  • Traffic Connectivity in Croatia in the Past: the Dubrovnik Region Case
Athens Journal of History - Volume 1, Issue 3 – Pages 195-204 Traffic Connectivity in Croatia in the Past: The Dubrovnik Region Case By Marija Benić Penava This paper analyses the development of traffic routes in the far south of Croatia during the 19th and 20th century. Poor traffic connectivity was the consequence of traffic policy which was subordinated to the interests of Vienna in the Austro- Hungarian Monarchy, and after World War I, to Belgrade. Since the Dubrovnik region was oriented towards the sea, and since traditionally it had strong entrepreneurship and sea traffic that enabled great economic prosperity of Dubrovnik in the past centuries. Ships flying the flag of Sveti Vlaho (Saint Blaise, the patron saint of the city) were present in the Mediterranean and the world’s oceans, yet the service industry which Dubrovnik provided was completed by tourism only in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The perception of Dubrovnik as a world tourist destination was established in the first half of the 20th century and that could only be maintained by quality traffic routes. Therefore it was extremely important for the prosperity of the far south of Croatia to have and retain the best connectivity by railway as well as sea, land and air traffic. Introduction The transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century was a period of great economic change in Europe. The discovery of the Watt’s steam engine (1764) enabled mechanical transport, which neither the working animals nor the natural power, on which transportation was dependent previously, could not contest. The steam engine passed the milestone in the field of transport connection.

Podgo rički zabit Mehmed-spahija Lekić napada ih noću 17. marta, hvata ih žive, zatvara, ubija, njihove glave šalje na poklon Hafis-paši u Skadar i plijeni oko četiri hiljade njihove sitne stoke i stotinu volova. Noću između 9./21. i 10./22. marta 1835. iznenađuju oko pedeset Ceklinjana, Ljubotinjana i Kuča stražare male turske tvrđave u Žabljaku i krišom upadaju u nju.

Date podatke treba koristiti kao svjedočanstvo o vremenu nacionalističkih ludosti i morbidnim stranama ljudske ličnosti. Treba ih shvatiti kao upozorenje i opo- menu. Upravo zbog društvene šutnje i sudara iskustava, manje ili više dokumentirane predaje i, dakako, interesa, kraj prethodne rečenice, izazivat će rogušenja oko dva navedena pojma: Pravda i pravednost.

  • Adriatic & Balkans
Travel Experience: Adriatic & Balkans Page 1 Page 2 The Adriatic and Balkan countries are becoming more and more a interesting landmark for wine lovers and wine writers. Starting from the Northern Adriatic countries to the Balkan Peninsula we can find countries that are culturally and politically diverse, but all share in a millennia-old love of wine and its production. More than 400 autochthonous varieties of wine grapes are grown on this area. Some, such as Plavac Mali, Zelenac and Vranac are basically unknown in the rest of the world but produce fine wine in most of the Adriatic and Balkan nations. There would appear to be an immense potential for greater development of wine tourism in the region, which with time could become a boon to its new market- based economies. This shows the importance of correct knowledge of clans and their influence in the areas they are inhabiting. 1 Clans in Chechnya1 Confederation Clans Localisation A’kkhiï Bartchakhoï, J’evoï, Ziogoï, In the east of Chechnya, Pkhiartchoï, Pkhiartchakhoï, near Daghestan; North of Nokkhoï, Va’ppiï Daghestan Malkhiï Amkhoï, Bia’stiï, Bienastkhoï, In the south west of Italtchkhoï, Kamalkhoï, Chechnya, along the frontier Kkhoratkhoï, Kiegankhoï, with Ingushetia and Georgia Mechiï, Sakankhoï, Teratkhoï, Tchiarkhoï, Erkhoï, Yamkhoï Nokhtchmakhkoï Aïtkhaloï, Belguiatoï, Benoï, East, Southeast and part of Biltoï, Guandarguenoï, central Chechnya Guiordaloï, Gouonoï, Zandak’oï, Ikhiiroï, Ichkhoï, Kourchaloï, Sessankhoï, Tchermoï, Tsientaroï, Tchartoï, Eguiachbatoï, Enakkhaloï, Enganoï, Chouonoï, Yalkhoï, Yaliroï Terloï Nik’aroï, O’chniï, Cho’ndiï, Along the Tchanty-Argun Eltpkh’arkhoï 1 M.A. Mamakaev. • Travel Gives You Wings
Travel gives you wings... FOR GROUPS : « VIA DINARICA » SOUTHERN CROATIA, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA AND MONTENEGRO IN 11 DAYS Via Dinarica stretches from Slovenia to Greece following the Dinaric alps mountain range crossing the vast Balkan peninsula and unifying different cultures and landscapes. The main natural feature are limestone soil and water magically sculpting the rock to create canyons, lakes, waterfalls, caves…. We invite you to discover the Adriatic portion of the Via Dinarica with the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. You will explore an exceptional area with mountains slopes falling abruptly into the sea. Then the journey takes us to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The arid region of Herzegovina converges upon the city of Mostar and its famous bridge. On the other hand, the region of Bosnia is very green with extensive forests preserved due to few human settlements. The best example is the Sutjeska national park and the strict nature reserve you will discover in a one-of-a-kind visit with park rangers. Finally, the trip takes us to Montenegro, a dreamlike setting with impressive mountains and wild landscapes. This tour combines hiking with culture and allows the discovery of the main sites such as Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia, Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kotor in Montenegro, the essentials of the northern Balkans. Our goal is to offer the best experience on site so we don’t organize this tour in July and August due to long waiting times at border crossings and conditions that are not ideal for hiking. These walks are level 2 to 3, accessible to all.
