Frost Resistance of Grapevine Cultivars of Different Origin
340 Section 4 Frost resistance of grapevine cultivars of different origin P. C!NDRIC, N. KoRAc Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad, YU-2100 Novi Sad, Yugoslavia S u m m a r y : The tescs of resistance to low temperature which included a large number of grapevine cultivars showed that the cultivars bore sign of their ecological-geographical and genetic origins with respect to the resistance to low temperature. The tests, conduaed over several years, consisted of exposing cuttings of annual shoots to low temperature in a cold chamber. The tests were repeated thrre times each winter, following the uniform method and time, in order to be able to distinguish relative differences in the degree of resistance between the cultivan tested. Most cultivars from Western Europe (occidenra/is NEGR., gallica Nl:'M.) had a high degree ofresistanee to low temperature. They tended to reach the peak of the resistance in mid winter. The cultivars from the continental part of the Balkans (pontica NEGR., balcanica NEGR.) were unanimously sensitive to low temperature. The cultivars from the warm Mediterranean climate of Southern Europe (pomica NEGR., balcanica NEGR. and occidentalis NEGR., iberica NEM.) were still more sensitive than the cultivars in the previously mentioned group. The wine cultivars developed from imerspecific crosses of European grapevines and American species exhibited a high degree of resistance in the middle and at the end of winter while the hybrids vinifera x amurensis were highly resistant at the beginning and in the middle of winter. Both groups can be used as donors of resistance to low temperature in programs of breeding cold hardy grapevine cultivars. -

[1955].1 Na osnovi istraţivanja skupine autora, koji su ponovo izmjerili opsege i površine hrvatskih otoka i otoĉića većih od 0,01 km2 [2004],2 u Ministarstvu mora, prometa i infrastrukture je zatim 2007. godine objavljena opseţna nova graĊa, koju sad moramo smatrati referentnom [2007].3 No, i taj pregled je manjkav, ponajprije stoga jer je namijenjen specifiĉnom administrativnom korištenju, a ne »statistici«. Drugi problem svih novijih popisa, barem onih objavljenih, jest taj da ne navode sve najmanje otoĉiće i hridi, iako ulaze u konaĉne brojke.4 Brojka 1244, koja je sada najĉešće u optjecaju, uopće nije dokumentirana.5 Osnovni izvor za naš popis je, dakle, [2007], i u graniĉnim primjerima [2004]. Athens Journal of History - Volume 1, Issue 3 – Pages 195-204 Traffic Connectivity in Croatia in the Past: The Dubrovnik Region Case By Marija Benić Penava This paper analyses the development of traffic routes in the far south of Croatia during the 19th and 20th century. Poor traffic connectivity was the consequence of traffic policy which was subordinated to the interests of Vienna in the Austro- Hungarian Monarchy, and after World War I, to Belgrade. Since the Dubrovnik region was oriented towards the sea, and since traditionally it had strong entrepreneurship and sea traffic that enabled great economic prosperity of Dubrovnik in the past centuries. Ships flying the flag of Sveti Vlaho (Saint Blaise, the patron saint of the city) were present in the Mediterranean and the world’s oceans, yet the service industry which Dubrovnik provided was completed by tourism only in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The perception of Dubrovnik as a world tourist destination was established in the first half of the 20th century and that could only be maintained by quality traffic routes. Therefore it was extremely important for the prosperity of the far south of Croatia to have and retain the best connectivity by railway as well as sea, land and air traffic. Introduction The transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century was a period of great economic change in Europe. The discovery of the Watt’s steam engine (1764) enabled mechanical transport, which neither the working animals nor the natural power, on which transportation was dependent previously, could not contest. The steam engine passed the milestone in the field of transport connection.
