Dakota Community Centre 2016/17 Board of Directors Nominees

Robert Bachart

Robert Bachart has lived in the Dakota catchment since 2001, and his children have participated in many of the club’s sports programs including baseball, soccer, and Dakota hockey camps.

He is a graduate of the Commerce/Administration Program at Red River College, and is presently enrolled at the UBC Sauder School of Business, working towards a professional designation from the Appraisal Institute of . He is currently employed as Director, Real Estate and Commercial Services with the Airports Authority, and has been involved in the commercial real estate industry since 2005.

Robert has volunteered as a baseball coach, and also with the United Way of Winnipeg, which raises funds in support of an extensive network of non‐profit agencies and programs.

Steve Bamburak

Steve Bamburak and his family have lived in the Dakota catchment since 2006 and enjoyed the Dakota facilities for a number of socials and even a pre‐Kindergarten graduation.

He holds an Advanced Graphic Design diploma and a Marketing Management certificate from River Red College, and is a certified member of the Graphic Designers of Canada. He is currently the Associate Creative Director of 6P Marketing.

Steve has volunteered as a student exit portfolio judge through Red River College from 2013‐2015 and, a student portfolio reviewer through the Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) from 2011‐2013. In 2009, Steve was the Committee Chair the GDC Blue Sky Conference. From 2006‐2009 Steve was an assistant coach (football) for three seasons with the Sturgeon Heights Huskies varsity team. Through a previously employer Steve volunteered with the Children’s Hospital Book Market in 2008.

Elliot Cameron

Elliot Cameron and his family are brand new members to the Dakota catchment; however, Elliot’s son has been attending school in the area for the last six years. They are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in Dakota programs and activities.

Elliot has attended the University of and Red River College, and is presently enrolled in the Real Property Administrator (RPA®) professional designation. His work experience has been in business development, sales and finance. He is currently Premises Coordinator for Manitoba Public Insurance, and is responsible for project management, tendering of contracts, and ensuring that MPI buildings offer a comfortable working environment for employees.

He has volunteered as a soccer coach, and hockey team treasurer for the past six years, and as an instructor at the Pan Am Boxing Club for the past five years.

Chris Chapman

Chris recently moved back to Winnipeg with his wife and three children. He’s been employed by the St. Vital School Division/LRSD since 1991, taking leaves of absences while living and being employed in Saskatchewan and England.

Chris has a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and B.Ed from the University of Winnipeg. Chris has worked as an educational assistant, classroom teacher, student services teacher, vice principal and principal. For the past 6 years, he’s been the grade 6‐8 classroom teacher at Lavallee School.

Chris has been involved at Dakota CC, coaching hockey and spearheading the community’s Rookie Rugby program. Chris’ current board roles; Rugby Canada Rookie Rugby Committee; Rugby Manitoba Director Youth Development; Maple Grove Rugby Park V.P Finance. His past Board service includes various other community organizations and sport associations. His numerous coaching experiences include soccer, hockey, ringette, volleyball, track and field, basketball, flag football, football and rugby.

Dionne Deer

Dionne has lived in the Dakota catchment since 2007. She and her family have been enjoying the club’s sports programs and facilities since 2010.

Dionne holds a Master’s in Education from the University of . She is currently the Principal of Glenlawn Collegiate.

Dionne has served as Vice President of Dakota Community Centre since April 2013 and was previously the Special Events Director for Dakota. Dionne is very involved in coaching hockey and has also coached her son in soccer and lacrosse.

Michelle Jansen

Michelle Jansen grew up and lived in the catchment from 1983 – 2008, moving back in 2013. She grew up playing Ringette, mini‐soccer and softball at Dakota. Michelle spent countless days and evenings at the club skating on the outdoor rinks and buying penny candies with friends.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Human Ecology degree from the University of Manitoba. She is currently a Case Coordinator/Coordinatrice des dossiers at Employment and Income Assistance, Province of Manitoba.

Michelle has served as Dakota’s Director of Ringette since April 2014 and sits on the Boni‐Vital Ringette Board. She has coached Ringette for 4 years, the last two at Dakota, instructing for two years and playing for 27 years. Michelle volunteered with 2015 Breakfast with Santa and plans to do so again this year. Dakota represents family, community and will always be a very special place that Michelle wants to share with everyone.

Kristen Perrault

Kristen Perrault has lived in the Dakota catchment since 2014. Her children have been enjoying the mini soccer program and her husband has been involved with coaching their teams.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba, and a CPA, CMA accounting designation (formerly recognized as a CMA accounting designation). She has been employed with Manitoba Hydro since 2001. She became the Management Financial Services Supervisor, supporting the Customer Service & Distribution business unit, in July 2015. Prior to this role, she was the Regulatory Financial Analyst in the in the Corporate Controller division.

Kristen has served as the Treasurer for a fundraising event called Quinn’s Quest from February 2007 to May 2009. She was a Trustee for the Alumni Fund for the University of Manitoba from July 2004 to February 2006.

Terry Sharman

Terry & Kim have lived in the Dakota catchment area since 1981 and their family has been participating in club sports since 1991. Terry's three adult children have played softball, indoor soccer, baseball, soccer, hockey, ringette & basketball under the Dakota banner. Terry has coached softball and hockey, and managed a ringette team.

Terry is semi‐retired, but is also the Learning Facilitator for the National Student Loans Service Centre. Previously, Terry had been a Credit Manager for a national agricultural chemical distribution company.

Terry sat on the Dakota Board on two previous occasions, as Equipment Director, Ringette Co‐Director & VP of Winter Sports. He has been on the Hockey and Ringette Steering Committees. In addition, Terry served 8 years on the Board of The Wildewood Club (President 1991‐92); 3 years with Boni‐Vital Ringette Association (President 2010‐11); and 6 years on the Winnipeg Ringette League Council as Area Rep, Secretary & Scheduler.

Tim Smith

Tim Smith lived in the Dakota catchment area from 1999 until moving out of province after completing university in 2009. He returned to the area in 2015. Tim played minor hockey out of the community centre as a teenager and now plays Dakota Men's League hockey. His son is currently registered in minor hockey at Dakota.

Tim holds Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) and Bachelor of Arts (History) degrees from the University of Manitoba and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. He is currently the Professional Services Manager, Retail Pharmacy with The North West Company. Work responsibilities include operations support, professional and regulatory affairs, and program development.

Tim has volunteered as assistant coach, league convenor and board member with the Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey Association. Serving on the Dakota board would enable him to get involved in his community and contribute meaningfully to the health and well‐being of his neighborhood.

Chantal Sturk‐Nadeau

Chantal Sturk‐Nadeau and her family have lived in the Dakota catchment since 2002, and are active participants at the club. Her children currently play ringette and hockey, and her husband Chris has coached both sports over the years for Dakota, including hockey this past season.

Chantal holds a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and an advanced diploma in International Business. She has also received a Certified Destination Management Executive designation from Purdue University. Chantal is currently employed as Senior Vice President, Tourism Winnipeg, which is a division of Economic Development Winnipeg.

Her recent volunteer experience has included coaching volleyball, and serving on several boards and committees such as CDEM (Economic Development for French Municipalities), Red River Exhibition, Festival du Voyageur, Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Red River College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Advisory Committee (Chair), and Destination Canada’s Business Events Advisory Committee (Chair).

Tom Thiessen

Tom Thiessen has lived in the Dakota catchment since 2006. He and his family have been enjoying the club’s sports programs and facilities since 2009.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba, and a Business Administration diploma from Red River College. He is currently the Executive Director of the Building Owners & Managers Association of Manitoba.

Tom has served as President of Dakota Community Centre since April 2014 and was previously board Treasurer and Baseball Director for Dakota. He is also a member of the club’s Expansion and Policy Committees, and has been coaching baseball for Dakota/Bonivital for the past 6 years. Tom’s other recent volunteer work has been with Baseball Manitoba (board member), Bonivital Minor Baseball Association (board member), Winnipeg South Minor Baseball Association, The Amadeus Steen Foundation, and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
