TEMPLE BETH TORAH MADELINE ANREDER EMMA BERNSTEIN SETH BREINBERG EMMA BEZACK JACOB ERDHEIM AVA KAPLAN HENRY KRAVITZ COLE MANUS RYAN SCHIFF BEN SCHOPS MICHAEL SHWOM MATTHEW SPITZER 1 Beth Silverman has been a member of Temple Beth Torah for 26 years. She was on the Nursery School Committee, chair of the Religious School Education Committee and has been a long time member of the Ritual committee. Whatever she gets involved in at TBT grows and thrives under her leadership. She helps make life better for all of us at TBTand makes new friends every step of the way. Beth is married to Jeff who is an attorney and financial planner. He has been a TBT Board member and Brotherhood president. They have two daughters, Lauren and Lea. Lauren is a Jewish Professional working with 20 and 30 somethings in Chicago and recently received her Masters in Jewish Professional Studies from Spertus Institute. Lea just graduated Boston College Law School and will be staying in Boston to practice law. Lauren and Lea are both graduates of TBT’s Nursery School and Religious School and became B’not Mitzvah, Confirmands and Graduates of Hebrew High. They both served on the JTV teen board. Lea’s babynaming took place on my first Shabbat at Temple Beth Torah. Beth sells and creates promotional products and works through The Vernon Company. She puts so much care into each item and makes sure her customers are thrilled. Beth grew up in a practicing Jewish family and is a multi-generation Reform Jew. She brings a deep appreciation of Reform Judaism. I remember studying with her in Bagels, Blocks and Beyond and then in Mishpacha University. She has served on numerous search committees for directors of the Nursery and Religious schools. The word Emunah means faith. The Emunah service is an opportunity for one congregant, each year, to share her or his faith journey with the congregation. Beth joins an auspicious list in this tradition which Rabbi Gellman began 39 years ago, to remind us that “all Jews stood at Sinai” and that we can learn from each and every person. Services have been delightful. Weddings joyous and funerals feel like they are doing what they are supposed to, helping the mourners through a difficult time with hugs and supportive presence. Our David Joshua Berg Early Learning Center (that is the new name) had the most delightful graduation for our pre-K families. Jenny Caporrino was one of the ELC parents who spoke. Her words sum up what it means to be a part of Temple Beth Torah. I just always knew in my gut, that that was a gift of invaluable consistency that we wanted to give to our kids. We wanted their temple to be a home for them, outside of the one they live in. And they’ve gotten it. They know the building, the sounds, the smells, the rooms, the faces … they know they will always have a place here that they belong. Both as Jews as well as people. The teachers and staff: These women partnered with us moms and dads in every way, shape and form. They don’t focus just on letters or numbers or colors … they are equally as concerned about our children being the best all around PEOPLE that they can be. Just like us parents. They listen to our worries, they take them on as their own. They often help talk us moms down off whatever ledge we’ve climbed up onto on any given day to offer insight, perspective and most importantly – encouragement Thank you Jenny for reminding us how special our ELC is as it enters its 30th year. I’d also like to thank the Board of Trustees for a tremendous year. Vanessa Newman has been an outstanding partner in leading the congregation these past two years. Thank you. We welcome Brian Goldstein to the Presidency and are looking forward to an exciting couple of years. It was a joy to honor Kevin and Marnie Gershowitz at our Golf Outing. They worked incredibly hard with our team lead by Susan and Sam Rudman and Naomi Mandell and our amazing office staff, Kathy, Robin and Beth, to raise funds to make this an amazing event and to help the Temple continue to thrive. Thank you to everyone who made this event so successful. Have a safe summer and come visit in person or on zoom! Contact: [email protected] 4 July 2021 I am filled with gratitude for serving as president for this loving, caring and welcoming congregation. The past two years have been quite a ride - from revamping the traditional dues structure to living through a global pandemic and everything in between. This position and its responsibilities were never boring! Serving as temple President was a humbling experience which sometimes took me out of my comfort zone. But, as a result, I have grown as an individual and learned so much while helping my temple community. Thank you for this truly invaluable experience. In my first Kol Nidre appeal I said, “it takes a village” and at no time in history could this have been more true. I feel extremely fortunate for the camaraderie I shared with each of the clergy, the office staff, the custodians, Jen and all the board members. It was this dynamic that got us through this pandemic together. Reflecting upon this makes me proud. Proud to be a part of such a loving community. Proud of how we all came together to celebrate the good times and to support each other in times of need. Proud of how the Early Learning Center and Religious School “knocked it out of the park” by doing whatever needed to be done to ensure your children received their education safely and effectively. Proud of our incredible clergy for never skipping a beat and working tirelessly to always be there for us in our greatest time of need. I marvel at their strength, endurance and commitment. The Board plays an integral part in our temple’s success. Brian Goldstein is ready to take on his role as incoming president, and I am excited to see all the great things he will do. Congratulations to the new Board of Trustee members; Josh Bernstein, Marnie Gershowitz, Rachel Gritz, Mark Kleinman, Jill Oliver and Marci Pell. Welcome to the team! I wish the retiring Board members well, and I know Lon Fogel, Jackie Fogel and Robin Messinger will continue to remain involved and connected. Thank you to my husband, Ira, and my boys , Alec & Ethan, for supporting me through this entire journey. Their love sustained me. Thank you to this congregation for truly being a part of “Team TBT”! I look forward to seeing all of you in person soon. Enjoy your summer! L’Shalom, Vanessa Newman Immediate Past President 5 The Ritual Committee at Temple Beth Torah has been a vibrant, active committee for decades. There is a dedicated core group of about a dozen “regulars”, bringing a variety of experience and knowledge. We are always happy to welcome new members or guests. Along with our clergy, we discuss and plan all items relating to services, holidays and rituals, like life cycle events. We meet monthly for about an hour and have maintained our meeting schedule, by zoom, throughout the COVID pandemic.
