Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, suffi- cient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal anoth- er full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy. Who is Father Ubald? Father Ubald has been a Roman Catholic priest for 25 years in the Cyangugu Diocese of southeastern Rwanda. He is a survivor of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, having lost over 80 members of his family and more than 45,000 of his parishioners. Father Ubald first came to the United States in 2009 at the invitation of Immaculée Ilibagiza, fellow genocide survivor and author of “Left to Tell.” Since that time, he has brought the power of forgiveness and the love of Mass with the living Christ into the lives of countless individuals Healing Prayers who have been healed physically, emotionally, and spiritually. nd Thursday, February 22 6:30 p.m. Rosary 7:00 p.m. Mass All are welcome to join Reverend Ubald Rugirangoga as he celebrates a special Mass with Healing Prayers at Corpus Christi. The evening will begin with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and a procession through the Sanctuary. Father Ed will preach at all of the weekend Masses, and then he’ll give three Mission Talks: Sunday, March 11: “Open Our Eyes, Lord” This talk is a call to open our eyes, ears and hearts to the presence of God which is so very alive in our world… We are called to be a welcoming and vibrant community of believers and we can only be that if we are open to seeing and experiencing the world the way that God does. Monday, March 12: “Blessed are the Merciful” When Pope Francis declared the Jubilee Year of Mercy in 2015-16 that was a great invitation for us as a Church to remember that “Mercy is the Face of God” and that we are all invited to enter more deeply into God’s mercy every day of our lives. Are we a “Beatitudes” kind of people? Let’s hope so! Tuesday, March 13 (during Mass): “All you need is LOVE” Love is the bottom line for us as Christians, as we all know, and the Bible has a lot to say about it. Starting with Deuteronomy and the “Shema” Commandment in the Old Testament, we’ll then turn to look at the very different Commandments of Love in the Gospels. All are welcome. Please invite your family, friends and neighbors! Franciscan Father Ed Shea is the third of eight children from St. Giles Par- ish in Oak Park. A 1974 graduate of Fenwick High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Fr. Shea joined the Franciscans in 1980 and was ordained a priest in 1987. Fr. Ed has spent most of his priesthood in parish work, including four years as the priest-presider for the St. Giles Family Mass Community in Oak Park, IL and five years as the pas- tor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Joliet, IL. He was also pastor of St. Joseph Parish, a predominantly Hispanic community in Chicago’s fa- mous Back of the Yards neighborhood. Fr. Ed has served on his Provincial Council and as Director of Vocations and Formation for the Franciscans of the Sacred Heart Province. Fr. Ed is currently stationed at St. Peter’s Church in downtown Chicago, since 2011. During the past several years he has done a good deal of itinerant preaching, in the Chicago area and be- yond; he has spent some time living and working in Teutopolis, IL, and he even went on a pilgrim- age to Tanzania, Africa! A Franciscan priest who loves to sing and tell stories, more than anything he thrives on celebrating the sacraments of the Church.

Background of the Pioneer and Century Certificate Project Even before the impetus of the Bicentennial year and the appearance of Alex Haley's Roots, more and more people were becoming interested in genealogy. Fifty years ago, the word was apt to mean an exercise aimed at qualifying for membership in an exclusive society. Today, its meaning has broadened to acconnnodate an increased awareness of the value of family and national heritages. Realization has come, too, that in a time of great social change, the knowledge of these--placing the individual, as it were, in a context--can stabilize and illuminate the sense of self.

We reverence the loving and living of valiant women before us who brought forth new generations of sisters compelled by love for the dear neighbor. Bend over us now. Breath in us anew the Spirit of Life, impelling us each fresh dawn to risk the dying that leads to rising, to dare the dreaming that calls forth a future, to BE the love that makes all creation one in you. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus our brother. Amen. -written by Sr. Julie Sheatzley, CSJ & Sr. Janet Franklin, CSJ • 5 In Memoriam January requiescat in pace ◆ January 1 ◆ ◆ January 5 ◆ Sr. Imelda Deegan (1923, Wheeling) Sr. Mary James Smith (1927, Wichita) Sr. M.
