GMDT Annual Report April 2019 - March 2020 A successful development trust Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) Objectives and aims of GMDT Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) has been in existence since 2006 and the diverse range of projects carried out over the past fourteen years could not have happened without the support of our partners, funders and members. GMDT has continued its objective of developing partnership networks through facilitation to develop initiatives and through the skills base in the team adding value where ever possible to make Morpeth a quality place to live. GMDT has developed a portfolio of projects to deliver these aims and objectives and the major capital schemes which have benefitted the town include the redevelopment of Morpeth Town Hall and Morpeth Railway Station which generate development revenue and a sustainable income to support the activities of GMDT. This has been achieved through the support of a number of funding bodies who have invested in the vision to redevelop key public assets within Morpeth – the main funders being Heritage Lottery Fund, Network Rail, Northern Trains Limited, Northumberland County Council, Railway Heritage Trust and North East Rural Growth Network. The existing staff team is made up of 1 full time and 2 part time members supported by a range of professional associates to deliver a portfolio of quality projects and through engaging volunteers’ support and strong partnership working we work to maintain our level of service delivery for the benefit of Morpeth. Its remit covers all sectors of economic infrastructure: energy, transport, water and wastewater (drainage and sewerage), waste, flood risk management and digital communications. While the Commission considers the potential interactions between its infrastructure recommendations and housing supply, housing itself is not in its remit. Also, out of the scope of the Commission are social infrastructure, such as schools, hospitals or prisons, agriculture, and land use. Press Release 04 December 2009 XC2009/041 (LW) CROSSCOUNTRY TOPS RAILWAY CHARTS It’s Gold and Silver for award-winning train operator CrossCountry has won two prestigious rail industry awards in recognition of its trains being one of the most improved and reliable fleets across Britain’s rail network. CrossCountry was awarded Gold and Silver at last week’s annual ‘Golden Spanner’ ceremony organised by industry magazine Modern Railways. The Golden Spanner went to the Class 221 Super Voyagers for taking first place in the ‘Modern DMU’ category as the most reliable fleet in its class. The Super Voyagers also took the Silver Spanner for being the most improved fleet thanks to reliability being up 118% on last year. The ‘Golden Spanner’ is an awards scheme aimed at promoting excellence in train maintenance within Britain. Sarah Kendall, Production Director at CrossCountry said: “We are extremely proud to win these nationally recognised awards. Since the start of our franchise in November 2007 the team at CrossCountry has worked very closely with Bombardier Transportation, our maintainer to take specific targeted steps to improve the reliability of our Voyager trains. Our focus now is to build on this significant progress and further improve our performance. Train reliability is vital for our customers and therefore of the highest priority for us.” All trains are ranked on the distance they cover between technical faults by the Association of Train Operating Companies’ (ATOC) National Fleet Reliability Improvement Programme. Using this league table (see below) CrossCountry’s Voyager trains outperformed all other intercity fleets across the country. -

Acquisition by Arriva Rail North Limited of the Northern rail franchise Summary of final report 2 November 2016 Background 1. On 20 May 2016, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), in the exercise of its duty under section 22(1) of the Enterprise Act 2002 (the Act), referred the completed acquisition by Arriva Rail North Limited (ARN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arriva plc (Arriva), of the Northern rail franchise (the Northern Franchise) (altogether the Merger) for further investigation and report by a group of CMA panel members (inquiry group). Throughout this document, where appropriate, we refer to Arriva, ARN and the Northern Franchise collectively as ‘the Parties’. 2. In exercise of its duty under section 35(1) of the Act, the CMA must decide: (a) whether a relevant merger situation has been created; and (b) if so, whether the creation of that situation has resulted or may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition (SLC) within any market or markets in the United Kingdom (UK) for goods or services.
