Italy and Tuscany DOLOMITI SNOW AND NATURE Glaciers, Nature, Snow and history The Dolomites (Dolomiti) are a beautiful mountain range in northern Italy. Homebase of the snow and sky lovers, this enchanting region offers more than one reason to be astonished: nature, trails, snow, glaciers, and historic sites as well. Our places of choice in the area, where a special tour can be arranged on request, are: Cortina d’Ampezzo Val Gardena: Beautifully situated in the center of a vast valley, the valley d’Ampezzo, crowned by the superb mountain peaks of Cristallo and Tofane, Cortina is the heart of the Dolomiti of the Veneto. The happy setting allows easy access to all the other nearby locations through the “passi”, passes, of Falzarego, Giau and Tre Croci. Cortina is the Queen of the Dolomiti and is the biggest and most famous of the 18 provinces that form the Ladinia. Cortina is situated at the top of the Valle del Boite, and is positioned between Cadore (south) and the Puster Valley(north), Val d' Ansiei (east) and Agordo (west). It is encircled 360° by the Dolomites. Among the more famous mountains are Tofane, Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Faloria and Sorapis, and Becco di Mezzodì, Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri. The city centre is located at an elevation of 1,224 metres (4,016 ft), although the highest summit is that of the Tofana di Mezzo, which towers at 3,244 metres (10,643 ft). There is a significant water presence in the territory, in the form of torrents, streams and little lakes (Ghedina, Pianozes, d'Ajal), which fill particularly during the summer snow-melt season. Fauna includes marmots, roe deer, chamoises and hares. One of the memorable James Bond stunt sequences in 1981's For Your Eyes Only, gunners on spike-wheeled motorcycles chasing Roger Moore on skis, was filmed on its slopes, as were several scenes in the film Cliffhanger. Audrey Hepburn was a frequent visitor to the slopes of Cortina. After Ernest Hemingway's wife Hadley lost a suitcase filled with Hemingway's manuscripts at the Gare de Lyon in Paris he took a time off. He began writing that same year again in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the story he wrote here was Out of Season. Val di Fassa is a valley in the Dolomites of Trentino region. It is the home of the Ladin community which makes up the majority of the population. Rare beauty and astonishing landscape that had become myth. In the shadow of Sass Pordoi, of Torri del Sella, Marmolada and the Rosengarten, the inhabitants of the Val di Fassa have set some of the most famous legends of the Dolomites. Try to reach the natural terraces of these mountains watching sunrise and sunset with warm shades of color of Enrosadira to understand the love of the Ladins for these corners of paradise where you can enjoy breathtaking views. From a 1 "belvedere" you dominate unique landscapes and the gaze is lost at 360 degrees between peaks and expanses that seem inexplicably does not have end. Val di Fiemme the valley was part of the Cisalpin Gaul province of the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages Val di Fiemme belonged to the Bishopric of Trento. Under the Austrian Empire, it was part of so-called "Welschtirol" (Ladin speaking Tyrol) from the early 19th century until 1919-20. For the time after 1919/20, Tyrol was partitioned and Trentino-South Tyrol became part of Italy as a tourist attraction. Val di Fiemme has become well known for its skying areas, even hosting the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991,2003,2013. Madonna di Campiglio a discreet and elegant town nestling at an altitude of 1550 metres in the stupendous valley between the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, is today most certainly Italy’s number one ski resort as well as one of the most important resorts in the Alps. The ski area around Madonna has 57 lifts and 150 km (93 mi) of ski runs, with a capacity of more than 31,000 people per hour, rises to 2,600 m (8,530 ft), has 50,000 m2 (12 acres) of snow park, 40 km (25 mi) for Nordic skiing and links to the slopes in Pinzolo, Folgarida, and Marilleva. Madonna di Campiglio is the main point of access to the Brenta Dolomites with its famous via ferrata. Individual quote of participation ON REQUEST. 50 th EFNS European Forester‘s competition in Nordic Skiing 28.01. - 03.02.2018 Welcome to South Tyrol! Biathlon centre Antholz/Anterselva Südtirol Arena Alto Adige Welcome to Antholz, Welcome to South Tyrol! 1 Dear Sport Friends, on behalf of the South Tyrolian Forestry Association, I would like to welcome you to the “European Forester's Competition in Nordic Skiing” in South Tyrol. This year, the EFNS championship takes place for the 50th time. A very special anniversary – and it is a pleasure to host this event. The location Antholz/Anterselva, where the Biathlon World Cup takes place annually, is famous all over Europe. It is a wonderful sporting area in the middle of forests in between the Lake of Antholz and the stunning mountains of the Rieserferner Group. It’s already the third time that the South Tyrolian Forestry Association hosts the “European Forester's Competition in Nordic Skiing”. The competition has already been held in 1984 in Kastelruth/Castelrotto and 1992 in Toblach/Dobbiaco. 26 years later, it returns for its 50th anniversary. The organising committee led by our motivated chair Heinrich Schwingshackl has been working intensively for over 2 years to organize interesting competitions and an attractive frame programme. A very special highlight is the Jubilee Run “50 Years EFNS”: Every cross-country enthusiast can run the popular Tour de Ski course from Cortina to Toblach/Dobbiaco without timekeeping. EFNS is not only about sports competitions but also about friendship without borders. It is remarkable that so many participants with different jobs in the wood and forestry sector of over 20 European Countries come together.
