February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. Kevin Beggs Biography Kevin Beggs is Chairman of the Lionsgate Television Group, overseeing development and production of all scripted and non-scripted programming for broadcast, cable, and digital platforms worldwide. He has spearheaded the strategic expansion of the company’s television production activities, and with Lionsgate’s acquisition of TV Guide Network and its partnership in the premium entertainment channel EPIX, he has become one of the key executives managing Lionsgate’s creative interests in both ventures. In addition, I work with senior honors students on projects related to early childhood development (e.g., the impact of observation coaching on childrenʼs graphic representations). -

Many lovers, to be quite convinced that they were not enamoured of wooden dolls, would request their mistresses to sing and dance a little out of time, to embroider and knit, and play with their lapdogs, while listening to reading, etc., and, above all, not merely to listen, but also sometimes to talk, in such a manner as presupposed actual thought and feeling. (Hoffmann 1844) 1 Introduction It's the summer of 2005 and I'm teaching a group of linguists in a small Edinburgh classroom. The lesson consists of watching intently the conversational skills of a life-size virtual human projected on the screen at the front of the room. Most of the participants come from formal linguistics; they are used to describing human language in terms of logical formulae, and usually see language as an expression of a person's intentions to communicate and from there issued directly out of that one person's mouth. I, on the other hand, come from a tradition that sees language as a genre of social practice, or interpersonal action, situated in the space between two or several people, emergent and multiply-determined by social, personal, historical, and moment- to-moment linguistic contexts, and I am as likely to see language expressed by a person's hands and eyes as mouth and pen. -

As research and teaching in computing grew at a tremendous pace at Carnegie Mellon, the university formed the School Grading Practices of Computer Science (SCS) at the end of 1988. Carnegie Mellon was one of the first universities to elevate Computer Science into its own Grades given to record academic performance in SCS are academic college at the same level as the Mellon College of Science and detailed under Grading Practices at Undergraduate Academic the College of Engineering. Today, SCS consists of seven departments Regulations (http://coursecatalog.web.cmu.edu/servicesandoptions/ and institutes, including the Computer Science Department that started it undergraduateacademicregulations/). all, along with the Human-Computer Interaction Institute, the Institute for Software Research, the Computational Biology Department, the Language Dean's List WITH HIGH HONORS Technologies Institute, the Machine Learning Department, and the Robotics SCS recognizes each semester those undergraduates who have earned Institute. Together, these units make SCS a world leader in research and outstanding academic records by naming them to the Dean's List with education. A few years ago, SCS launched two new undergraduate majors High Honors.
