Maretta Colasante Dom. DOV. Add Iris Bieapitata Colas. Sp. DOV
Flora Mediterranea 6 - 1996 213 Maretta Colasante TaXODomic Dote OD some ltaliaD Bearded Irises: Iris re lieta Colas. Dom. DOV. aDd Iris bieapitata Colas. sp. DOV. Abstract Colasante, M.: Taxonomic note on some Italian Bearded Irises: Iris relicta Colas. nom. nov. and Iris bicapitata Colas. sp. nov. - FI. Medi!. 6: 213-217. 1996 - ISSN 1120-4052. The difficulties in the subdivision of infragenerie taxa in Iris L. have ereatcd great taxonomie prob1ems even at thc level of nOlllenclaturai and taxonolllie synonymies. The eases of I. suaveolens (N. Terrace.) N. Terraee. ex A. Terracc. and /. bif/ora L. sensu Petagna are here ana1yscd. Then, /. relicta Colas. nOlll. nov. and /. bicapitata sp. nov. are proposed. Introduction The genus Iris L. shows notable variation in different classifications of super-specific taxa (Linnaeus 1753, Dykes 1913, Lawrence 1953, Rodionenko 1961, Mathew 1981), so much that some of them have been removed from it and elevated to the rank of new genera in their own right (Rodionenko 1961). At specific and subspecific level, the Italian Bearded Irises (subgenus Iris Section Iris, according to Mathew 1981), present several both systematic and nomenclatural problems. Regarding the nomenclatural level, recent research has shown that the bibliographic data, in reference to some taxa are often not very precise in origin and therefore many entities of uncertain taxonomic status have been commonly listed in Floras, Monographs, and in speci1'ic papers (Petagna 1787, Terracciano N. 1890, 1899, Terracciano A. 1894, Beguinot 1897, Ciferri & Giacomini 1950, Ricci 1958, Werckmeister 1967, Colasante 1976-77, Colasante 1989, Colasante & al. 1989, Bianco 1991, etc.). -

Investigation on the Seeds of Iris Spuria L. Subsp
Turkish J. Pharm. Sci. 2 (3), 125-136, 2005 INVESTIGATION ON THE SEEDS OF IRIS SPURIA L. SUBSP. MUSULMANICA (FOMIN) TAKHT. (IRIDACEAE). Ayşegül GÜVENÇ1*, Semra KURUCU2, Mehmet KOYUNCU1, Okan ARIHAN3, Ceyda Sibel ERDURAK1 1 Ankara University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Botany, 06100 Tandoğan Ankara, TURKEY 2 Ankara University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacognosy, 06100 Tandoğan Ankara, TURKEY 3 Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Arts and Sicience, Department of Biology, Van, TURKEY Abstract 40 species and 49 taxa of the genus Iris are growing naturally in Turkey (1-3). I. spuria L. subsp. musulmanica (Fomin) Takht., is one of the the 10 species of Limniris section and grows wildly in Eastern Anatolia. Plant material was collected from Van-Erciş road. Besides the morphological and anatomical investigation; oil content and methyl esters of fatty acids of the seed oils were examined in this study for the first time. Fatty Acid methyl esters were prepared according to the method of Metcalfe et al. (13) from the oil obtained by the Soxhelet apparatus with n-hexane. Analysis of the methyl esters have been carried out with GC-MS. Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Stearic Acid, Oleic and Arachidic Acid were determined as the main fatty acids in the oil. Seeds were rich in Linoleic (40 %) and Oleic Acid (30 %). Key words: Iris spuria subsp. musulmanica, seed, morphology, anatomy, seed oil, fatty acid. Iris spuria L. subsp. musulmanica (Fomin) Takht. We have never had so many problems in fitting the range of plants we have “on our books” into the available space! We always try and keep our lists “democratic” and balanced although at times our prejudices show and one or two groups rise to the top. This year we are offering an unprecedented range of calochortus in a multiplicity of sizes, colours and flower shapes from the charming fairy lanterns of C. albidus through to the spectacular, later-flowering mariposas with upward-facing bowl-shaped flowers in a rich tapestry of shades from canary-yellow through to lilac, lavender and purple. Counterpoised to these flashy dandies we are offering an assortment of choice muscari whose quiet charm, softer colours and Tulipa vvedenskyi Tecophilaea cyanocrocus Violacea persistent flowering make them no less effective in the winter and spring garden. Standouts among this group are the deliciously scented duo, M. muscarimi and M. macrocarpum and the striking and little known tassel-hyacith, M. weissii. While it has its devotees, many gardeners are unaware of the qualities of the large and diverse tribe of “onions”, known as alliums. -

Flora of Turkey reports about 43 local taxons of which 16 are endemic. Iris suaveolens Boiss. et Reuter is an endemic species with high seed dormancy and has high tolerance to cold and drought. This study focused on seed dormancy break of I. suaveolens under in vitro conditions. In the first experiment, the seeds were given stratification treatment on MS medium containing different concentrations of BAP with or without NAA. The 2nd experiment reports effects of alternative combinations of cold (at 4°C, 24 h dark) – warm (16 h light photoperiod) conditions on medium containing different concentrations of plant growth regulators on agar solidified MS medium. Both experiments showed about 8.33% seed germination against 64.5% seed viability as confirmed by tetrazolium test. -
