed WHITEWASH by Gabriel Bisset-Smith, HAPPY HOUR by Jack Rooke, curated a six-month off-site arts festival in Waltham Forest and led playwriting competition the Verity Bargate Award. Prior to this she was Artistic Director of Forward Theatre Project; an artists’ collective she founded.     Thursday 15 October NATIONAL THEATRE ANNOUNCES NEW ASSOCIATES AND PETER HALL BURSARY RECIPIENTS The National Theatre announced today that Rufus Norris, NT Director and Joint Chief Executive, has invited Ola Animashawun and Clint Dyer to join as Associates of the National Theatre. In addition, The Peter Hall Bursary has been expanded to support three new artists. The directors who have been invited to receive this fund are Ned Bennett, Ola Ince and Nancy Medina and they will be supported by the NT for the next two years. Ola Animashawun, was previously the founder and Head of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, where he was also an Associate. Ola will work at Associate level in both Learning and the New Work Department at the NT, as well as continuing in his role as Connections Dramaturg which he has held since 2018. In this new position he will work cross organisationally towards racial equity and increased representation both in the work presented on stage and at all levels in the NT’s workforce. Ola is joined by Clint Dyer who becomes an NT Associate following playing ‘Cutler’ in the NTs Olivier winning production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the success of Death of England and the programming of Death of England: Delroy, which will open in the Olivier theatre later this month. In this role Clint will work closely with Rufus Norris and the Senior Artistic team and together with the Associates will advise on programming decisions. He will also continue to act and write and direct his own work.

Allegro con brio 2. Tema con variazioni: Andante con moto 3. Rondo: Allegro Beethoven’s first three violin sonatas were composed between 1797–98. Although they were dedicated to Antonio Salieri, with whom he might briefly have studied, they show the unmistakable influence Mozart made on Beethoven’s music at the time, as he acquired full fluency in the Viennese Classical style. And in the customary Classical style, they are indicated as sonatas ‘for pianoforte and violin’, with both instruments having a more or less equal role. While the Op. 12 violin sonatas are not necessarily as formally daring as the piano sonatas of the same period, they reveal Beethoven’s firm grasp of how to write idiomatically for the violin, as well as his increasing understanding of how to create a sonata style based on the apparent unification of two opposing forces. The opening movement begins with a bold unison figure, which quickly gives way to a sonorous first subject. In the central development section, rapid passages of semiquavers are passed between violin and piano in quick sequence, making for a vigorous dialogue. The middle movement takes the form of a theme and variations, the theme being audibly based on the opening figure of the previous movement.

It encompasses both the post-war theatre archives held by the British Library, and also their post-1968 scripts collection. In addition, many oral history interviews have been carried out with visitors and theatre practitioners. The Project began at the University of Sheffield and later transferred to De Montfort University. The archive at Sheffield contains 170 CD-ROMs of interviews with theatre workers and audience members, including Glenda Jackson, Brian Rix, Susan Engel and Michael Frayn. There is also a collection of copies of correspondence between Gyorgy Lengyel and Michel and Suria Saint Denis, and between Gyorgy Lengyel and Sir John Gielgud, dating from 1958 to 1999.     Queer British Television: Policy and Practice, 1997-2007 Natalie Edwards PhD thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham School of American and Canadian Studies, January 2010 Abstract Representations of gay, lesbian, queer and other non-heterosexualities on British terrestrial television have increased exponentially since the mid 1990s. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters now routinely populate mainstream series, while programmes like Queer as Folk (1999-2000), Tipping the Velvet (2002), Torchwood (2006-) and Bad Girls (1999-2006) have foregrounded specifically gay and lesbian themes. This increase correlates to a number of gay-friendly changes in UK social policy pertaining to sexual behaviour and identity, changes precipitated by the election of Tony Blair’s Labour government in 1997. Focusing primarily on the decade following Blair’s installation as Prime Minister, this project examines a variety of gay, lesbian and queer-themed British television programmes in the context of their political, cultural and industrial determinants, with the goal of bridging the gap between the cultural product and the institutional factors which precipitated its creation. Ultimately, it aims to establish how and why this increase in LGBT and queer programming occurred when it did by relating it to the broader, government-sanctioned integration of gays, lesbians and queers into the imagined cultural mainstream of the UK. Unlike previous studies of lesbian, gay and queer film and television, which have tended to draw conclusions about cultural trends purely through textual analysis, this project uses government and broadcasting industry policy documents as well as detailed examination of specific television programmes to substantiate links between the cultural product and the wider world.
