IP Features in RackAmp v2.0: IP for Setup – Use a computer or smart phone for remote setup when your subwoofer amps are located in different rooms than your subwoofers. IP for two Advanced Features 1. 6 Band Parametric EQ with 5 Hz resolution (-12dB to + 3dB; Q of .3 to 10). 2. Two Customizable Presets (default Volume & 1 band Parametric EQ). Note: IP allows Setup, Reset, or review by browser only; it is NOT for use with an external control system (Crestron, Control4, etc). IP Connections: • Via LAN: Connect RackAmp Ethernet Interface to a LAN with a standard Ethernet cable. If connecting to a wireless LAN, you can also use a Wi-Fi enabled smart phone, tablet, or laptop. The only issue when using a smart phone or tablet is that sliders do not work with the touch screen (the screen moves, not the slider). Stepping out and passing through the pillared porticoes was a Who's Who of Swiss society-the head of state, national sports icons, former ministers and army generals-all of whom had come to celebrate the sixty-fifth birthday of Werner Spross, the owner of a huge horticultural business empire. As one of Zurich's wealthiest and best-connected men, it was perhaps fitting that 650 of his "close friends" had been invited to attend the event, a lavish banquet followed by a performance of Romeo and Juliet. Defiantly greeting the guests were 200 demonstrators standing in the square in front of the opera house. Mostly young, wearing scruffy clothes and sporting punky haircuts, they whistled and booed, angry that the opera house had been sold out, allowing itself for the first time to be taken over by a rich patron. They were also chanting slogans about the inequity of Swiss society and the wealth of Spross's guests. The glittering horde did its very best to ignore the disturbance. The protest had the added significance of being held on the tenth anniversary of the first spark of the city's most explosive youth revolt of recent years, The Movement. -

The Open Internet What it is, and how to avoid mistaking it for something else. SEPTEMBER 2014 Introduction1 It is not by chance that we have enjoyed the extraordinary success of the Internet as a global engine of economic, political, cultural, and social progress. Fundamental principles embedded in the architecture of the Internet as a collaboration among designers, builders, providers, and users led directly to this success. Sustaining it will require a commitment by today’s policy makers to understand and respect those principles—not because they are honored by time or tradition, but because they confer tangible present and future benefits. The term "Open Internet" has been used so often and so freely that everyone knows what it means—or thinks they know what it means, and assumes that everyone else means the same thing when they use it. After all, the core enabling principle of the Internet as a system that includes users, applications, and infrastructure is openness, which infuses every aspect of the modern Internet—technical, economic, political, and social. But depending on the context in which it is used, the word open conveys different meanings, particularly when subtle (or not–so–subtle) variations are introduced by translation from one language to another; and because “openness” has become an important issue in many Internet political debates, defining what it means has become part of those debates. As is usually the case when people understand the terms and concepts of a debate differently, it will be difficult for us to resolve important issues of Internet policy until we reconcile our different understandings of open and openness in principle and in practice. -

Odlyzko AT&T Labs - Research [email protected], [email protected] Preliminary version, July 6, 2001 Abstract The Internet is the main cause of the recent explosion of activity in optical fiber telecommunica- tions. The high growth rates observed on the Internet, and the popular perception that growth rates were even higher, led to an upsurge in research, development, and investment in telecommunications. The telecom crash of 2000 occurred when investors realized that transmission capacity in place and under construction greatly exceeded actual traffic demand. This chapter discusses the growth of the Internet and compares it with that of other communication services. Internet traffic is growing, approximately doubling each year. There are reasonable arguments that it will continue to grow at this rate for the rest of this decade. If this happens, then in a few years, we may have a rough balance between supply and demand. Introduction Optical fiber communications was initially developed for the voice phone system. The feverish level of activity that we have experienced since the late 1990s, though, was caused primarily by the rapidly rising demand for Internet connectivity. The Internet has been growing at unprecedented rates. Moreover, because it is versatile and penetrates deeply into the economy, it is affecting all of society, and therefore has attracted inordinate amounts of public attention. The aim of this chapter is to summarize the current state of knowledge about the growth rates of the Internet, with special attention paid to the implications for fiber optic transmission. -

THE INTERNET AND ISI: FOUR DECADES OF INNOVATION ROD BECKSTROM President and Chief Executive Officer Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 40th Anniversary of USC Information Sciences Institute 26 April 2012 As prepared for delivery It’s an honor to be here today to mark the 40th anniversary of the University of Southern California’s Information Sciences Institute. Thank you to Herb Schorr for inviting me to speak with you today and participate in the day’s events. When he steps down he will leave some very large shoes to fill. When I received Herb’s invitation, I seized upon it as an opportunity to come before you to express the sincere gratitude that my colleagues and I feel for the work and support of ISI. When I think of ICANN and its development, and all we have accomplished, I never forget that we stand upon the shoulders of giants, many of whom contributed to my remarks today. In fact, I owe a special debt of gratitude to Bob Kahn, who has been a mentor to me. I am honored that he took the time to walk through a number of details in the history I have been asked to relate. The organizers asked me to speak about the history of ISI and ICANN. They also invited me to talk a bit about the future of the Internet. In my role as President and CEO of ICANN, I have many speaking engagements that are forward looking. They are opportunities to talk about ICANN’s work and how it will usher in the next phase in the history of the global, unified Internet that many of you have helped to create. -
