    Country fact sheet: ITALY #EUCreativeCities https://composite-indicators.jrc.ec.europa.eu/cultural-creative-cities-monitor The Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor is a new tool to benchmark the performance of European cities compared to their peers using both quantitative and qualitative data. It provides a common evidence base at city level that helps decision- makers learn from each other and inspires fit-for-purpose policies to boost economic growth and job creation, foster social development and citizens' well-being, and strengthen resilience. This year's first edition covers 168 cities in 30 countries, selected from about 1000 cities in Eurostat’s Urban Audit on the basis of their verifiable engagement in promoting culture and creativity. Being included in the Monitor is thus in itself an acknowledgement of the importance these cities attach to culture and creativity. The Monitor’s quantitative information is captured in 29 indicators. These are grouped into 9 dimensions reflecting 3 major facets of cities’ cultural, social and economic vitality: ‘Cultural Vibrancy’, ‘Creative Economy’ and ‘Enabling Environment’. In addition, qualitative evidence helps illustrate what cities are good at. Balkan Cinema Express is a festival of Balkan short films bringing young students close to cinema, allowing them not only to engage with the selected works, but with Balkan culture at large - so closely linked with our contemporary history and yet widely unexplored and not nearly known enough in both the artistic and socio/cultural fields. The competing short films will be screened for 200 young students. Then the students will be prepared to become part of the jury, alongside the jury of experts, through a detailed workshop led by competent professionals. Project overview Project The project is made up of five main events and activities: a workshop, the creation of an audio-visual project, the screening of the selected shorts, the award ceremony and Balkan Cinema Express A/R. The project was conceived within a reflection on the historical and social context of the region of Abruzzo - a reflection that cannot but embrace most of the Italian territory. In the nineties a great number of Balkan immigrants fled their countries (Albania, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia…), crossed the Adriatic and headed for the Italian regions along the coasts, such as Abruzzo, where the number of Balkan nationals is particularly high to this day.

    MEMBERSHIP MONITORING GUIDELINES This document explains the process and guidelines for the preparation and submission of the Membership Monitoring Reports by the member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). These reports, which must be submitted every four years following the year of designation, are intended to: demonstrate the steadfast commitment of the members towards the implementation of the UCCN Mission Statement both at local and international level; renew the engagement of the members through the presentation of an action plan for the following four years intended to enhance the implementation of the UCCN Mission Statement; foster the exchange of information with UNESCO, fellow member cities and the international community on the activities developed in the framework of the Network; obtain insights into the importance and the impact of the designations at the local level; and encourage the development of research and case studies on the concepts and experiences of the creative cities and the potential of creativity for sustainable urban development, as well as the gathering of new data. 1. BACKGROUND In applying to become a member of the UCCN, each city acknowledges its commitment to sharing best practices, developing partnerships promoting creativity and the cultural industries, strengthening participation in cultural life and integrating culture in urban development plans.     A BRIEF PRESENTATION National Palace of Culture National Palace of Culture - Congress Centеr Sofia (NPC) is one of the largest multi-purpose venues in Southeastern Europe. Opened in 1981, NPC is designed to host a wide range of events as international congresses, official meetings, conferences, international conventions, summits, exhibitions, festivals, concerts and other cul- tural events. The Palace houses a rich variety of the most distinguished Bulgarian collections of visual arts designed by some of the most prominent artists of the country. These monumental works are integrated in the conceptual architecture and design of NPC. Nowadays, National Palace of Culture seeks to give new dynamics to its environment by establishing a diverse contemporary art spaces that are meant to shape Sofia’s cultural life.     OECD/IMHE project Supporting the Contribution of Higher Education Institutions to Regional Development Self-Evaluation Report: Busan, Republic of Korea Jang-soo Ryu, Sung-joon Paik, Dae-shik Lee, Hyun-joong Jun, Eui-soo Cho and Jong-han Kim January 2006 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This self-evaluation report has been created with the help and support of regional partners such as universities in the Busan region, the central government, the regional government, and businesses. There are a total of six authors to this report including a regional co-ordinator and their expertise cover a wide range of fields including economics, education, and sociology. This report would not have been possible without the active help from our regional partners. In preparing the questionnaire the authors referred to many materials, including past OECD reports, and at the same time reflected Busan’s regional characteristics. Questionnaires were distributed to twelve universities in the Busan region to research and analyze each university’s role in regional development. Representatives from all twelve universities participated in the questionnaire review meeting and gave outstanding opinions, and the researchers actively reflected those opinions in creating the final questionnaire. Everybody from the Busan region universities gave sincere answers to the question and provided much data. After creating the self-evaluation report, the authors collected opinions from the regional steering committee, and the regional steering committee authorized the report as Busan’s self-evaluation report. The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MOE) and Busan Metropolitan City gave unreserved support in creating this report. Not only did the MOE judge this project as a means to accurately identify university’s roles for regional development so far, but had plans to promote similar researches in other regions, based on this report.
