St. John the Evangelist Upper Room Pentecost Novena St. John the Evangelist Upper Room Pentecost Novena Nights 1 – 8 Night 9 Friday, May 22 to Saturday, May 30 Friday, May 29 Extended Pentecost Vigil 8:00 – 9:00 pm Mass 7:00 pm Our Plan Each night of our Novena we’ll place ourselves in the Upper Room with Mary and Apostles. We’ll spend time in prayer and worship and then listen to a short, encouraging real-life testimony from a parishioner about one of nine ways the Holy Spirit works in our life. After that we’ll have quiet time before Jesus in the Eucharist, to ask him and the Father to pour out the Holy Spirit upon us. We’ll end the evening praying the Chaplet of the Holy Spirit together as we intercede for the Church and the world, and for the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise that we would be baptized in the Holy Spirit. What Does The Holy Spirit Want To Do In Us? The Holy Spirit creates a desire and longing for prayer. The Holy Spirit brings us real joy in a world of passing pleasures. The Holy Spirit creates a hunger for reading Scripture. The Holy Spirit stirs up a genuine sorrow for sin and desire for new life in Christ. The Holy Spirit gives us boldness and courage to live out the faith in daily life. The Holy Spirit gives us supernatural peace. The Holy Spirit brings us into a personal relationship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives us a sense of mission and purpose in everyday life. The Holy Spirit teaches us the truth (about God, ourselves, the world, etc.). 8:00pm Eucharistic Adoration and Worship Spirit Fall You breathe life You restore You will make all things new Awaken my soul Until You return I know that I've been made for more All creation cries out for You You speak truth You renew There is power in Your presence When I’m in Your presence Hope and healing in Your presence You show me the glory of You There is freedom in Your presence Spirit fall Chorus CCLI Song # 7022450 Spirit fall Spirit fall Chris Lawson Jones | Nick Herbert | Susie Woodbridge © 2014 Thankyou Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing) Fall on us for we are Yours For use solely with the SongSelect® Terms of Use. Invocation to Mary: - O most pure Virgin Mary, by your Immaculate Conception you were made a chosen tabernacle of Divinity by the Holy Spirit. Pray for us. May the Divine Paraclete come soon to renew the face of the earth. Hail Mary, full of grace... - O most pure Virgin Mary, by the Mystery of the Incarnation you became true Mother of God by the Holy Spirit. Pray for us. May the Divine Paraclete come soon to renew the face of the earth. Hail Mary, full of grace... - O most pure Virgin Mary, persevering in prayer with the Apostles in the Upper Room, you were abundantly inflamed by the Holy Spirit. Pray for us. May the Divine Paraclete come soon to renew the face of the earth. Hail Mary, full of grace... Let us pray: Send Your Spirit, Lord, and transform us interiorly with your gifts. Create in us a new heart that we may please you and be conformed to your will. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Prayer for Baptism in the Holy Spirit Lord Jesus, You promised: “John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.” We kneel before you and we ask you to fulfill this promise for us now: baptize us in the Holy Spirit! We join the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Apostles, in the Upper Room, praying for an outpouring of your Holy Spirit. Send Him upon us now and clothe us with power from on high. Come, Holy Spirit! Come, by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your well-beloved Spouse! Most Holy Spirit, receive the consecration that I make of my entire being. From this moment on, come into every area of my life and into each of my actions. You are my Light, my Guide, my Strength, and the sole desire of my heart. I abandon myself without reserve to your Divine action, and I desire to be ever docile to your inspirations. O Holy Spirit, transform me, more and more, into the image of Christ Jesus, for the glory of God the Father and the salvation of the world. Amen. .

May/June 2017 Hungering and Thirsting for God by Dr. Tom Curran Blessed Elena Guerra “Missionary of the Holy Spirit” by Christof Hemberger The Duquesne Weekend by Patti Gallagher Mansfield A Note From Mother Juana Teresa Chung, DLJC Superior General Dear Friends, Jesus loves you! It is a great joy to continue to celebrate the Jubilee of Catholic Charismatic Renewal! One of the things that I have been meditating upon is, the double portion of the Spirit that Elisha asked Elijah in 2 Kings 2:9. As I read these words, I was inspired to ask the Lord for more of the Holy Spirit, for an increase of the Sanctifying gifts and charisms for the service of the Church. Let me share with you some of the things that I have been doing to be better disposed to receive more of His Holy Spirit. First, for the increase of the Sanctifying gifts, I have been meditating upon and have been more aware of God’s grace in my life in day-to-day situations. In addition, I have decided to increase my visits to the Blessed Sacrament because He is the source of these gifts. God has given us these beautiful gifts so that we may be more like Him. What a joy and consolation is to know that we can rely on His mighty and powerful gifts to grow in His likeness. Secondly, for the increase of the charism for the service of the Church, I have been studying, asking questions about the gifts from those people who manifest the charisms, and then praying for these gifts.

I Return Postage Guaranteed I Volume 1, No. 2 Price $5 a year ... 15 cents a copy March 27, 1959 itdeet. cut Diocese to Observe April As Vocation Prayer Month To the Priests, Religious arid Faitllfal of the Diocese: Ths month of April is to be observed as Vocation Month in the Diocese. During these four weeks, we will concentrate, first of all, on fervent prayers for a great increase in the numbers of priests and sisters; and then on frequent, simple instructions, so that each may understand the meaning and dignity of a vocation and be aware of his responsibility in encour- aging young people to dedicate themselves to the service of God. If all of our people come to an understanding of the critical shortage of priests, I am confident they will be impressed with the obligation of cooperating in every way possible in this most noble work of pro- viding the Church in the Diocese of Miami with priestly laborers for Christ. The full program of activity during Vocation Month will be curried weekly in THE VOICE. The prayer for Vocations is to be said after every Mass on weekdays and Sundays. I earnestly commend to ever;- family the most praiseworthy practice of pray- ing fas vocations immediately after the evening meal arid begging God to bless them and their relatives and neighbors with the privilege of having a son a priest, a daughter a nun.

  • May 9, 2021 Sixth Sunday of Easter MASS INTENTIONS AND
May 9, 2021 Sixth Sunday of Easter A New Pentecost From 1895 to 1903 Pope Leo XIII received 12 confidential letters from a nun named Sister Elena Guerra. Elena, who had founded a religious community called the Oblates of the Holy Spirit, appealed to the Pope to lead the Church back to the Upper Room in order to bring about a renewed life in the Spirit. Elena believed that the experience of the MASS INTENTIONS AND READINGS apostles in the Upper Room at Pentecost wasn’t simply an event of the Monday, May 10 past but an experience that is perpetually available to every Christian of St Damien de Veuster, Priest every age. Inspired by Sister Elena ’ s letters, Pope Leo issued a document Acts 16:11-15; Jn 15:26-16:4a in 1895 in which he asked the faithful to pray a solemn novena to the Holy Spirit every year between the feasts of the Ascension and 8:15 am Gary Pierron (Pierron) Pentecost. As commendable as this was, Elena kept writing and Tuesday, May 11 encouraged the Pope to teach more on the Holy Spirit. Thus, in 1897 the Acts 16:22-34; Jn 16:5-11 Pope promulgated an encyclical titledDivinum Illud Munus (On the Holy 12:00 pm Charles Parmenter (Eardly) Spirit). Yet, Elena still wasn ’ t satisfied. Determined, Elena kept writing Wednesday, May 12 and urged the Pope to pray the Veni Creator Spiritus (Come, Creator Sts Nereus and Achilleus, Martyrs Spirit) on behalf of the entire Church. • April 20, 2020 – Sharon Holland
Reflection April 20, 2020 Sharon Holland, IHM Today, we embark on another journey. Most recently, we journeyed through six weeks of Lent to arrive at the celebration of the Resurrection. For a week, we focused on Jesus’ wonderful resurrection appearances in the Gospels. Now our eyes are set on Pentecost, May 31. Our face masks need not impede our vision on the journey, but they are a sign that this year is different. The readings of the liturgy have taken on a new configuration. The Gospel texts today and in subsequent days are taken from John, recounting events from Jesus’ earthly life. It seems a disjuncture from the days of Easter appearances. Here John engages us in the enigmatic dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus. Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born again from above … born anew of the Spirit. He is mystified by this, as well he might be. We can think of baptism and confirmation, but Nicodemus had no such references. This account from John 3 comes long before his reports of Easter appearances and the sending of the Spirit. The first readings of the liturgy in these days continue from the Acts of the Apostles. These readings from Acts lead us on the journey of the fledgling Church guided by the power of the Spirit. While liturgically, we await Pentecost, still weeks away, in these accounts, the Spirit is already at work in the Community. In today’s text, after he and John have been released by the authorities, Peter is recounting their experience and praying. The author of Acts then tells us “… the place where they were gathered shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.” We need not limit the Spirit’s appearance to a single event.
