MEDIA RELEASE MAYOR ROWENA ABBEY – YASS VALLEY COUNCIL DEPUTY CHAIR CANBERRA REGION JOINT ORGANISATION Thursday, 3 March 2016 CBR Region Celebrate Achievement in Ministers’ Awards Clr Wendy Tuckerman Mayor of Boorowa Council and Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation was recognised in the NSW Government’s Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government being awarded the recipient for the category elected representative from a rural and regional Council. ‘This is a great honour and I am so proud to be recognised for the work and contribution I have made to Local Government over the past 12 years. I am indeed very lucky to be representing the wonderful communities of the Boorowa Local Government Area and the greater Canberra Region, Clr Tuckerman said. ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said ‘I congratulate Mayor Tuckerman for this recognition of the outstanding work she does promoting the Canberra Region’. Clr Tuckerman also praised the other nominees and said the calibre of women is a testament to the importance of local government at the grass roots and the shared passion and dedication these women give to their communities. ‘The Canberra Region Joint Organisation celebrates this recognition, which is well-deserved, said Clr Rowena Abbey, Mayor of Yass Valley Council and Deputy Chair of the CBRJO. As Chair of the CBRJO, Clr Tuckerman has shown great leadership and commitment; being the champion for the CBRJO membership. This is a great win, not only for Boorowa Council, but the CBR region. Clr Abbey said. Clr Abbey also recognised Clr Danielle Brice from Eurobodalla Shire Council who was also a nominee for the elected representative from a rural and regional council. The Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government celebrate the contribution of women to local government in NSW. In addition to recognising the significant contribution of award winners, the Awards aim to encourage more women to take on leadership roles in local government in NSW. CBRJO consists of 12 Councils across the South East of NSW including Bombala, Boorowa, Cooma-Monaro Shire, Eurobodalla Shire, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Harden Shire, Palerang, Queanbeyan City, Snowy River Shire, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley, Young Shire, as well as the ACT Government. - ENDS - Media Contact: Clr Rowena Abbey 0427 830 910 .
