Впервые для этих мест указываются виды Pieris rapae (L.), Pontia edusa (F.), Polyommatus amandus (Schn.), P. icarus (Rott.), Limenitis populi (L.), Nymphalis antiopa (L.), N. vau- album (Den. et Schiff.), Vanessa cardui (L.) и Melitaea phoebe (Den. et Schiff.). Отмечено, что в преде- лах слабоизученной низкогорно-среднегорной части региона (степной и лесостепной) в дальнейших исследованиях может быть встречено около 20 новых для этих мест видов. The Altai Mountains Where Four Worlds Meet A Greentours Trip Report 18th July to 2nd August 2002 Led by Paul Cardy and Vladimir Kolbintsev Trip report by Paul Cardy Day 1 Thursday 18th July Journey to Almaty The flights were on time, with a good connection at Frankfurt. Entry formalities at Almaty were rather lengthy, and the arrivals hall was so hot we felt we were experiencing our first sauna. Vladimir met us and we transferred to the hotel. After settling in to our rooms we all met in the café on Floor 3 for beer, vodka and snacks. Day 2 Friday 19th July Cimbulak and Journey to Ust-Kamenogorsk We ate a welcome buffet breakfast before a mini-bus arrived to take us up to Cimbulak for the day. Several Banded Demoiselles were active around the ‘pond’ outside the hotel. Our flight to Ust-Kamenogorsk was not until the evening, so it was good to have the opportunity to visit the mountains above Almaty, the eastern end of the Tien Shan range. Today we were pleased to escape a little from the city heat, and retreat to the mountains. We drove up past the Medeo ice-rink, and the ski-centre. Common Mynahs were noted on the journey. We passed a great variety of flowers including Sedum hybridum and Aconitum leucostomum. Our first stop was to explore some of the flower rich meadows. Nepeta pannonica, Mentha asiatica, Gentiana turkestanorum, and Parnassia palustris were all in flower. Several Apollos drifted over the hillside, and a few Cardinals sped past. Pedicularis dolichorhiza and Dactylorhiza umbrosa were going over but the Delphiniums were in good bloom. -

A checklist of Papilionoidea of the Mongolian Altai is presented. Several new taxa {Neolycaena sapozhnikovi sp. n., Plebejus germani sp. n., P. anikini sp. n., P. idas shadzgat ssp. n., Erebia przhevals- kii sp. n., E. chastilovi nomada ssp. n., Hyponephele lycaon dmithevae ssp. n., and H. lycaon kerzhneri ssp. n.) are described. Zoogeographical demarcation of the Mongolian Altai (within the limits of Mon- golia) is presented. Introduction The Mongolian Altai is a mountain system in Mongolia and China. It stretches ap- proximately 1000 km from the northwest to the southeast and its width varies from 300 km in the northwest to 150 km in the southeast. It reaches altitude of 4362 m (Mt. Munkh-Khajrkhan-Ula) and consists of several parallel ridges, separated by longitu- dinal tectonic valleys. The summits are mostly plateau-like, with cirque and cornice glaciers (the largest one being Potanin Glacier) on their crests. -

Entry formalities at Almaty were made more enjoyable by the fact the immigration booth was packed with eight young ladies who were being trained as immigration officials. Vladimir met us and we transferred to the hotel. After settling in to our rooms we all met in the café on Floor 4 for beer and vodka. Day 2 Friday 20th July Cimbulak and journey to Ust-Kamenogorsk We ate a welcome buffet breakfast before a minibus arrived to take us up to Cimbulak for the day. Our flight to Ust-Kamenogorsk was not until the evening, so it was good to have the opportunity to visit the mountains above Almaty, the eastern end of the Tien Shan range. We drove up past the Medeo ice-rink, and the ski-centre. Common Mynas were noted on the journey. We passed a great variety of flowers including Sedum hybridum and Aconitum leucostonum. Our first stop was to explore some of the flower rich meadows. Nepeta pannonica, Mentha asiatica, Gentiana barbata, and Parnassia palustris were all in flower. An Apollo was nectaring on a lovely Rhodiola semenovii. The Marjoram also proved very attractive to butterflies. Pedicularis dolichorrhiza and Dactylorhiza umbrosa were going over but the Delphiniums were in good bloom. -

A checklist of Papilionoidea of the Saur Mountains is presented with 159 butterfly species (Hesperiidae: 15; PapiHonidae: 7; Pieridae: 17; Nymphalidae: 71; Lycaenidae: 49). The specific status of Erebia sibirica Staudinger, 1881 is confirmed. Araschnia levana (Linnaeus, 1758), Clossiana selenis (Eversmann, 1837), Phengaris alcon (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) and Aricia nicias (Meigen, 1829) are reported for the Saur for the first time. Introduction The Saur is a small mountain range which is a part of the Tarbagatai mountain system; it is situated on the border between Eastern Kazakhstan and China south-eastwards from Zaisan lake and the Black Irtysh River (Figs 1 -6). To the north it is bordered by the Zaisan depression, and the Chilikty depression separates it from the Tarbagatai in the south. -

A checklist of Papilionoidea of the Saur Mountains is presented with 159 butterfly species (Hesperiidae: 15; PapiHonidae: 7; Pieridae: 17; Nymphalidae: 71; Lycaenidae: 49). The specific status of Erebia sibirica Staudinger, 1881 is confirmed. Araschnia levana (Linnaeus, 1758), Clossiana selenis (Eversmann, 1837), Phengaris alcon (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) and Aricia nicias (Meigen, 1829) are reported for the Saur for the first time. Introduction The Saur is a small mountain range which is a part of the Tarbagatai mountain system; it is situated on the border between Eastern Kazakhstan and China south-eastwards from Zaisan lake and the Black Irtysh River (Figs 1 -6). To the north it is bordered by the Zaisan depression, and the Chilikty depression separates it from the Tarbagatai in the south.
