  • Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators Vs. Anaheim Ducks
Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators vs. Anaheim Ducks Predators Quotes Head Coach Peter Laviolette On the intensity between Nashville and Anaheim… There’s an intensity. There’s a physicality that goes with it. They’re a competitive team and they play hard even with some big pieces out. They played a hard-fought game tonight, probably harder than we were thinking it might be in the beginning so you have to give them credit. I think our guys, after the first period, got a little more competitive, even toward the end of the first a little bit. There’s not a lot of room out there as there typically isn’t. You have to fight for space and fight in the battles and that’s just the way these games go. On having a versatile player like Jarnkrok… It’s important. Calle has probably played the power play his entire life. He has played it here for us. He’s not on one of the units right now if everyone is healthy but he’s a skilled player that thinks the game. I don’t even think he needs a lot of meetings. He’s not in on the meetings and he doesn’t get any reps in practice on the power play. He’s just smart. He’s talented and can jump in to that situation. He has been there before in the past and he’s done a good job. To jump in like that and not miss a beat is pretty good. Forward Filip Forsberg On the outcome of the game… It was huge.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips December 4, 2018 Fiala leads Predators to 2-1 win over Sabres By Jim Diamond Associated Press December 4, 2018 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville Predators credited their defensive effort after their latest win. Kevin Fiala scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period and the Predators beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 Monday night. Ryan Ellis also scored and Pekka Rinne stopped 21 shots to help Nashville win its second straight. “I thought we were really good defensively tonight,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “They’ve got a lot of tools over there, a lot of people that can hurt you, certainly that top line and they’ve got some guys from the back end that can really move the puck and add to the rush.” Rinne stopped eight shots in the first, five in the second and eight in the third. Five of the eight Rinne turned away in the third came in the final 1:17 with Hutton lifted for an extra attacker — including a stop on a slap shot by the Sabres’ Jack Eichel with 15.4 seconds remaining. “That was one of our better defensive games all year,” Rinne said. “Guys did an extremely good job just staying with it. ... They have a lot of team speed and they’re top couple of lines are pretty dangerous.” Sam Reinhart had a goal for Buffalo, which is 0-2-1 since a 10-game winning streak — with each loss coming by one goal. Carter Hutton had 23 saves. “It seems like we’ve been having trouble for a little bit here,” Reinhart said.

In this paper, we attempt to improve upon the classic formulation of save percentage in the NHL by controlling the context of the shots and use alternative measures other than save percentage. In particular, we find save percentage to be both a weakly repeatable skill and predictor of future performance, and we seek other goalie performance calculations that are more robust.

The NHL Stats and Information team reminisces on memorable moments and achievements of the past decade. “The Goalies” recaps some of the top goaltending performances of the 2010s. Tim Thomas Thomas won his second Vezina Trophy in 2011 after also winning both the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy that year. He posted a .940 save percentage in the 2011 Playoffs, tied for the fourth- highest on record for a single postseason (min. 20 GP). Henrik Lundqvist Lundqvist claimed the Vezina Trophy in 2011-12 after posting a career-high 39 wins. He posted the third-most wins this decade (299) to climb from 89th place (159) to fifth place (458) on the NHL’s all- time wins list during the 2010s. Sergei Bobrovsky Bobrovsky is the only goaltender to win the Vezina Trophy twice during the 2010s, claiming his first in 2012-13 on the strength of a career-high .932 save percentage and again in 2016-17 following a career-best 41 wins. Martin Brodeur Brodeur posted both the final win and final shutout of his NHL career on Dec. 29, 2014 while playing with the Blues - his only season not in a Devils uniform. He played one more game after that before retiring with 691 wins and 125 shutouts during the regular season – both NHL records. Braden Holtby Holtby won the Vezina Trophy in 2015-16 after matching Martin Brodeur’s single-season NHL record with 48 wins. He had three seasons of 40+ wins this decade, tied with Pekka Rinne for the most in the 2010s.
