Skripsi: English Education Program of Faculty Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. Medan. 2020 The research with the types and function of taboo words in movie Bad Boys 2. The objectives of the research was to analyze the type and function of taboo words in movie Bad Boys 2. The data were analyzed by identifying types and function taboo words in movie Bad Boys 2 taken from the script of dialogues Bad Boys 2. This study used descriptive qualitative method. All taboo words consisted of ephitet, obscenity, vulgarity and profanity appeared in the movie. The four kinds of taboo words applied in movie Bad Boys 2 were the total words taboo in the movie were 32, ephitets were 7 (22%), propanity were 12 (37%), vulgarity were 5 (16%), and obscenity were 8 times (25%). The most dominant kinds of taboo words used in movie Bad Boys 2 were propanity with 12 (37%). There were four functions of taboo words applied in movie Bad Boys 2. The total function of taboo words were 32, to show contempt was 17 (53%), to draw attention to oneself was 8 appeared (25%), to be provocative was 5 appeared (16%) and to muck authority with 2 appeared (6%). -

Signed:_________________________________________________________ Date:______5th June 2018 ________________________________________ Dave Hook BA PGCert FHEA Edinburgh i Abstract The published works that form the basis of this PhD are a selection of hip-hop songs written over a period of six years between 2010 and 2015. The lyrics for these pieces are all written by the author and performed with hip-hop group Stanley Odd. The songs have been recorded and commercially released by a number of independent record labels (Circular Records, Handsome Tramp Records and A Modern Way Recordings) with worldwide digital distribution licensed to Fine Tunes, and physical sales through Proper Music Distribution. Considering the poetics of Scottish hip-hop, the accompanying critical reflection is an autoethnographic study, focused on rap lyricism, identity and performance. The significance of the writing lies in how the pieces collectively explore notions of identity, ‘outsiderdom’, politics and society in a Scottish context. Further to this, the pieces are noteworthy in their interpretation of US hip-hop frameworks and structures, adapted and reworked through Scottish culture, dialect and perspective. -

“UNTIL THAT SONG IS BORN”: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AMONG COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITERS IN NASHVILLE By Stuart Chapman Hill A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Music Education—Doctor of Philosophy 2016 ABSTRACT “UNTIL THAT SONG IS BORN”: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AMONG COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITERS IN NASHVILLE By Stuart Chapman Hill With the intent of informing the practice of music educators who teach songwriting in K– 12 and college/university classrooms, the purpose of this research is to examine how professional songwriters in Nashville, Tennessee—one of songwriting’s professional “hubs”—teach and learn from one another in the process of engaging in collaborative songwriting. This study viewed songwriting as a form of “situated learning” (Lave & Wenger, 1991) and “situated practice” (Folkestad, 2012) whose investigation requires consideration of the professional culture that surrounds creative activity in a specific context (i.e., Nashville). The following research questions guided this study: (1) How do collaborative songwriters describe the process of being inducted to, and learning within, the practice of professional songwriting in Nashville, (2) What teaching and learning behaviors can be identified in the collaborative songwriting processes of Nashville songwriters, and (3) Who are the important actors in the process of learning to be a collaborative songwriter in Nashville, and what roles do they play (e.g., gatekeeper, mentor, role model)? This study combined elements of case study and ethnography. Data sources included observation of co-writing sessions, interviews with songwriters, and participation in and observation of open mic and writers’ nights. -

ON DECK BILL MCCOY, pensive, 40, checks his pocket watch, then spits tobacco juice as he peers into the darkness. In the distance, WE SEE flickering lights, then HEAR the rumble of motorboats approaching, twenty in all. Their engines idle as the first pulls up and moors alongside. BILL MCCOY (calling down) Sittin' goddarnn duck out here. DANNY MURDOCH, tough, 30s, looks up from the motorboat, where he's accompanied by a YOUNG HOOD, 18. MURDOCH So move it then, c'mon. ON DECK McCoy yankS a canvas tarp off a mountainous stack of netted cargo -- hundreds of crates marked 'Canadian Club Whiskey·. With workmanlike precision, he and .. three CREWMAN hoist the first load of two dozen crates up and over the side, lowering it down on a pulley. As the net reaches the motorboat: MURDOCH (CONT'D) (to the Young Hood) Liquid gold, boyo. They finish setting the load in place, then Murdoch guns the motorboat and heads off. Another boat putters in to take his slot as the next cargo net is lowered. TRACK WITH MURDOCH'S MOTORBOAT as it heads inland through the darkness over the water. Slowly, a KINGDOM OF LIGHTS appears on the horizon, with grand hotels, massive neon signs, carnival rides and giant lighted piers lining its shore. As we draw closer, WE HEAR faint music which grows louder and LOUDER -- circus calliope mixed with raucous Dixieland jazz. -

Some artists may glorify that, but other artists either decry it or offer it as a tragic reality. In hip-hop trends build off of music and music builds off of trends in a cyclical manner. -

Womack was a 1973 graduate of WSSU and a native of Winston-Salem, NC USA. She was a double music and education major and a member of the University Choir, under the direction of Permilla F. Dunston and Robert L. Morris. She became a classically trained Mezzo Soprano and certified Music Educator. Maestra Womack retired as a music teacher from the Washington, DC public schools a few years prior to her untimely death from complications of multiple sclerosis in 2014. Indeed, music was the string she used to thread her life’s purpose. Once fully endowed, this scholarship fund will provide tuition assistance, materials, supplies, and pre-professional development opportunities for incoming and existing music majors in choir and band, emphasizing music education, at WSSU and eventually beyond.
