Lienhard, C.: Geneva Natural History Museum, CP 6434, 1211 Geneva 6, Switzerland (corresponding author: [email protected]). Yoshizawa, K.: Systematic Entomology, School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Sapporo 060-8589, Japan. Introduction Though the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature only regulates the names of taxa in the family-group, genus-group and species-group (ICZN 1999, Article 1.2.2), it is often useful to know the authorship of names proposed for taxa at ranks above the family-group. There are no constraints concerning historical priority of these names. However, it may be useful to list the most frequently used names in a given classification of an animal group, indicating their authorship and the bibliographical references of their first publication. The following alphabetical list contains all names currently used in the generally accepted classification of psocids (see Lienhard & Smithers, 2002), or proposed in more recent modifications of this classification which are documented by Lienhard (2016, 2012–2018). The bibliographical references [author(s), year, page] correspond to the first publication of the name. The concept of the taxon concerned may have been considerably modified subsequently by the original author or by other authors using the same name. If the presently used spelling differs from the original spelling the latter is indicated in parentheses. !1 PSOCODEA Hennig, 1966: 187. Note: Hennig (1966) used the name Psocodea for the first time as an order name, in the same sense as it is presently used (Yoshizawa & Johnson, 2006). Lienhard, C.: Geneva Natural History Museum, CP 6434, 1211 Geneva 6, Switzerland (corresponding author: [email protected]). Yoshizawa, K.: Systematic Entomology, Graduate School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Sapporo 060-8589, Japan. Introduction Unfortunately, a comprehensive documentation of authorities for family-group names is lacking for psocids. This lack of information is particularly problematic in a period when phylogenetic research results in the frequent propositions of new classifications (e. g. Yoshizawa & Johnson, 2008, 2014; Yoshizawa et al., 2014; Yoshizawa, 2016). According to the principle of coordination applied to family-group names (ICZN 1999, Article 36) each name can be used in all ranks of the family-group with the same authorship and date, the rank-specific suffixes being -ina (subtribe), -ini (tribe), -inae (subfamily), -idae (family) and -oidea (superfamily). All psocid family-group names that we were able to retrieve from the literature are listed here, grouped by suborders (Trogiomorpha, Troctomorpha, Psocomorpha). The list for Trogiomorpha names is a revised version of that one recently published by Lienhard & Yoshizawa (2018). For each suborder the family-group names are listed alphabetically, each name in its original spelling and with its original suffix. For each name the authority [author(s), year, page] is indicated and, in parentheses, its type genus. For names with a non-evident stem the latter is indicated in square brackets, if necessary together with the correct spelling of the family-group name (according to mandatory changes or changes ruled by the ICZN). In bold type are all names used (often with a suffix that is not identical to the original one) in Lienhard & Smithers (2002) and those used in more recently proposed and generally accepted changes of the classification, which are documented by Lienhard (2016, 2012–2018). These publications also contain all bibliographical details about the type genera, while the bibliographical references concerning the family-group names are listed below. This list of 152 family-group names is an accessory result of many years of taxonomic research on psocids. It forms the first comprehensive documentation on the authorities of these names in this group. We invite the reader to inform us about errors or omissions! List of family-group names of Trogiomorpha Anomocopiidae [sic] Smithers, 1972: 337 [Anomocope-; Anomocopeidae] (Anomocopeus Badonnel, 1967) Archaeatropidae Baz & Ortuño, 2000: 369 (Archaeatropos Baz & Ortuño, 2000) Atropida Leach, 1815: 139 [Atropidae] (Atropos Leach, 1815) (see comment on Trogiidae) Dorypteryginae Enderlein, 1903a: 208 [Dorypteryg-] (Dorypteryx Aaron, 1883) Echinopsocidae Enderlein, 1906: 109 (Echinopsocus Enderlein, 1903). Comment: This is a replacement name for Lepidillinae Ribaga, 1905. Echmepterygini Karny, 1930: 448 [Echmepteryg-] (Echmepteryx Aaron, 1886) Empheriidae Kolbe, 1884: 37 (Empheria Hagen, 1856) Eosillinae Ribaga, 1908: 22 (Eosilla Ribaga, 1908) Lepidillinae Ribaga, 1905: 100 (Lepidilla Ribaga, 1905) (not Lepidilla Matthew, 1885; Crustacea). Comment: This is an invalid name, because its type genus is a junior homonym (see ICZN 1999, Article 39). See Echinopsocidae. Lepidopsocidae Enderlein, 1903a: 207 (Lepidopsocus Enderlein, 1903) Lepinotinae Enderlein, 1905: 3 (Lepinotus Heyden, 1850).
