Tickets for the show are $29, $39, $49, $54 & $59. D’Elia is best known for his roles in chart-topping NBC sitcoms such as “Whitney,” “Undateable” and “The Good Doctor.” He’s also no stranger to the podcast world. Between co-hosting “Ten Minute Podcast” (2012-2016) and his latest, “Congratulations with Chris D’Elia,” which has charted in the top 20 comedy podcasts in multiple countries, he has achieved commercial success. D’Elia was raised in Montclair, New Jersey until age 12, when his family relocated to Los Angeles, California. He began acting in high school, and even had some guest starring parts on CBS’s medical drama television series, “Chicago Hope.” After high school, he attended New York University to study acting, but dropped out after his first year because he didn’t enjoy it. During his downtime, he appeared in a movie that went straight to DVD, followed by a few years of writing scripts. In 2006, at the age of 25, he decided to explore stand-up comedy and hasn’t stopped since. In the past 13 years, D’Elia has been featured on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and “Comedy Central Presents,” and Showtime’s “Live Nude Comedy.” He was first introduced to a broader audience as a regular on the TBS series “Glory Daze.” Later, in January 2013, D'Elia released his debut parody rap album as MC “Chank Smith” called “Such Is Life.” On December 6, 2013, his first one-hour stand-up special, “White Male Black Comic,” aired on Comedy Central. The show was directed by his father, Bill D’Elia. In 2016, D'Elia headlined the Leafly 420 Comedy Tour show in Chicago with special guest Ron Funches. 'Undateable' Guys Go on Tour
'Undateable' Guys Go on Tour 02.25.2014 "Undateable" is a new comedy coming to NBC about a group of friends going through a rut. In order to promote these guys and their stories leading up to the show's debut, NBC and Warner Bros. figured they'd first introduce them to everyone in person. So throughout March, four of the stars of the show (who also happen to be standup comedians) will join executive producer Bill Lawrence on a multi-city standup comedy tour, spanning the U.S. Lawrence, who will serve as host, and stars Chris D'Elia, Ron Funches, Brent Morin and Rick Glassman will start in New York on March 2 and head across the country, ending the tour in Los Angeles on March 20 (full schedule below). "Since it's so hard to launch a network comedy in this competitive landscape, we thought we would try a little grassroots marketing," said "Undateable" co-creator and executive producer Adam Sztykiel. "Plus, it will be exciting to see Bill travel around in a van." The series, based on the book "Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating or Having Sex," will premiere later this year on NBC. Stand-Up Comedy and Social Justice: A Discussion of Freedom of Speech and Inclusive Democracy By Samuel Labun A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Philosophy Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario ©2020 Samuel Labun Abstract This thesis explores freedom of speech and its capacity to promote individual agency and well-being, relieve the oppression of excluded social groups, and increase understanding and communication across differences in democratic society. The thesis applies the insights of John Stuart Mill, Amartya Sen, and Iris Marion Young to stand-up comedy. The thesis argues that comedians and audiences have a responsibility not to exclude oppressed social groups from comedy and democratic society in general. Open mics fulfill all Young’s conditions for inclusive communication, and professional comedians like Robin Tyler, Hannah Gadsby, Dave Chappelle, and Ms. Pat use their comedy to increase communication and understanding across group differences. The thesis concludes that comedy can provide an effective, inclusive, and public opportunity for social groups to voice their needs, concerns, and demands for equal concern and respect, and that comedy can edify the public about their democratic society. ii Acknowledgements First of all, I would like to thank my supervisor, Professor Christine Koggel, for her help and guidance in teaching the Research Seminar and in the writing of this thesis.
