The inaugural “StarHub TVB Awards Presentation” in Singapore Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh emerged the biggest winners of the night

The highly anticipated StarHub TVB Awards Presentation was successfully held on January 29, Friday at 8pm, at The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Hotel in Singapore. In celebration of the 18 years of close partnership between TVB and StarHub, the two giant broadcasters joined hands to organize the first ever StarHub TVB Awards, aiming to reward TVB‟s high quality programmes and celebrated stars. Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh, stole the hearts of many Singaporean fans, were named My Favourite TVB Actor and Actress.

The renowned Singapore radio presenter Wenhong Huang and 2001 Miss Hong Kong Pageant Second Runner-up Heidi Chu were invited to host the award show. Mr. Stephen Chan, General Manager of Broadcasting, Television Broadcasts Limited, together with ten top-notch TVB stars including Moses Chan, Raymond Lam, Roger Kwok, Steven Ma, Wayne Lai, Susanna Kwan, Charmaine Sheh, Sonija Kwok, Fala Chen and Nancy Sit were in full dress to attend the ceremony. Ahead of the show, they appeared in pairs and strolled along the „green paparazzi walk‟ where fans were screaming and media cameras kept flashing.

After the two-month long voting campaign, a buzz has been created among Singaporean fans and media on their favourite TVB dramas and artistes. Finally, a total of 18 awards were presented at the show (details please refer to the awardees list attached). Moonlight Resonance, one of the best-hit TVB dramas, has won excellent reception in Singapore since its release. It swept seven awards, including “My Favourite TVB Drama 2009”. Among the nine award categories, there was an intense competition for“My Favourite TVB Female TV Character 2009” and six winners came out at the end. Louise Lee and Tavia Yeung shared their happiness through video clips though they could not attend the show.

The three red-hot TVB stars Raymond Lam, Charmaine Sheh and Roger Kwok stood out above the rest that night. Each received two acclaimed awards with surprise and excitement. Raymond was titled “My Favourite TVB Actor” and took down one of the “My Favourite TVB Male TV Character 2009” award for his filial role in Moonlight Resonance. Similarly, Charmaine was named “My Favourite TVB Actress” and bagged one of the “My Favourite TVB Female TV Character 2009” award for her portrayal of the tough cop „Madam Ma‟ in Forensic Heroes II. Both Raymond and Charmaine have been dedicated to the TV industry for almost 10 years. They have gained recognition and popularity in Hong Kong as well as other places. The two expressed gratitude towards Singaporean fans for their continuous support and the seniors for their guidance.

TVB‟s Best Actor award winner Roger Kwok has played a number of roles in different dramas with outstanding performance. At the award show in Singapore, he garnered “My Favourite TVB Male TV Character 2009” and “My All Time Favourite TVB Male TV Character” for his portrayal of lovable „Ah Wong‟ and witty „Sergeant Yu‟ in Square Pegs and D.I.E. respectively. Another memorable character touched deeply the viewers‟ mind has to be the heartwarming „Ho Yi‟ played by Nancy Sit in the classic series A Kindred Spirit. Winning the “My All Time Favourite TVB Female TV Character” award, the veteran actress shared that the drama was the turning point of her life which brought her to the peak of her career.

Mr. Stephen Chan was invited to be the award presenter that night. Unexpectedly, he himself also received the award “My Favourite TVB Variety 2009” for being the TV host of Be My Guest. He specially thanks for StarHub and said with humor, “I never have chance to be the winner in TVB as I am usually part of the panel of judges for TV Awards Presentation.”

At the gala event, some of the TVB stars not only came to collect awards but performed songs as well. Susanna Kwan, Sonija Kwok, Fala Chen and Raymond Lam presented a marvelous vocal performance on stage and their soothing voice had touched the heart of audiences. The star-studded show was ended with a toast and all winners shared the joy of accomplishment to the media off the stage.

During January 30-31, Moses Chan, Sonija Kwok, Steven Ma and Nancy Sit were invited to attend the StarHub Prosperity Roadshow at Plaza Singapura. In promotion of the upcoming TVB dramas airing on StarHub TV‟s VV Drama channel, the four artistes had a meet-and-greet session with Singaporean fans, sharing bits and pieces of the drama shooting as well as playing „Gold Rush‟ games. After the roadshow event, TVB artistes moved on to make charity visits to the Moral Home For Disabled, bringing a joyful and festive atmosphere to Singapore ahead of the Year of Tiger.
