Natural objects – shells, pinecones, plant materials, etc arranged in an interesting composition OR A SELF PORTRAIT featuring yourself on an interesting background – a map that can showcase your heritage, the place you live now or a place that holds a special meaning to you; sheet music of a favorite song; newspaper with a meaningful article, etc. OR A well developed LANDSCAPE showcasing a particular season and including an interesting foreground, middle ground and background – no sunsets, simple beach scenes

Refer to your text for reference… Pay close attention to your total work: drawing, composition, design elements, technique and color usage if applicable… remember, it is your final exam and will be graded as such. YOU MAY NOT WORK FROM PHOTOS UNLESS THEY ARE YOUR OWN REFERENCE. Draw or paint your subject influenced by the styles and artists in your selected movement. You may focus on one or more artists within that movement. Decide how you will treat color – achromatic or chromatic – perhaps a monochromatic study, or a color triad, perhaps neutral colors with the addition of one color, etc. Minimum size is 11” x 14 “ but keep your work stock size so that matting and framing is easy. THESE DRAWINGS MUST BE FULLY DEVELOPED, COMPLETED WORKS OF ART – not just quick sketches. You must show evidence of mastering the technique you chose. Choose the mediums you are most comfortable with. It can be any drawing/painting medium or a mixed media. Background must also be addressed. Finished work must be framed – you are NOT to spend a fortune on framing! Keep it stock size so you can use cheaper frames from Michaels or AC Moore – even poster frames… there are some selections here to choose from for the show, however you must reserve them ahead of time and return them after the exhibit. You are to complete a TYPED reflection about your work. Tell me what artists you looked at for inspiration within the chosen art period – how their work influenced you, and most importantly, include your general thoughts on your work – what were you trying to portray… a color mood, a realistic interpretation, stepping outside your comfort zone, etc. The topic you select, the art movement and artists you are looking at for inspiration, your choice of media, photo of your set up and a half size sketch of your composition must be submitted on or before April 20th . Failure to submit written plan and sketch will result in a 10 point deduction from your final project grade.

THIS IS YOUR TAKE HOME END OF SEMESTER EXAM! IT SHOULD BE YOUR VERY BEST CREATIVE WORK. This follows the late policy regarding end of semester projects in your contracts: it must be handed in at the beginning of class and will be accepted up to 2 days past the due date - losing 10 points for each day late. In the event you are absent due to illness or arriving late to school (after your scheduled art class) you must email photo of completed project by 8:30 am to [email protected] or late points will be deducted. This project will be factored TWICE for your fourth quarter grade.

Your completed framed project with a typed artist statement will be submitted on May 11th (please photograph your completed work before it is framed – you will submit one photo to me as well.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!!! You are all very talented – you want to showcase that!
