Thus, sport as a system of meanings can transfer any values, being at the same time a pragmatic way of arguing in the practice of social life. An example we analyze, are the events that took place after Poland (and Ukraine) had been chosen to be host countries of UEFA EURO 2012™, as well as those which took place during the tournament itself. In these analyses, we use the concept of semiotics and, in particular, pragmatism as well as Charles Sanders Peirce’s triadic sign relation. KEYWORDS UEFA EURO 2012, sport, values, semiotics, Peirce Introduction In free and democratic Poland, member of the European Union since 2004, a tournament of the size and importance of the European Championship was organized for the first time in 2012. In April 2007, UEFA 1 chose Poland and Ukraine (non-EU member) as host countries of UEFA EURO 2012™. This measurably influenced a whole body of political, economic, and social processes that took place within the country. After five years of preparation, the tournament took place in June 2012 in sports facilities the majority of which were built or renovated especially for this purpose; and the final match was played in the stadium in Kiev, Ukraine, on 1 July 2012. -

Niemal od początku jego funkcjonowania nie cichną dywagacje na temat ewentualnych zmian personalnych, a od wielu miesięcy w mediach pojawiają się informacje o planach dotyczących poważnej rekonstrukcji. Pewne zmiany zapowiedział sam premier. W październikowym sondażu1 spytaliśmy Polaków o ocenę poszczególnych ministrów i stosunek do ewentualnej rekonstrukcji rządu. OCENA MINISTRÓW Na ranking najlepiej i najgorzej ocenianych ministrów duży wpływ ma stopień rozpoznawalności poszczególnych członków rządu. Mało znani ministrowie2 są rzadko wskazywani zarówno jako dobrzy, jak i źli ministrowie. Najlepiej ocenianym ministrem, dystansującym pozostałych członków rządu, jest minister spraw zagranicznych Radosław Sikorski (33%). Na drugim miejscu znalazł się minister kultury i dziedzictwa narodowego Bogdan Zdrojewski (17%). Niemal co ósmy Polak uważa, że najlepiej swoje obowiązki pełnią premier Donald Tusk (13%) i wicepremier Janusz Piechociński (12%). Piątym z najlepiej ocenianych ministrów jest minister administracji i cyfryzacji Michał Boni (10%). Stosunkowo niewielu Polaków za najlepszego ministra uznało kierującego resortem -

This has led it since its accession to the EU to oppose the EU 1 ’s ambitious climate change and energy policies. In the negotiations on the so-called “Triple 20 directive” 2 of climate change targets to be achieved by 2020 - a 20% reduction in GHG 3 emissions compared to 1990 levels, raising the proportion of renewable energy in primary energy production to 20%, and a 20% increase in energy efficiency compared with 1990 - Poland was joined in its opposition by several of the other new member states. However, in the later negotiation on the “Energy Roadmap 2050”, which agreed on a 80-95% reduction in GHG emissions compared with 1990, only Poland vehemently opposed the plan. As a result, the country has become relatively isolated from the other EU member states in its energy and climate policies. -

THE CASE OF POLISH ELECTION OF 2015 1. INTRODUCTION The subject of this article is the growing resemblance of parliamentary and presidential election. This is mostly visible in the fact that the main goal of political parties in the parliamentary campaign is not to obtain the desirable number of seats in the Parliament, but to win the office of the Prime Minister for its leader. The fight for the aforesaid position can be observed not only in the choice of the campaign strategies but in the mass media reports and the voters’ behavior as well. The aim of this article is to examine to what extent the Polish parliamen- tary election of 2015 adopted features typical of the presidential ones. The author takes into consideration 8 committees that registered their lists in all the 41 voting constituencies1. Due to the fact that only the leading candi- dates of the Civic Platform (abbreviated to PO) and the Law and Justice (PiS) had a real chance to become the Prime Minister, the study will focus on these two major political parties.
