Download Brochure HIDAYATULLAH NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY LEGAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY Named after one of the great legal luminaries of India Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah, Hidayatullah National Law University was established in May 2003 by the Government of Chhattisgarh with a view to impart and advance legal education by engaging in teaching and research, and to develop among students a sense of responsibility to serve the society in the field of law by taking to advocacy and reforms in law and justice administration system. HNLU has completed the journey of more than one and half a decade and in such a short span of time, it has carved out a niche in the realm of legal education across India and the legacy is soaring towards newer heights day by day. HNLU is the first National Level Institute established in the new State of Chhattisgarh and the sixth Law University in the country. Hon’ble Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh, Shri P. R. Ramachandra Menon is the Chancellor of the University. Prof. (Dr.) V. C. Vivekanandan, former MHRD Chair Professor of IP Law at NALSAR University and also former Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi School of Law, IIT Kharagpur and School of Law, Bennett University is the Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava is the In Charge Registrar of the University. ABOUT THE LEGAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE Legal Aid – plays an important role in the legal profession and mandate of having national law schools was to have a testing ground for bold experiments in legal education. Hence, Hidayatullah National Law University, through its Legal and Social Services Committee strives to ensure justice by furthering the right to be heard and enlightening the students about the practicality of the functions of the complex government machinery. The passion and intellect of the Legal and Social Services Committee (LSSC) is to instil in individuals behaviour of attributing importance to the way we are governed. The aim of the committee has always been to ensure representation to the mass life and build a strong bond between those who are governed and those who govern them thus we focus on capacity building, empowerment of masses and creating awareness. Jaybhaye Member Member The committee is further supported by fifteen elected class representatives from each section of five undergraduate batches and one class representative from the postgraduate batch. Two among them are elected as the student convenor and student vice-convenor of the committee and are responsible for implementing the decisions taken by the committee. Membership to LSSC is open to all the students and they can join the committee as co-opts and volunteers to assist the committee in performance of its duties.     CHIEF JUSTICE OF INDIA CHIEF JUSTICE OF INDIA The Chief Justice of India (CJI) is the head of the judiciary of India and the Supreme Court of India. The CJI also heads their administrative functions. In accordance with Article 145 of the Constitution of India and the Supreme Court Rules of Procedure of 1966, the Chief Justice allocates all work to the other judges who are bound to refer the matter back to him or her (for re-allocation) in any case where they require it to be looked into by a larger bench of more judges. The present CJI is Justice Dipak Misra and is the 45th CJI since January 1950, the year the Constitution came into effect and the Supreme Court came into being.
