They have a grape-like aroma. The jelly is a lavender shade with an aroma of apple or grape jelly. Also tastes like grape Greetings to all now that spring is finally here. This was the winter that wanted to with apple undertones. keep on giving. We could not make the last meet due to commitments at the Lowes Motor Speedway. This is the big swap meet that we’ve been attending for 2 cups firmly packed kudzu blossoms the last 15 years. We got rained on Thursday and Friday, but Saturday turned out 4 1/2 cups water to be a nice day. -

“Kaiser Flyer # 5” Joseph W. (Jeeps) Frazer Joseph W. Frazer was the automobile “expert” part of the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation. He was respected by the Detroit “in” crowd and was well-known as an outstanding automotive expert and salesman. He was born in Nashville, Tenn in 1892 into a well-to-do family. His brother operated a Packard Agency in Nashville and young Joe would doodle with drawing pictures of cars during his school days. He could have started his working career at various high- salary jobs in an executive position in other industries but chose instead to begin work at Packard as a mechanic’s helper at less than 20 cents per hour. He wanted to be close to his love - Joseph W. Frazer in his Willow Run Office early 1946 automobiles. Although he was very successful in several aspects of the automobile business, including starting the first technical school for automotive mechanics, his heart was always in sales and promotion. He sold Packard motor cars in New York and at his brother’s Nashville dealership and by the end of World War I he was ready to begin his quest for making his mark on the automobile industry. He first took an opportunity at GM’s Chevrolet Division in sales. He was soon promoted into the GM Export Division as Treasurer and helped to organize the General Motors Acceptance Division, one of the first strictly automobile credit agencies established in the country. GM later loaned Joe to Pierce-Arrow to assist them in creating their own credit agency. -

August 2020 The Washington Greater Seattle Chapter SDC Founded in 1969 Volume 50 Number 8 Not much to report this month either. Can- celled seems to be the slogan these days The editor is continuing on his 51 project, but going slow. Got the trunk lid straightened out and painted. I had a lot more small dents and imperfections than I realized. It is on the car but still having a hinge problem. It seems that is common with worn hinges. For now I put it aside to work on another day. Most of my time has been taken up with things around the house. Like fence repair to keep deer and rab- bits out of the garden. We really prefer to eat the vegetables ourselves. And then there was pressure washing and painting decks and patios. Not any of my fun projects. The painting was hired out to Greta, and she did a good job on the deck. 4 Gallons worth. Potomac Chapter The Commander Studebaker Drivers Club Volume 49 Issue 10 October 2017 International Drive Your Studebaker Day POTOMAC CHAPTER – 2017 International Drive Your Studebaker Day On Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. the following Chapter members met at the McDonalds on Edwin Miller Blvd., in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia: Darrell and Ruth Carr, Paul and Karen Johnson, Terry and Shirley McDan- iel, Larry and Pat Merhaut, Bill and Maxine Morgan and their son-in-law, and Murray and Lynn Welsh, to depart on our International Drive Your Studebaker Day event. Traveling approximately 40 miles through Back Creek Valley in Berkeley County, West Virginia, we were fortunate to have enjoyed beautiful weather and minimal traffic, allowing us to have fun driving our Studebakers and viewing the scenery. The seven Studebakers driven by their proud owners were: 1955 Champion, 1963 Avanti, 1963 Lark Regal, 1962 Lark Convertible, 1947 Champion Convertible, and 1950 Champion. Club members, Larry and Darlene Pugh joined us midway through the tour in their 1962 Lark Cruiser. A Rotarian Rotary International President: from Canandaigua, Mr. Pierce is a Paul Harris K. R. Ravindran Fellow who has worked with the Boy Scouts for 35 years. He is a retired social studies teacher from Victor and is currently an adjunct professor at Speakers FLCC where he teaches US History. Today, he Oct 28, 2015 spoke to us about Canandaigua native and Club Assembly and Auction Rotarian John North Willys. John Willys was born in Canandaigua on October Nov 04, 2015 25, 1873. His father was a tile maker and master Phil James bricklayer. Willys attended school on Pleasant College Planning Preparation Street in Canandaigua, achieving an 8th-grade education. In the 1890’s bicycles captured the Nov 11, 2015 attention of Americans. Willys was no exception: Rob Heiler he was caught up in the bicycle craze, so much so VA Support for Veterans that he actually started a company. He sold bicycles from several manufacturers, and Nov 18, 2015 expanded his business into bicycle repairs and the Bailey Cole sale of parts and accessories. In 1893 he was Rotary Youth Ambassador to forced out of the bicycle business by the panic of Brazil 1893. All Rights Reserved Introduction The author, a licensed Professional Engineer, has also been employed in an engineering capacity by all “Big Three” automakers; GM, Ford, & Chrysler. Here he has sought to investigate the series of events that made Detroit, Michigan the automotive capital of the world. Detroit, Michigan is a place, off the beaten path, in an isolated glove-shape piece of land thrust up between two lakes, with sometimes very inclement weather. Ohio and Indiana, who were also active in the creation of the auto industry in the U.S., are in the same general area of the country as Michigan and share the same climate. How did the industry get its start in this three-state area. One would think that other parts of the country would be more conducive to the formation of such an important part of the history of this nation. Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana were not members of the original 13 states and therefore have to be considered less developed territories than the original thirteen states around the turn of the 19th century when the American gasoline powered automobile was invented. Read how the author has searched for the answers to these somewhat perplexing questions surrounding why Detroit became “The Motor City”. -
