Tenn. Burial: Spring of 1777- 3 months with Nathan Hale's Company Edward was a volunteer for North Carolina in the Revolutionary War. He received a federal pension, # 11041. He began receiving his $40 per year pension on October 18, 1833. He collected a total of $120. After his death his wife filed for a pension. Gernment officials in Washington required proof of her marriage to Edward and refused to grant her a widow's pension even thougn one correspndent informed them that Mrs. Walker was certainly to be believed since she was "one of the most respectable women in the state of Tennessee." At the time of her application, widows of Revolutionary War veterans were only allowed pensions if their marriage had occurred prior to January 1, 1794. Apparently the officials were demanding proof of the date of the marriage, not neccessarily of the marriage itself. Page 2 Family History Report Attempting to prove her marriage date, Jane sent her family Bible to Washington, but the officials noted that all the children's birhtdates were written in the same ink and the same hand. It was then admitted that this was a newer Bible copied from the old one, which had goen to Indiana with one of the daighters. A copy was made of the names and birthdates - this copys is not in the microfilmed pension file. The file does contain a letter from Earl D. Church, Commissioner, to Annie Walker Burns on October 19, 1929. Mr. Church lists the names and birthdates of Edward and Jane's children for Annie, who used ths documentation to join the D.A.R. Edward B. Walker was literate. He was a farmer. Served in the Revolutionary Wa which is documented in his application for a was pension. He was from North Carlina/Virginia/Tennessee and someof his descendents are: Annie Walker Burns, published privately in 1919; Daughters of the American Reolution Library. (Not: It is later proved that Annie Burns’ assumptions about lineage were incorrect ... Edward enlisted and served as a private with North Carolina troops in the Revolutionary War. He entered the Army from Duplin County, North Carolina, but may not be his place of birth. In the spring of 1777, he spent three months in with Captain James Harrison’s Company and Col. Hogan;s Regiment. He also volunteered on short torus against the Tories. He was wounded twice in the head and taken prisoner, but soon made his escape. Edward B. Walker had a brother “Felix.” This was stated in a letter written in 1929 by James A. Walker to his daughter Annie Walker Burns. In his application for a pension, he stated that he had “dropsy” or congestive heart failure. Spouse: Maria Jane House Father: Frederick House (-1838) Marr: 1 May 1790, Sullivan Co.
