    (2020) 32 SAcLJ 458 THE COURTS AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS This article examines how the Malaysian courts have dealt with substantive human rights issues in the cases that have come before them, focusing particularly on the last ten years. It highlights cases where the courts demonstrated greater willingness to review executive action and parliamentary legislation and test them against constitutional provisions that protect fundamental liberties such as the right to life, and freedom of expression, association and assembly. It also looks at cases which have taken a less flexible approach on these issues. The article also touches on the issues of access to justice, locus standi and justiciability of cases involving human rights issues before the Malaysian courts.     We won’t bow to pressure from Selangor DAP rep, says PAS leader Malaysian Insider Nov 3, 2015 Selangor PAS said it would not bow to the pressure of a Selangor DAP representative who called for PAS executive councillors to be removed from the state administration line-up. Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said the party would maintain its status quo in the administration. Iskandar, who is also Cempaka assemblyman, said DAP should stop the political intimidation against PAS and remember that the opposition's victory in Selangor in the last general election was due to the agreement and cooperation between PAS, DAP and PKR. "PAS is still in the state government and our task is to carry out our responsibilities as part of the administration which is focusing on the budget," he told Bernama. Iskandar was commenting on a report which quoted DAP Kajang Baru chairman Chiong Yoke Kong proposing to DAP's top leadership that more pressure be put on Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to quickly sack PAS representatives in the state administration. Chiong, who reportedly made the remarks during the Selangor DAP annual convention in Petaling Jaya, was also quoted as saying that if Azmin failed to remove the PAS representatives, DAP would "walk out" of the state government. Azmin was previously reported as saying that PKR had decided to continue its cooperation with all opposition parties, including PAS in Selangor, and that it did not require the establishment of Pakatan Harapan in the state as was the case in Penang because the political situation in the two states were different.

    19 July 2021 Media Statement SELVAX INDUSTRY PROGRAMME FOR GREATER KLANG VALLEY VACCINATION PLAN, “OPERATION SURGE CAPACITY” The Selangor Vaccine Program (SelVAX) Industry has entered the next phase with delivery of 250,000 doses Covid-19 vaccine in line with the Greater Klang Valley Vaccination Plan "Operation Surge Capacity" which was announced by YAB Dato 'Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor and YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Coordinating Minister of Covid-19 Vaccine Access Committee (JKJAV). The supply of this vaccine stock is expected to be received in stages between 23 July 2021 and 30 July 2021. The current vaccine stock for first and second dose of the initial phase amounts to approximately 40,000 doses. The implementation of the SelVAX Industry Programme will be accelerated and implemented more consistently if the subsequent delivery of vaccine stock is according to schedule.     For immediate release MEDIA STATEMENT IDEAS seeks answers over repeated changes to ECRL project and calls for transparency Kuala Lumpur, 07 April 2021 - The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) expresses concerns around the frequency of changes in Malaysia’s infrastructure development plans. Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong announced earlier this week that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will once again undergo changes to its track alignment, with Section C of the track now to run along the northern side of the Klang Valley from Mentakab to Port Klang in Selangor, instead of the southern alignment as concluded in the previous changes made in 2019 by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. Commenting on the recent announcement, IDEAS CEO, Tricia Yeoh highlighted several concerns over how political changes impact upon the nation’s infrastructure developments. “This will be the second time this mega infrastructure project has undergone major changes to its scope. The unstable political landscape over the last few years has coincided with significant changes in the project’s scope each time there is a new government in office. We have also seen changes to the Melaka Gateway and KL-Singapore HSR projects since the new government came to power last year.” The realignment will reportedly result in a higher cost of RM50 billion compared to the previous RM44 billion, even though the Ministry of Transport last year had indicated that the realignment would have the potential to lower project costs. The first round of negotiations under the PH government had resulted in a reduction of RM21.5 billion and in significant realignments including the now contested Section C portion.

    UTILISATION OF DAP LEADERS‘ BLOGS AND DAP‘S OFFICIAL WEBSITE IN CREATING POLITICAL AWARENESS YAP SING YEONG MASTER OF COMMUNICATION FACULTY OF CREATIVE INDUSTRIES UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN APRIL 2013 ABSTRACT UTILISATION OF DAP LEADERS’ BLOGS AND DAP’S OFFICIAL WEBSITE IN CREATING POLITICAL AWARENESS Yap Sing Yeong Political parties have constantly found strategies and tactics to affect voters and create political awareness. This is evident during election campaigns. The study questions and identifies the different strategies that the DAP‘s (Democratic Action Party) leaders used in their blogs during the 2008 election campaign period, and investigates the different strategies that the DAP used in its party‘s website during the 2008 election campaign period. Data was collected using content analysis, thematic content analysis, and in-depth interviews research methods. Findings revealed through the analysis of the DAP leaders‘ blogs, DAP‘s website, and interviews with DAP leaders that DAP leaders did not fully utilise their blogs. In other words, new media was not an effective means for DAP in creating political awareness during the last general election. Findings also revealed that the traditional ways of campaigning, for instances, door-to-door visits and public talk, were still the main choices in the rural area where the Internet access was still not available. It was also revealed that lesser number of politicians blogged after the 2008 general election.
