This term there has been a focus on getting year 11s working towards the last part of their courses and guiding year 9 students towards choosing their GCSE courses. There have been a number of trips and visits this half term as well; students have taken part in the Gifted and Talented courses at Reigate College, a trip to Belgium, the ‘Big Clear Up’ of the Ecology Area and the exciting SATRO competition which our KS4 students won with ease and KS3 students were placed third. We have welcomed a number of new staff to the team during the course of the half term; Dr Cameron and Mr Shah have joined the Science Faculty, Mr Martin has been appointed as Head of Business Studies and ICT, Mr Gardner has joined the English Faculty and Mr Pietruszewski has taken up position as our new Site and Premises Manager. We are really excited to have been able to appoint such strong staff during the year and know that they will quickly get to know your children and provide exciting and challenging lessons. With regards to RE teaching we have not been able to appoint fully in this subject area and are using our own staff team to provide lessons to the students to ensure they get their entitlement with quality teaching. The New Build As you will be aware, we had a very exciting start to the week last week where an old piece of artillery was found hidden in the ground behind the East Block. It was quickly identified that it was of no risk to us and was then retrieved from the ground. It has been placed in the glass cabinet in the entrance of the school for students to see. The contractors have continued to make good progress across this week with the main compound due to be completed over half term and piling for the steel frames beginning this week. It won’t be long before we see the sports hall begin to take shape as it is erected during March. Please do keep track of all developments via our Facebook Page and the website. Kier are also looking for someone to support them with their admin here on the school site. If anyone feels they have a few hours to spare and would be interested then please contact the Project Manager, Mr Laurence Hamill ([email protected]). This Half Term As we have moved through this term, we have been going back to basics and ensuring that students work hard and behave appropriately at all times. We have focussed on uniform, how we walk around the school site and being prepared for learning, by having the correct equipment ‘Every Lesson; Every Day’. It is important that we continue to uphold the highest standards possible in everything that we and the students do. We are striving for excellence in all aspects of The Warwick life as we endeavour to prepare our students for life beyond school. Next Half Term Year 11 students are in their final weeks of GCSE courses before revision really steps up. Intervention classes will continue and students should be planning to do between 1 and 2 hours of revision a night. Across the school, students have been linking in with the SIMS student app which should make it easier Therfield School, The Ashcombe School and The Warwick School have formed and are part of South East Surrey Schools Educational Trust (SESSET), a charitable company limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales with company number 10479401. Finally, the Governing Body are looking for more parents to support the school as a ‘Parent Governor’. Being part of the Governing Body means that you can have an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the school as well as playing a strategic role in the direction and journey of the school. It is an exciting time here at the moment as we watch the new build take shape but also build on our strong foundations to raise standards and provide a curriculum to support students as they move through the school into the world of further education and work. If you are interested and/or want to know more then please contact my pa ([email protected]) or the Clerk of the Governing body, Mrs Anne Fishburn ([email protected]). I wish you all a safe and happy half term. • What Is School Direct?
What is School Direct? School Direct is a programme whereby schools recruit trainees directly and select them to train and work within their partnership schools. Schools, therefore, have more control over the quality of training, which is provided, and how it is delivered. We guarantee an interview for any relevant post in a partnership school for those who are successful on the programme with us. What are the routes? There are two routes into School Direct: Salaried and non-salaried. The salaried route is aimed at graduates with at least 3 years work experience and is an employment-based route into teaching. The non-salaried route is open to all graduates funded by bursaries and tuition fees paid by the graduate through the student loan scheme. Our School Direct programmes will lead you to gaining a PGCE in conjunction with our partnership universities. Who is in our partnership? The Warwick School (www.warwick.surrey.sch.uk) Reigate College (http://www.reigate.ac.uk/) Royal Alexandra and Albert School (http://www.raa-school.co.uk/) Oxted School (http://www.oxtedschool.co.uk) The Ashcombe School (Lead School) (http://www.ashcombe.surrey.sch.uk/index.shtml) University of Sussex (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/education) University of Brighton (http://about.brighton.ac.uk/education/) We have a very successful and long-standing tradition of working with these schools and universities and have been fortunate enough to offer permanent employment to most of our school direct trainees in the past 7 years. What kind of training can we offer you? The model for training that we will follow will primarily focus on training in the classroom as well as having regular focused training days delivered by outstanding practitioners.

  • Surrey Downs Partnership Will Be Delivering All Training and Professional Development to Those on the School Direct Programme
What is School Direct? School Direct is a programme whereby trainees apply directly to the school of their choice and, if successful, train and work within their partnership schools. Schools, therefore, have more control over the quality of training, which is provided, and how it is delivered. You will have an extended placement at your host school, meaning you become far more integrated as a member of staff at the school of your choice. This is supplemented by a shorter second placement, where we will work with you to arrange the best contrasting, local placement within one of our partner schools. We guarantee an interview for any relevant post in a partnership school for those who are successful on the programme with us. What are the routes? There are two routes into School Direct: Salaried and non-salaried. The salaried route is aimed at graduates with at least 3 years work experience and is an employment-based route into teaching. The non-salaried route is open to all graduates and is funded by competitive government bursaries (subject dependent) and tuition fees paid by the graduate through the student loan scheme.
