    A Yellow-throated Marten Martes flavigula carrying a Small Indian Civet Viverricula indica Babu Ram LAMICHHANE1*, Chiranjibi Prasad POKHERAL1, Ambika Prasad KHATIWADA1, Rama MISHRA2 and Naresh SUBEDI1 Abstract Yellow-throated Marten Martes flavigula has a wide geographic distribution, but little is known about its ecology and behaviour. A camera-trap survey in and around Chitwan National Park, Nepal, photographed a solitary Marten carrying a Small Indian Civet Viverricula indica. The animal was in a grassland patch amid Sal Shorea robusta forest. It is unclear whether the Marten killed the Civet. Recent camera-trap surveys suggest that Yellow-throated Marten is widespread in Chitwan NP with records from altitudes of 190–675 m; many records are from Sal forest. The study area consists of alluvial deposits of the Narayani and the Rapti River of Pleistocene to Recent age. Aquifers in the study area are unconfined and semi confined to confined types. Based on the static water level, Jagatpur, Sukranagar and Gunjanagar are deep tube well zone and Shivanagar, Parbatipur, Patihani, Gitanagar are shallow tube well zone. The western half area discharges groundwater to the Narayani River and southern half discharges to the Rapti River rather than getting recharged throughout the year. Average water level fluctuation is 2.34 m with high fluctuation of 4.88 m at Sukranagar and low 0.49 m at Dibyanagar VDC. This fluctuation is directly related to rainfall.     NEPAL: The Human Rights Situation in 2006 Impunity for abuses remains as country undergoes political revolution Introduction 2006 has been a tumultuous year in Nepal. It began with widespread protests in January in the build up to the first anniversary of King Gyanendra's infamous coup and municipal elections. These protests were met with curfews, mass arrests, increased threats to human rights defenders and violent repression. This took place against a background of continuing armed clashes between State security forces and Maoists insurgents and widespread human rights abuses being perpetrated by both sides. The Maoists also launched lengthy and crippling blockades of the capital, Kathmandu, and other major cities. On March 19, 2006, representatives of the seven allied opposition political parties and the Maoists announced an agreement to launch another uprising on April 6 against the King. They issued a public Memorandum of Understanding detailing their common stance, which paved the way for future developments. The Maoists also decided to lift the indefinite blockades that had been in place since March 14. On April 3, the Maoists announced a unilateral ceasefire. On April 6, the uprising led by the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) began and was initially planned to include a four-day general strike and civil disobedience movement, as well as a large public rally in the Kathmandu on April 8. The next days and weeks saw an unprecedented popular uprising including hundreds of thousands of protestors from all walks of life in the capital and elsewhere. This was met by repression during which hundreds were arrested or injured and 20 persons were killed.

The entire assessment team for their high level of commitment and cooperation in all stages of the training and investigation process. 3 SAPTARI DISTRICT SQUEAC INVESTIGATION Executive Summary Nepal is a land locked country with approximately 30 million inhabitants and 75 districts. Saptari District is located in the eastern part of Nepal with total population of 639,284 with 85,876 being children under 5 years. There are 13 OTP running through government health system with the support of ACF since June/July 2012. The objectives of SQUEAC were to evaluate the CMAM program in Saptari District and build capacity in SQUEAC methodology so that the tool can be adopted and used to improve nutrition programs. Findings from the assessment indicated a period coverage estimate of 40.9% (27.8%- 55.4%).This estimate lies below the Sphere standard of 50% in rural program areas. The table below indicates a summary of the barriers to be overcome and recommendations in order to enhance program coverage in Saptari district.

Background Wetland being the interface between terrestrial and aquatic communities is the most productive ecosystem on the earth. The term “wetland” is composed of two typical words; wet and land, and have contrast meanings. The word wet means something moist, referring the quality of being, or containing water or liquid. The word land means a solid or specific part of the Earth surface, not covered by water. Wetlands occur only where the water table is at or near the surface of the land or where the land is covered by shallow water. Wetlands often have unique soils that differ from adjacent lands, and support vegetation adapted to the wet conditions (hydrophytes) and conversely it is characterized by an absence of flood- intolerant vegetation. B. Ramsar Convention and Ramsar Site Wetlands are multifunctional resources generating considerable social welfare. They provide many important services to human society, but are at the same time ecologically sensitive and adaptive systems. Wetlands are highly productive ecosystems supporting rich biological communities of high economic value and generating a wide range of ecological goods and services as well as income-generating opportunities to the wetland dependent populace. The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, on 2 Feb 1971, is an intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.
