ESG and Sustainability Lead, or € Competitive

Acre has been retained by PAI Partners to recruit an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) & Sustainability Manager to be based in the Paris office, or to be based in London with frequent travel to Paris.

PAI Partners is one of the oldest and most experienced firms, making leveraged buyouts to acquire majority stakes in mid to large sized European companies across 5 industry sectors. Currently with €7.1bn in asset under management, their investors are worldwide pension funds, companies, governmental organisations, banks, and high net worth individuals.

As one of the first private equity houses to develop an integrated approach to ESG management, PAI has experimented and applied the entrepreneurial mindset they bring to their portfolio investments. Throughout this journey, they have tried to continuously innovate, all the while keeping their fundamental philosophy front of mind; that understanding and managing ESG issues helps them to better run investments.

Over the last few years, PAI have embedded ESG management into the core of their business and into their investment processes. Carefully tracking material ESG performance indicators has helped to manage their investments more efficiently. Improved ESG management has improved the performance of portfolio companies and has enabled the creation of greater value at exit.

PAI enjoy a leadership position in ESG management within the private equity industry because they believe it provides an additional lever for transformation. PAI also lead on industry initiatives to promote responsible investment.

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to lead PAI into a new phase of ESG integration and innovation. The culture at PAI enables full visibility within the business along with a close relationship with the CEO and leadership team.

Responsibilities

Building on the achievements of the last five years, the role will involve:

 Working closely with deal teams to articulate ESG action plans and lead the ESG practice  Driving ESG strategy at portfolio company level through building relationships with the leadership teams  Being a key point of contact with global investors on ESG topics  Enhancing ESG monitoring and reporting to increase performance  Conducting ESG due diligence analysis prior to investment and ESG post acquisition audits, in partnership with external consultants  ESG content production, delivering presentations and guides, reporting, writing research

papers and briefs to the Executive Committee  Acting as an ambassador for the firm with external stakeholders such as think-tanks, working groups, at conferences, public consultations (AFIC, Invest Europe, UN PRI, etc.)  Embodying PAI’s ESG approach and desire to push responsible investment more widely by raising awareness on ESG topics outside of the business and sector, e.g. giving lectures at universities on ESG  Managing and mentoring a junior ESG Analyst

Requirements  Fluency in both French and English is essential  International ESG/Sustainability experience applied to complex international businesses gained in a consulting firm, private equity or investment business, or even perhaps an in- house role for a large corporate  A commercial and entrepreneurial approach to ESG; a passion for how ESG challenges can create innovation  Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills  Original thinking
