ACE MENTOR PROGRAM OF WASHINGTON PRESENTATION NIGHT June 7, 2021 Zoom Virtual Meeting OURABOUT PROJECT ACE The ACE Mentor Program of Washington is just one affiliate of the ACE Mentor Program of America, based in Washington D.C. There are 77 affiliates all over the country. ACE is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. The program’s mission is to engage, excite, and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in the integrated construction industry through mentoring; and to support their continued advancement in the industry through scholarships and grants. ACE in Washington started in Seattle 2001, with just one team with 11 students. It continued to grow, expanding to Bellevue/Eastside in 2006 and Tacoma/SouthSound in 2017. In all, thousands of students have met with hundreds of mentors to learn about architecture, engineering, and construction. To date, $864,000 in scholarships have been awarded to seniors going on to study these fields in college, and another $120,000 will be awarded later this month. And the best part? Several ACE alumni are back here working for the firms that mentored them -- and mentoring for ACE! FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM! @ACEMENTORSEATTLE “LIKE” US ON FACEBOOK! WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/SEATTLEACE STUDENTOUR PROJECT PROJECT This year, 160+ students from 57 area high schools completed ACE. Eleven ACE teams hosted students from Bainbridge to Black Diamond and Gig Harbor to Mukilteo, and everything in between. The groups met over Zoom for a total of 20 sessions, learning every step of the building process, from the initial architectural designs to the final construction components. Each team responded to an “RFP” (Request for Proposal) and tackled a design challenge. This year’s project is a public STEAM technology classroom/ laboratory for high school students, with prominent sites selected in Bellevue and Tacoma. Details include: Î Budget of $12 million Î 10,000-square-foot building with computer labs, wet labs, meeting space, kitchen/dining, and flexible areas Î Estimated completion date of Sept. 2023 Î Incorporate sustainable design to achieve LEED Gold Î Design should integrate into the existing campus site Special thank you to Seneca Group for providing the 2021 RFP and serving as an “Owner” mentor during sessions this year. Because this year was 100% virtual, the students are once again presenting their final designs over Zoom, instead of in lecture halls around Puget Sound.
