The plan is very important to us as it sets the direction on how we will develop Hart over the next fifteen years, and provides the rules which underpin all planning decisions. Without an agreed plan, government inspectors could overrule decisions which are made locally and give developers free-reign to develop where they want. The previous plan has expired and agreement of its replacement is nearing a conclusion.

When the draft plan was published for public consultation recently we had 500 responses which have all been reviewed and taken into account. Consultation has now closed.

The plan has now been submitted to the Secretary of State, and I am optimistic for a successful outcome.

And all this from very humble beginnings in a burnt out warehouse.

Simon immediately set out his stall by assuring the gathered residents of Clare Park (plus a handful of others – more on that later) that LoveFilm, despite its title, wasn’t in fact a company that specialised in adult entertainment. Although this disappointed some members of the audience (you know who you are), it was a light hearted introduction to his presentation. Simon’s film theme for the talk started with ‘Three Men and a baby’, incidentally the highest grossing film of 1987. I found astonishing as that was the year Fatal Attraction was released, but each to their own. The analogy was simple enough, three friends had a ‘baby’ company that grew and grew. Simon told us about the way that the budding company treated its customers, if for example the company failed to get a DVD to the customers on time, they would write and apologise before crediting them with a free film or similar.
