American Museum of Natural History, online at http://research.amnh.org/entomology/spiders/catalog/index.html Last udated: 10.12.2009 INTRODUCTION Fossil spiders have not been fully cataloged since Bonnet’s Bibliographia Araneorum and are not included in the current Catalog. Since Bonnet’s time there has been considerable progress in our understanding of the spider fossil record and numerous new taxa have been described. As part of a larger project to catalog the diversity of fossil arachnids and their relatives, our aim here is to offer a summary list of the known fossil spiders in their current systematic position; as a first step towards the eventual goal of combining fossil and Recent data within a single arachnological resource. To integrate our data as smoothly as possible with standards used for living spiders, our list follows the names and sequence of families adopted in the Catalog. For this reason some of the family groupings proposed in Wunderlich’s (2004, 2008) monographs of amber and copal spiders are not reflected here, and we encourage the reader to consult these studies for details and alternative opinions. Extinct families have been inserted in the position which we hope best reflects their probable affinities. Genus and species names were compiled from established lists and cross-referenced against the primary literature. -

Orientador(a): Antonio D. Brescovit São Paulo 2015 RESUMO O objetivo principal deste trabalho é a revisão das espécies neotropicais de Masteriinae. Após análise de um extenso material de coleções, Masteriinae é redefinida e apresenta hoje três gêneros: Masteria L. Koch, 1873 com 21 espécies neotropicais, Striamea Raven, 1981 com duas e Siremata gen. nov. com três espécies, são exclusivas da região Neotropical. Masteria é revisada e diagnosticada com base na espécie-tipo e separa-se dos demais gêneros por apresentar padrão ocular retangular em um cômoro baixo, presença de processo prolateral na tíbia da perna I dos machos e depressão basal e megaespinho basal no metatarso I dos machos. Masteria hirsuta L. Koch, 1873 é aqui redescrita e diagnosticada para comparação, uma vez que é da fauna asiática. A genitália da fêmea é estudada com detalhes, uma vez que pela primeira vez seus caracteres internos foram analisados. Molecular phylogenetic analyses have generally supported the monophyly of Atypoidea, but prior studies have not sampled all relevant taxa. Here we generated a dataset of ultraconserved element loci for all described atypoid genera, including taxa (Mecicobothrium and Hexurella) key to understanding familial monophyly, divergence times, and patterns of entrance web evolution. We show that the conserved regions of the arachnid UCE probe set target exons, such that it should be possible to combine UCE and transcriptome datasets in arachnids. We also show that different UCE probes sometimes target the same protein, and under the matching parameters used here show that UCE alignments sometimes include non- Submitted 1 February 2019 orthologs. Raven Queensland Museum Gregory Terrace, Fortitude Valley, Queensland ABSTRACT Thespecies of the Anamem¢culata (Hogg) species-group (previously Chenistonia) are revised. The type species, Chenistonlamaculara Hogg, and C trevallynia Hickmanare diagnosed.Five new species: A. caeruleomontana,A. earrhwatchorum,A. hiekmani,A. montanaand A. tropica, are described. Asmost of these species possess a serrula, absent in manyother species of Aname,the groupis of phylo~eneticsignificance. Becausethe groupoccurs in discontinuousmontane talnforests fromnorthern Queensland to Tasmania,it is also of biogeographicinterest. INTRODUCTION The Anamemaculata species group includes someof those species previously included in Chenistonia which Raven (1981) considered monophyletic. Although the species have revised lack a synapomorphythey remain a coherent taxonomicunit. Males of all species have a moderately short embolus on the palp and the first metatarsus is not usually as incrassate as that of the A. pallida species group. Twopreviously described species, Anamemaculata (Hogg) and Anametrevallynia (Hickman), are included in the group present. The male of "Chenistonia tepperi’ Hogg[presumably that described by Rainbow and PuUeine(1918) as Chenistonia major Hoggand placed by Main (1972) in Stanwellia] is being revised by Mainas part of the very complex’Chenistonia tepperi’ species group. MATERIALS AND METHODS All drawings were made with a camera-lucida. Spermathecae were drawn after being cleared in lactic acid. All measurementsare in millimetres except eye measurements which are in ocular micrometerunits. -

TAYLORf Department of Zoology, University of Canterbury, Private Bag, Christchurch, New Zealand Accepted 15 May 1986 SUMMARY The spider, Porrhothele antipodiana, starved and provided with water, produced urine via the anal excretory system (Malpighian tubules, midgut diverticula and stercoral pocket) at a mean rate of about 2-5-5//I g"1 day"1 and with a mean Na+/K+ ratio of about 1-0. Salts ingested from the prey were eliminated by two mechanisms. A K+-rich (Na+/K+ about 0-2) anal diuresis lasted about 3 days following a single meal and was maintained at more than SO^lg^'day"1 during feeding ad libitum. The second mechanism, interpreted as coxal secretion, func- tioned only during feeding itself and delivered Na+ into the prey at a constant rate of about 3 %h~' of total body Na+. This progressively raised the Na+/K+ ratio of the prey debris from 0-47 to 0-96 and, because of re-ingestion, recycled more Na+ than was originally present in the prey. Feeding was associated with large net increases in dry weight and ions, particularly K+, which were mainly stored in the diverticular tissue (midgut diverticula and Malpighian tubules embedded in adipose tissue). The stercoral fluid (final urine) was slightly hyposmotic to the haemolymph in starved and fed spiders. Only about half of its osmolarity was accounted for by Na+, K+ and Cl~. -
