    CULTURAL INFORMATIONS POČITELJ The historic site of Počitelj is located on the left bank of the river Neretva, on the main Mostar to Metković road, and it is to the south of Mostar. During the Middle Ages, Počitelj was considered the administrative centre and centre of governance of Dubrava župa (county), while its westernmost point gave it major strategic importance. It is believed that the fortified town along with its attendant settlements were built by Bosnia's King Stjepan Tvrtko I in 1383. The walled town of Počitelj evolved in the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the stone-constructed parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution are evident: mediaeval, and Ottoman. The first recorded reference to Počitelj dates from 1444, in Charters by Kings Alfonso V and Friedrich III. In the period between 1463-1471 the town housed a Hungarian garrison. In 1471, following a brief siege, the town was conquered by the Ottomans, and remained within the Ottoman Empire until 1878. From 1782 to 1879 Počitelj was the kadiluk (area under the jurisdiction of a kadija or qadi - judge) centre and it was the headquarters of the Počitelj military district from 1713 to photo: Donatella Carlovich 1835. The significance and the town's appearance has altered during the course of its history. As far as the development of Počitelj goes, three significant periods can be distinguished: The period of the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus during which the town had a major strategic importance (1463–1471) The period of the settlement development under the Ottoman Empire with the erection of public buildings: mosques, imaret (charitable kitchen), mekteb (Muslim primary school),, medresa (Muslim high school), hamam, baths, han (inn) and the sahat-kula (clock-tower) (1471–1698).

The new toll road is part of the Pan-European Corridor Vc linking Hungary and northeaster Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Adriatic Sea in the area of the port of Ploče. The Project is part of the wider program to develop the Pan- European Corridor Vc in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and bring it to a higher functional level with increased capacity and road safety. EIA required: yes 1 Project included in Carbon Footprint Exercise : NO Summary of Environmental and Social Assessment, including key issues and overall conclusion and recommendation If located in the EU, the Project, consisting in the construction of a new greenfield motorway, would fall under Annex I of the EIA Directive 2011/92/EU and therefore require a full EIA including public consultations. In FBiH it falls under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure as stipulated by the Law on Environmental Protection and pertaining Regulation of BiH (published in the official gazette FBiH n. 33/03 and 38/09). This procedure encompasses in substance the principles of the relevant EU Directives, such as the EIA Directive 2011/92/EU and SEA Directive 2003/35/EC. The potential environmental impacts of the new motorway over the full length of the Corridor Vc on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been assessed in four EIAs related to four distinct macro-sections of the Corridor.

Soon after this meeting Mr. _____________ was being appointed to lead your operations in the Baltics and left Sarajevo without having any action. Our community is terrified by recent event lounced per your client, in this case Motorways of the Fedaration of Bosia and Hercegovina with forceful expropriation of our residents’ land . As was indicated in previous letter we have over 3,000 signatures of local residents directly or indirectly impacted by all means discriminated project. The capitol of Bosnia & Herzegovina is city of Sarajevo. After fallen of ex – Yugoslavia, on 05th of April 1992, Bosnia & Her- zegovina declared its independency. According to certain statistical data (new census list is expected to be available until 2014) around 3,950,000 citizens are living and habituating in Bosnia & Herzegovina. During first several centuries of the new era, Bosnia & Herzegovina was a part of the Roman Em- pire. After fallen of Roman Empire, both Byzantine Empire and western successors of Roman Em- pire claimed Bosnia & Herzegovina territory. Slavic tribes inhabited Bosnia & Herzegovina during 7th century. With exception of today’s eastern Herzegovina and Humin area, during 10th& 11th centuries, Bosnia & Herzegovina became a part of Croatian Kingdom. At the end of 11th and be- ginning of 12th century, Bosnia & Herzegovina became a part of the Hungarian Kingdom till 1463, when Turkish Empire subjected a majority of Bosnia & Herzegovina territory. On 25th of Octo- ber 1478, the last Bosnian Queen Katarina Kosaca – Kotromanic deceased at Rome. During Turk- ish Empire government many Bosnians accepted Islam as their religion. Turkish Empire ruled Bosnia & Herzegovina till 1878 when Bosnia & Herzegovina fallen under Austro – Hungarian protectorate. However, different Slavic enclaves in foreign countries intended to unify all southern Slavic enclaves.
