Since 1995 on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour, Adriana and Shelda have a 534-110 match mark together, including 18-8 this season. Adriana and Shelda captured the silver medal in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. Adriana and Shelda posted podium finishes at four of the last five FIVB World Championships, including gold medals in 1999 and 2001, silver medal in 2003 and bronze medal in 1997. The Brazilians were fifth at the 2005 worlds in June at Berlin. Adriana and Shelda have won six of the last nine SWATCH-FIVB World Tour season point’s title. The pair had won five-straight season point’s titles (1997-2001) and ranks No. 1 in career FIVB earnings together ($2,033,315). The pair also won the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. Pohl and Rau rank 13th in career SWATCH team earnings ($319,310) and have posted a 129-107 FIVB match mark together. Fifth-place finishers at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Pohl and Rau have won two of the three European Tour events this season with gold medals in Hamburg and Moscow to assume the top spot in the CEV rankings. The Germans are 13-2 on the European Tour this season with $19,250 in winnings. Pohl and Rau also captured on the 2003 European Championships and placed third last year. While Pohl has played with three different partners and starting playing in 1998 on the SWATCH circuit, Pohl has played 56 of her 57 events with Pohl since 2000. Following the Salvador stop, the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour returns to Acapulco October 25-30 as the world’s best men’s and women’s Beach Volleyball players compete on the Playa Tamarindos for the first-time since 1999 when Mexico hosted the inaugural qualifying event for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. While the men’s competition was at the start of a six-week break between events, the women held their 13th SWATCH-FIVB World Tour stop this past week in Indonesia where Brazil’s Renata Ribeiro and Talita Antunes validated their gold medal success in Athens at the start of September with a Bali title Sunday. With their 21-19 and 27-25 Bali championship win over the “legendary” Brazilian tandem of Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede, Renata and Talita are now 2-2 in gold medal matches this season. Their first three title matches were against Brazilian rivals Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca, the top-ranked team on the 2005 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour.
