Rogers Sportsnet wanted to deliver the largest, most innovative sports studio in the country and provide fans with a sports entertainment playground that places them in the heart of the action and brings the NHL experience to life. With the bar set high, Rogers Sportsnet reached out to Applied Electronics for forward-thinking, leading-edge production workflow and content display solutions to help bring the ideas and concepts for their new 11,000 square foot studio to reality. No one issue or event grabbed the public’s attention or attracted strong response. That doesn’t mean Canadians did not reach out anyway. This fiscal year the office dealt with 2,618 complaints, communications, inquiries and expressions of concern, including 1,586 about news and information content. It is noteworthy that over 1,000 were outside the Ombudsman’s mandate. In contrast to previous years, no one topic or program attracted more than twenty letters. The one exception to that was as a result of a campaign to have Kevin O’Leary removed from CBC. The petition campaign was launched by Rebel Youth Magazine. -

Ivanov Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Information University of Toronto 2019 Abstract Digital curation scholarship has become interested in how technical and computational processes and systems intersect with human and social factors in digital curation practices across curation domains. This dissertation contributes to this knowledge by examining the digital curation of broadcasting news archives, a considerable but underexplored curation domain. The study is based on participant observation and interview data collected at the news archive of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The data is analyzed using a practice theory approach that combines social, material, and cultural theoretical perspectives. Specifically, the dissertation examines how archivists at the CBC evaluate and enrich information in the context of their daily work, and it describes the institutional, organizational, and technological elements constitutive of this context. The analysis reveals how the CBC’s transformation from analogue to digital infrastructure has redefined the organizational roles and the boundaries -
