Romain Faubert is alone going on 40, has no wife and no children. His profession as a photographer for an online medical dictionary does nothing to alleviate his acute hypochondria, which for too long ago has been the ruling element in his life, reducing him to a bundle of fear and neuroses. The internet elicits compulsive Google searches that start out with little aches and pains and inevitably wind up with results on metastasized cancer. This does little to assuage his phobias about germs and disease. His one and only friend is his general practitioner, Dr. Dimitri Zvenka, who upon first meeting Romain made the fatal error of actually liking him a state of affairs he now bitterly regrets. Romains psychosomatic problems are an endless source of trouble and Dimitri would give anything to get rid of him once and for all, especially now that he has become quite the intrusive patient. Romain often invites himself to sleep over at Dimitri’s house, which is really starting to get on the nerves of the doctor’s wife. However, Dr. Zvenka thinks hes found a remedy, one that will usher Romain Faubert out the door forever help him find the woman of his dreams. He invites him to parties, signs him up for online dating, gets him to work out and even coaches him on his seduction techniques and ways to interact with women. But finding that rare jewel, someone who can tolerate his idiosyncrasies and who, out of love, will help him overcome his hypochondria, turns out to be more of a challenge than it first seemed.

Cut off from the outside world, Paul has grown old without ever having lived. That is, until the day he meets Madame Proust, a neighbor who lives on the fourth floor. This eccentric lady knows how to make a herbal infusion which, when combined with music, can stir the most repressed of memories. Indifferent and seductive, Rome offers itself up to the astonished eyes of tourists; it is summer and the city shines with a beauty that is elusive and definitive. Jep Gambardella is 65 and his character emanates a charm that time has not ravaged. He is a successful journalist who flits between culture and the high life in a Rome that never ceases being a sanctuary of wonder and greatness. Behind the decadence and decay of reality, the city continues to preserve a hidden and sometimes desperate beauty.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the adaptation of a story by Madame de Villeneuve. Published anonymously in 1740 as La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins, it paints a portrait of Belle, a joyful and touching young girl who falls in love with the Beast, a cursed creature in search of love and redemption. In 1760, a condensed children’s version was published. It was from this version that Jean Cocteau and then Walt Disney drew their famous adaptations. Overshadowed, the original version by Madame de Villeneuve has never been adapted for the screen... until now! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the story of a family going through a crisis, having lost all of its possessions when the father was ruined. The encounter - at first terrifying, but then voluptuous - with this mythical Beast provides our characters with an opportunity to get back on their feet. I like to think that this film is a metaphor for the situation that is currently afflicting the world. That is one of the advantages of fairy tales, to present an ensemble of values that endure through the ages. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST speaks, among other things, of the power of dreams and love over materialism and corruption - a theme more topical now than ever. It was time to pay tribute to Madame de Villeneuve’s story: an amazingly contemporary tale, in which the poem of love is also a message of hope. Christophe Gans

The film celebrates Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his election as President of South Africa. It explores the Mandela unknown to most of the world - the lover of fast cars and women, the boxing enthusiast and playboy, the skilful lawyer and the gun-toting freedom fighter - an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon.

Jappeloup is a true story about tenacity, disobedience, disillusion, friendship, family bonds, courage and... ultimately victory. Jappeloup was a horse that was deemed too small to become a champion. Pierre Durand was a show jumper who lost faith in his own destiny. Together, the rider and the horse, rode triumphantly into show jumping history, their relationship being often as chaotic as a show jumping course itself - with elements of betrayal, loyalty and love. The duo suffered a crushing defeat at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics when, in mid-competition, Jappeloup stalled and threw his rider over one of the obstacles. The story could very well have ended there with public humiliation in a global arena. Pierre Durand very nearly withdrew from show jumping altogether and would have if it wasn’t for the support of his wife and father, and Jappeloup’s groom Raphaëlle’s unwavering faith in this small but exceptional horse. Pierre Durand eventually started afresh, reconciled with Jappeloup and placed himself firmly on the road to victory. Together they finally triumphed four years later in Seoul and became Olympic gold medal champions. Pierre Durand’s “small” black horse is now considered as one of the greatest show jumping horses of all time. Guillaume Canet, one of the most talented actors of his generation, and himself an exceptional show jumper, wrote the screenplay and portrays Pierre Durand. He embodies this gripping adventure which mirrors his own personal story.

A once great actor, Serge Tanneur (Fabrice Luchini), has retired from the limelight. Too much pressure meant that one day, he simply decided he would act no more. For the past three years, he has lived in solitude on the Île de Ré, spending his time cycling through the windswept landscape. Fellow actor Gauthier Valence (Lambert Wilson), whose career is flying high, is planning a production of Molière’s play The Misanthrope and wants to offer Serge the title role. Gauthier is convinced he will accept, since Serge himself has become a misanthrope, withdrawn from society and raging against the world. It would be wonderful to see him return in that part. But Serge plays hard to get. Instead of committing, he suggests they rehearse together for the week. Things look to be going well, especially when a mysterious Italian divorcee (Maya Sansa) brings a romantic spark into his life. With the play’s producer, Gauthier’s agent and his lover all arriving on the island at the weekend, the pressure is on Serge to make up his mind. Is he merely toying with Gauthier, or does he really intend to take to the stage once more?

It is 1982, Beirut, Lebanon. Twelve-year-old FAHED lives in poverty with his father and grandfather in the Shatila Palestinian refugee camp. His father obsessively tends his prized but sickly olive tree, a remnant of the home they fled in 1948. He refuses to plant it until they return to their ancestral land. Bright, smart and knowing how to work the streets, FAHED and his group of friends are playing one day when they see something come off an Israeli jet. Not knowing what they will discover the group heads off to recover the item. What they are not expecting to find is YONI a proud, second generation fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. Having to eject on his latest sortie he is captured, and imprisoned in the very camp where Fahed lives. Face-to-face with the enemy Israeli, Fahed predictably takes his anger out on the pilot, and receives the same in return. It’s not until Fahed realises that the olive tree is dying, that he hatches a plan to free the prisoner, using Yoni to get him past the border and into “Palestine” to plant his father’s olive tree. It is here their journey begins. Fahed and Yoni must overcome the fierce hatred, raw emotion and intolerance built up over generations in order to survive the dangerous journey as Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese militia chase them across war-torn Lebanon. A tenuous friendship takes root and strengthens with every hurdle they overcome, to reach the land they both consider home. Zaytoun is a story of survival, reconciliation and friendship. The pilot and boy gain one another’s respect and trust, and a charming and inspirational friendship is allowed to blossom.
