In a series of sudden, jarring flashbacks, we are take n through Eugene Bullard's extraordinary life. In 1912, Eugene escapes from the Jim Crow South, after witnessing the near lynching of his father. His father was from Haiti, and Eugene speaks fluent French. He longs to go to France, where he believes he will be treated with more respect. He stows away on a German freighter, where he learns German. He then lands in Britain, where he becomes a champion boxer,d an finally reaches France just as World War I is starting. Eugene immediately volunteers, becoming first an infantryman in the French Foreign Legion, and then a fighter pilot in the French air force. SYNOPSIS (Continued) After the War, Eugene becomes a jazz musician and nightclub manager, meeting people like Louis Armstrong, Pablo Picasso, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. In a page taken from the movie Casablanca, Eugene, who now owns a nightclub, spies on visiting Nazis for French Intelligence during the years leading up to World War II. During World War II, Eugene once again fights for France, but when the Nazis invade, Eugene is forced to flee back to America. Eugene is famous in France, but he is unknown in the U.S. There he is just another Black man in America, facing ignorance and violence. Eugene endures the every day racism of 20th century America. He is beaten, more than once, but never gives in to fear or hatred. We return to the “present” to witness the awarding of the Legion of Honour medal, and the pronouncement by President De Gaulle, “All of our country is in your debt.” The Team STEVE WELLER is a writer, actor, and comedian. He was born in Vancouver, Canada, but grew up in Liverpool, England, where he learned the value of having an outsider's point of view. Returning to Vancouver, Steve studied acting in the Studio 58 program at Langara College, and at the National Theatre School Of Canada. He has appeared in some fifty plays and in many films and television shows. Steve has always loved storytelling, and has a fascination with language, which fuels his love of Shakespeare. He has written a SWORD & SORCERY novella; a Children's book; three STEVE WELLER stage plays; and has co-written three others. He is currently Writer | Actor | Comedian developing the series BLACK KNIGHTS OF THE FBI for television, and recently completed writing the animated feature, ESCAPE TO FREEDOM: A GHOST STORY. The Team WILL WILLIAMS is a Vancouver based entrepreneur and producer. Mr. Williams worked in the Sales and Insurance industries before rediscovering his love of acting. Having worked extensively in film, television, and commercials, he realized that there were stories - black stories - that needed to be told. He formed BLACKFOLK PRODUCTIONS so he could tell those stories. Being born in Detroit, growing up in Toronto, and working across the U.S. and Canada, his African-Canadian perspective is unique. WILL WILLIAMS Mr. Williams' specialty is finding and motivating talented Executive Producer | Story people to achieve amazing things. He is currently Developer | Founder, Blackfolk developing the series BLACK KNIGHTS OF THE FBI for Productions television, and the animated feature, ESCAPE TO FREEDOM: A GHOST STORY. The Team MARITAMA is a Canadian (Vancouver, BC) actress, producer, and teacher, who was born and raised into a family of performers. She has been involved in the entertainment industry for many years as a dancer, singer, model, and actor in various television, web, and film productions. She launched her company, PINK LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, in 2019. She has experience in production, and co-production of films, televi sion, shorts, web series, teaser trailers, and has an aptitude for assembling film crews, talent, and for pitching. She is also a credited acting teacher, curriculum builder, and coach. MARITAMA CARLSON Her recent work includes the short film SO CALLED Production Manager FRIENDS (credited writing and acting); a teaser trailer for THE VINEYARD; and ANOTHER PLACE. She co-wrote, and produced her own comedic web series THE IZ AND MT SHOW. She h as recently associate produced two psychological feature thrillers called, AMBER'S DESCENT, and CRIMSON POINT. The Team C.J. has worked on over 400+ films, TV series, music videos, and commercials since 1980. Starting first as an actor and stuntman, then working his way up through various crew positions including Transport Coordinator, Production Manager, and eventually Line Producer. He produced and directed a television pilot for VOD Networks. Budgeting, scheduling, and film industry troubleshooting are his specialty. C. J. also own and operates INFINITY GRIP AND C.J. Hopefully, this cache of information from a Canadian perspective assists with understanding the enigmatic Legion of Frontiersmen. Please credit the original sources of information noted. Four decades ago I began to hear stories about the Legion of Frontiersmen from First and Second World War veterans. These accounts seemed questionable so I began a long process of investigating these claims and looking for informative sources. – To my surprise much of the verbal lore was confirmed with news quotations, documents, photos or addressed in rediscovered Frontiersmen publications. Concurrent to my efforts, the members of the History and Archives Section, Legion of Frontiersmen [Countess Mountbatten’s Own] willingly discussed their respective efforts to rediscover and preserve a very unique piece of Imperial history.     WW II D-Day Sapper Veteran Cpl Stanley Clark Fields Awarded the French Legion of Honour The Canadian Military Engineers are pleased to advise that the Government of France has awarded Cpl Stanley Fields the Rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. Mr Fields is a WW II Royal Canadian Engineer veteran who landed in France on D-Day and was a participant in the Battle of the Liberation of France. Some background on this honour is found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_of_Honour Stanley Fields, age 95, grew up in Ottawa and was a page on Parliament Hill as a teenager. He worked as a plumber after high school and joined the Canadian Army in September 1939, one week after war was declared. Eventually Stan found his way to 5th Field Company Royal Canadian Engineers in February 1942. On D-Day, the 5th Field Company was one of four Sapper companies involved in the assault phase at Juno Beach. Engineer tanks and specialized obstacle clearing parties landed at H-Hour followed by the infantry assault companies at H-Hour plus 5 minutes. 5th Field Company was split into sections across each of the assault beaches and Stanley’s sections landed on “Nan Red” beach. The tide was higher than expected when the lead landing craft touched down and thus some obstacles were too difficult to clear. The three craft with 5th Field Company’s sections immediate came under heavy small arms fire as the ramps came down. The Royal Marine tanks and armoured bulldozers went ahead and the sections scrambled to shore but then had to take cover behind a sea wall for the next two hours.

    THE 7th ROYAL FUSILIERS IN THE CRIMEAN WAR With THE MEDAL ROLL (As far as could be confirmed) 1854 – 1856 Compiled By J P Kelleher 2013 1854: Nearly forty years had passed since the Royal Fusiliers saw active service, when Russia, seeking in her ambition to overwhelm Turkey, was arrested in her aggression by the united action of England and France. The two Powers declared war against the Czar on the 27th.March 1854, and the British force was sent to south-eastern Europe, under command of Lord Raglan- who as Lord Fitzroy Somerset had earned distinction under Wellington. The Royal Fusiliers, were amongst the first regiments ordered to be brought up to war strength. They were quartered at Manchester, and the North of England was their recruiting ground. During the early spring, the Regiment was raised to full establishment, and drilled into one of the smartest, and most solid battalions in the service. On Tuesday, the 4th.April 1854, the Royal Fusiliers: Headquarters and 8 companies; consisting of 3 Field officers, 8 Captains, 14 Lieutenants, 5 Staff, 46 Sergeants, 15 Drummers, 850 Rank and File, and 25 women – under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Walter Lacy Yea, entrained at Manchester for Southampton, where they embarked the same evening on board the transport „Orinoco‟. After touching at Gibralter and Malta, the transport disembarked her troops at Scutari, on the 22nd. Here the regiment was brigaded with the 23rd and 33rd.     1 CROSSING THE POND: JAZZ, RACE, AND GENDER IN INTERWAR PARIS A dissertation presented by Rachel Anne Gillett to The Department of History In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of History Northeastern University Boston, Massachusetts May, 2010 2 CROSSING THE POND: JAZZ, RACE, AND GENDER IN INTERWAR PARIS by Rachel Anne Gillett Between 1920 and 1939 the nightclubs of Montmartre became a venue where different nationalities came into contact, danced, talked, and took advantage of the freedom to cross the color line that Paris and the ―color-blind‖ French audience seemed to offer. The fascination for black performers known as the tumulte noir provided the occasion for hundreds of jazz and blues performers to migrate to Paris in these years. French society was inundated with the sounds of jazz and also with images and stereotypes of jazz performers that often contained primitivist, exotic and sexualized associations. The popularity of jazz and its characterization as ―black‖ music raised the question of how the French state dealt with racial difference. It caused consternation among „non- jazz‟ black men and women throughout the Francophone Atlantic many of whom were engaged in constructing an intellectual pan-Africanist discourse with a view to achieving full citizenship and respect for French colonial subjects. This manuscript examines the tension between French ideals of equality, and „color-blindness,‟ and the actual experiences of black men and women in Paris between the wars. Although officially operating within the framework of a color-blind Republican model, France has faced acute dilemmas about how to deal with racial and ethnic differences that continue to spark debate and controversy.
