Metta Dael: Director of International Admission, Northfield Mount Hermon, Mount Hermon, MA

Metta Dael joined Northfield Mount Hermon in 2007. As the Director of International Admission, Metta has spent the last ten years increasing NMH’s diverse international student population which currently represents 57 countries.

Metta previously worked in the New York City public school system where she built Arts-In-Education programs for a number of non-profit organizations. During her career as an educator, Metta worked in curriculum design and educational research at venues such as Nickelodeon © and the former New World Theater at UMass Amherst. Metta earned a Masters in Multicultural Education from NYU and is a graduate of the Executive Education Program at Columbia University.

Born in the Philippines, Metta’s family made their first international move as expats when she was two years old. By the time Metta entered high school at NMH, she had moved nine times, solidifying her identity as a Third Culture Kid. In 2011 Metta started Global PREP, a summer institute whose mission is to support and prepare international students for their transition to schools in the . The program works specifically to develop cultural and academic competencies in students who are going to schools abroad.

1 When she’s not traveling, Metta serves as an advisor and works with the NMH affinity groups such as Circle of Sisters and the Asian American Students Association. Metta participates in the NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC) each year and has presented workshops and seminars at the TABS-NAIS Global Symposium and The Enrollment Management Association’s conferences.

Dean Fusto: Head of School and President, Brandon Hall School, Atlanta, GA

Dean J. Fusto is the President and Head of School at Brandon Hall School, a global boarding and day school serving students in grades 6-12. His career spans two decades as a teacher and educational leader in K-20 public, independent, boarding, and international schools. education. He founded the teachlearnlead.org global edu-library in 2013 as a tribute to his heroes and heroines: teachers. Over time, the edu-library has grown in reach and is positioned as a destination for teachers and school leaders around the globe who are seeking professional development and access to the latest educational research.

Dean is a past recipient of a National Endowment of the Humanities Fellowship and an EE Ford Fellowship from the National Association of Independent Schools. He has published several books and holds an M.A.T. from the SIT Graduate Institute and an M.A. from Columbia University, Teachers College and a certificate in Proactive Leadership Training from Cornell University.

He has founded and designed numerous experiential, service learning trips for hundreds of students and teachers. 2 Andrew Garlinski: Director of International Student Recruitment, Director of ESL, Shattuck-St. Mary's School, Faribault, MN

Andrew Garlinski is the Director of International Recruitment and ESL at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School (SSM) in Faribault, Minnesota. Andrew moved to the United States at age five and grew up on the SSM campus. He attended SSM for seven years, graduating in 1998. Since 2006, Andrew has worked at his alma mater as a History, English, and ESL teacher, a and coach, a dorm parent, an advisor, a class dean, and now as the Director of the ESL program and a member of the Admissions team in charge of international recruitment. Known on campus as Mr. G, Andrew is the first line of support for all international students and works diligently with wonderful students and fantastic teachers to create a diverse and welcoming community for all.

Andrew holds a B.A. in English and History from Trinity University and an M.A. in ESL from Hamline University.

Andrew’s wife, Kelly, serves as the History Department Chair at SSM, and they live on campus with their two young daughters, Ruby and Alice.

Tara Inman: Dean of Students for Global Education, Darlington School, Rome, GA

3 Tara Inman is the Dean of Students for Global Education and a DSO at Darlington School, a PreK-12 day and boarding school in Rome, . Tara joined Darlington's admissions and student life teams in 2002 as a head of house and served as Director of ESL and Coordinator of Spiritual life from 2009-2016. In her current role, she supports the day to day needs of international students and families, serves as a college advisor specializing in advising international students and international student athletes, is a member of the admission committee, and partners with the advancement office to steward relationships with current international families and international alumni. She is also responsible for an optional two-week early orientation program for new international students.

Prior to her work at Darlington, Tara worked as an ESL teacher for the American Language Academy at Lake Forest Academy and taught English for 2 years in Pohang, Korea.

She and her husband, Brian, a history teacher at Darlington, have 4 children and love living on campus at a boarding school, where it’s just another normal day at home to have students from 5 different countries cooking a meal in their kitchen.

Amanda Miles: Associate Director of Admission, International Admission Coordinator, PDSO, Dana Hall School, Wellesley, MA

Amanda Miles is in her 13th year at Dana Hall School, an all-girls boarding and day college preparatory school in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In addition to her role as Associate Director of Admission/International Admission Coordinator, Amanda is also the PDSO for Dana Hall.

Amanda’s interest in international education began as an undergraduate student during a semester studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Later, after graduating from Trinity College, Amanda worked at the Leysin American School in Switzerland for two years. These experiences living abroad piqued Amanda’s interests in working with an international population of students and provided Amanda with a broad understanding of global citizenship. Amanda has been working at schools in the Boston area for 15 years and has traveled extensively in Asia for student recruitment. Amanda enjoys working with international families during the application process to help them understand the value of studying abroad, while also helping them feel comfortable about sending their child thousands of miles of home for school.

Amanda has a B.A. in Psychology from Trinity College and an M.Ed. from Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She lives in the Boston area with her husband and two young sons.

Ann Vogel: International Student Coordinator, Global Summit Coordinator, Charles Wright Academy, Tacoma, WA

Ann Vogel’s career in international education spans several decades and continents and includes roles as a teacher and administrator at public and independent schools and in higher education. She also has held marketing and communications positions in the insurance and financial industries in the Seattle area.

Vogel’s interest in international education began at a young age when her parents, through a State Department program, hosted students and adults from numerous countries, especially from the Soviet bloc. She was an exchange student in Iran, living in a homestay and later a dormitory. After college, she joined the Peace Corps where she was sent first to Morocco and then to the Sultanate of Oman to teach ESL. She later taught ESL and English literature in public schools in Hawaii and Portland, OR, and at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Moving into independent schools, Vogel served on the Board of Trustees for Silverwood School in Poulsbo, WA, including as Board President, and then as its self-study coordinator and Assistant Head of School. Her career at Charles Wright Academy began as a volunteer with the school’s Global Summit, a program she now leads. Celebrating its 10th year, the Summit brings students and teachers from schools throughout the world to Tacoma for a 10-day human rights and social justice conference. Vogel worked as the school’s temporary Assistant Director of Admissions and then took on the role of International Student Coordinator where her responsibilities include partnering in international admissions, and heading up the orientation, homestays, relationships with international parents, and student support. She has given presentations at NWAIS and WFIS conferences and recently coordinated a regional conference, “Building Best Practices for International Student Programs.” This summer, she led a student delegation to Lithuania for an international Democracy Camp sponsored by the US Embassy.
