Press release Geneva, 6 December 2018 COPPET–GENEVA–LANCY-PONT-ROUGE New Léman Express trains to run every 15 minutes Service on the line between Coppet and Lancy-Pont-Rouge will be enhanced as of 9 December 2018, with new Léman Express trains running every 15 minutes on weekdays, from 6:00am to 9:00pm. After 9:00pm, as well as on Saturdays, trains will run every 30 minutes, and every hour on Sundays. Trains have been running every 15 minutes since 11 June 2018, but only during the peak morning and evening commuting times. Passenger numbers on this line – which is poised to become a major regional artery linking France and Switzerland – have grown by 31% over the past ten years. Today over 8,000 people travel daily between Chambesy and GenèveSécheron, the busiest segment. The enhanced service between Coppet and Lancy-Pont-Rouge reflects a joint initiative between the cantons of Vaud and Geneva and the Swiss Federal Transport Office (OFT) to meet growing demand for public transport in the Lake Geneva region. LEMAN EXPRESS LINES GET A NEW NAME Also starting on 9 December 2018 – a year before Léman Express becomes fully operational – the six lines on the Swiss side of the border will change names. The “R” for RegioExpress will become an “L” for Léman Express, and the lines will be numbered: L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 and L6. Lines L1 to L4, which currently stop at Lancy- Pont Rouge, will be extended to stretch from Coppet all the way to Evian-lesBains, Annecy, St-Gervais-Les-Bains and Annemasse starting on 15 December 2019. Once the new CEVA (Cornavin–Eaux-Vives–Annemasse) line is complete, Léman Express trains will link 45 stations through 230 km of track. Léman Express will be the biggest cross-border regional rail service in Europe, with 240 trains daily carrying passengers in and around the Swiss cantons of Vaud and Geneva and the French departments of Haute-Savoie and Ain.
