Amanam* April 2017 1 Introduction The world’s natural gas demand is projected to grow by 50% [1] by 2040, with much of that driven by developing regions like non-OECD Asia and Africa [2]. Africa’s natural gas demand, in particular, is anticipated to grow by more than a factor of two [3]. Be- cause natural gas is relatively cheap and abundant as a result of advances in technology, it plays a large role in shaping how countries plan to meet their rising energy needs. East Africa is a region that has benefited greatly from improvements in exploration and drilling techniques [4]. The large discoveries of natural gas in offshore Mozambique and Tanzania will contribute to meeting the rapidly growing worldwide energy demand while also serving as an effective energy solution in a region whose per capita power consump- tion is less than that needed to continuously power a 50-watt lightbulb [5]. Both countries stand to benefit and can become regional energy hubs1 if the gas and money generated from fields is properly allocated and invested. Since 2000, two out of every three dollars put into the Sub-Saharan Africa energy sector have been committed to the development of resources for export [5]. -

3. Energy reserves, pipeline routes and the legal regime in the Caspian Sea John Roberts I. The energy reserves and production potential of the Caspian The issue of Caspian energy development has been dominated by four factors. The first is uncertain oil prices. These pose a challenge both to oilfield devel- opers and to the promoters of pipelines. The boom prices of 2000, coupled with supply shortages within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), have made development of the resources of the Caspian area very attractive. By contrast, when oil prices hovered around the $10 per barrel level in late 1998 and early 1999, the price downturn threatened not only the viability of some of the more grandiose pipeline projects to carry Caspian oil to the outside world, but also the economics of basic oilfield exploration in the region. While there will be some fly-by-night operators who endeavour to secure swift returns in an era of high prices, the major energy developers, as well as the majority of smaller investors, will continue to predicate total production costs (including carriage to market) not exceeding $10–12 a barrel. The second is the geology and geography of the area. The importance of its geology was highlighted when two of the first four international consortia formed to look for oil in blocks off Azerbaijan where no wells had previously been drilled pulled out in the wake of poor results.1 The geography of the area involves the complex problem of export pipeline development and the chicken- and-egg question whether lack of pipelines is holding back oil and gas pro- duction or vice versa. -

KashaganandTengizarethetwolargestfieldsinKazakhstan—theiroilreservesalonerival theUnitedStates22Billionbarrelsofoil,yettheyhavehardlybeguntoproduce.Tengizin 10yearsofproductionhasproducedlessthan10%ofit’srecoverablereserves.Andwhile Kashaganwasonlyjustdiscovered,thereareothersimilarstructuresintheKashaganlicense areathatareyetundrilled.Overall,thedevelopmentcostswilllikelycosttensofbillionsof dollars but revenues to the Contractor group (the oil companies) and the Kazakhstan Governmentcouldexceed onetrilliondollars . It has become one of the most important developments in pelagic fishing that significantly contributed to increased tuna production and expansion of purse seine and other fishing gears. The introduction of the payao in tuna fishing in 1975 triggered the rapid development of the tuna and small pelagic fishery. With limited management schemes and strategies, however, unstable tuna and tuna-like species production was experienced in the 1980s and 1990s. In this paper, the evolution and development of the payao with emphasis on the technological aspect are reviewed. The present practices and techniques of payao in various parts of the country, including its structure, ownership, distribution, and fishing operations are discussed. Monitoring results of purse seine/ringnet operations including handline using payao in Celebes Sea and Western Luzon are presented to compare fishing styles and techniques, payao designs and species caught. The fishing gears in various regions of the country for harvesting payao are enumerated and discussed. The inshore and offshore payaos in terms of sea depth, location, designs, fishing methods and catch composi- tion are also compared. Fishing companies and fisherfolk associations involved in payao operation are presented to determine extent of uti- lization and involvement in the municipal and commercial sectors of the fishing industry. -

International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) ISSN (Online): 2319-7064 Index Copernicus Value (2015): 78.96 | Impact Factor (2015): 6.391 Types of Seismic Energy Sources for Petroleum Exploration in Desert, Dry-Land, Swamp and Marine Environments in Nigeria and Other Sub- Saharan Africa Madu Anthony Joseph Chinenyeze Department of Geology, College of Physical And Applied Sciences, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria Abstract: The various seismic energy sources used for petroleum exploration in Nigeria (Niger Delta, Benue Trough, Chad Basin) and sub-Saharan Africa (Niger Republic, Sudan, Ethiopia inclusive) have been undergoing improvement over the years. Explosive source usually Dynamite, Airgun, Thumper/Weight Drop, and Vibrators are remarkable seismic energy sources today with frequencies for primary seismic production, bandwidth 10Hz – 75Hz. These sources contribute to higher S/N ratio and greater bandwidth. The spectral analysis of shot records from the afore-mentioned energy sources confirm their corresponding suitability, effectiveness, and adequacy for wave propagation into the ground, until it encountered an impedance in the subsurface. The latter condition results in reflections and refractions which are picked by the receivers or sensors (geophones or hydrophones). The spectral analyses from these selected sources reveal comparable range of signal frequencies. The Thumpers or vibrator shots at any given shot point location SP, is repeated severally for the purpose of enhancement and then summed or stacked. This is also called vibrator sweep, as it vibrates repeatedly according to specification of program issue. In the repetition of frequency sweep, amplitude increases are optimized to a specific level within the same duration.
