Sinopsi: Emilio Barrero és, en aparença, un home d'èxit. Economista del Banc d'Espanya, com li agrada dir a son pare, té una dona model, un bonic xalet als afores i un fill que l'admira i li té com a model a imitar. Està a punt de fer els 40 anys i Agata, la seva esposa, li està preparant una sorpresa, però la sorpresa se la portaran els altres, perquè la vida d'Emilio Barrero està basada en l'aparença, en la mentira. Quan Rosana, una encantadora estudiant, apareix al seu món, el precari equilibri en què es manté la seva existència, s'enfonsai tot es precipita en un inesperat desenllaç. "La vida de nadie" és la història de molts que van acabar sent víctimes d'un monstre que ells mateixos van crear partint d'un petit engany. Sinopsi: Som al futur. Chris Kelvin (George Clooney) és un psiquiatra que va perdre l'esposa Rheya (Natascha McElhone) i encara no ho ha superat. Mentre intenta continuar amb la seva vida amb les sessions de teràpia dels seus pacients i la seva solitària existència al seu habitatge. Una nit rep la visita d'uns homes que li mostren una cinta amb un missatge de Gibarian (Ulrich Tukur), un bon amic seu que comanda l'estació espaial Prometeus, que orbita al voltant del planeta Solaris, un món oceànic quasi desconegut per a l'home. En el missatge, Gibarian afirma que estan succeint coses molt estranyes allà, i que diversos dels membres de la missió han mort en estranyes circumstàncies. Per això li demana que viatgi fins a l'estació per intentar convèncer els tripulants d'abandonar el lloc i tornar a la Terra. Quan arriba a Prometeus, descobreix que només hi ha dos supervivents: el científic Snow (Jeremy Davies) i la metgessa Gordon (Viola Davis). Snow li comunica que Gibarian s'ha suicidat, encara que ningú no coneix els motius reals. Però la primera nit Kelvin descobreix el que succeeix a l'estació: després de somiar amb l'esposa morta, es desperta, i es troba amb la seva dona al costat. I encara que al principi es mostra escèptic, a poc a poc, i per a ell aquesta il·lusió es va convertint en una realitat. I el que és pitjor, a Warren l'horroritza el comportament liberal dels seus futurs consogres (Kathy Bats i Howard Hesseman). Ràpidament es convencerà que la seva nova missió a la vida és entorpir el matrimoni de la filla. Sinopsi: Amber (Madonna) és una dona atractiva de 40 anys, rica, extravagant i arrogant. És egòlatra, superficial i infantil, imposa els seus desitjos a tothom, envoltada per una aura de còlera reprimida, sarcàstica insatisfacció i secreta enyorança. Res no li fa feliç, fins i tot ni el seu ric i passiu marit Tony (Bruce Greenwood), farmacèutic de professió. Com que sap que la seva dona està avorrida de les habituals vacances exòtiques, Tony li fa una sorpresa a Amber enduent-se a ella i a altres dos parelles, Marina (Jeanne Tripplehorn) i Michael (David Thornton), Todd (Michael Beattie) i Debi (Elizabeth Banks) a un creuer privat que va de Grècia a Itàlia. Però com sempre, Amber rebutja els esforços del seu marit per complaure-la. Queixant-se de tot, des de la mida del jet privat fins els seus acompanyants, Amber perd els papers quan veu que l'impecable iot que estava esperant, en realitat és un vaixell grec de pescadors transformat, i amb una pudent tripulació, i el pitjor de tot, no té gimnàs. Obligada a unes vacacions sense cap tipus de comoditats, de jugar a les cartes i relaxar-se, Amber troba un blanc per descarregar l'ira, el primer oficial del vaixell, Giuseppe (Adriano Giannini), un jove i atlètic pescador amb un intel·ligent sentit de l'humor i una ira reprimida, odia els seus clients americans i tot el que aquests representen, especialment Amber. Amber percep el seu rebuig i comença a enfotre-se'n d'ell contrariant-lo contínuament. Desafiada per la negativa de Giuseppe d'acovardir-se davant de la imponent presència d'ella, es fica amb ell continuament ridiculitzant-lo davant tota la tripulació i la resta dels passatgers. Com que no vol defensar-se per no perdre la feina, Giuseppe està furiós, però també és conscient d'una involuntària i incontrolable atracció cap a Amber. Un dia, hores després que els seus acompanyants haguessin sortit a explorar unes coves submergides a l'aigua, Amber li exigeix a Giuseppe que la porti amb ells, malgrat les advertències sobre l'hora i el clima variable. En poc temps, el motor del vaixell s'atura i sense poder fer-hi res se'n va a la deriva a mesura que s'apropa la nit i les queixes malicioses d'Amber arriben a ser inaguantables. Dos dies a alta mar acaben naufragant a una illa deserta. De sobte, les normes han canviat. Amber ara depèn totalment de Giuseppe, i aquest se n'aprofita de la situació prenent represàlies contra ella. El resultat és un apassionat i divertit canvi de papers, amb un sorprenent final que ni Amber ni Giuseppe s'imaginen.     William Poole - The Real "Bill The Butcher" William Poole was a Nativist enforcer of The Native American Party, also known as The Know Nothing Party, which was a faction of the American Republican Party. The Know Nothing was a movement created by Nativists whom believed that the overwhelming immigration of German and Irish Catholic immigrants were a threat to republican values and controlled by the Pope in Rome. They were dubbed the Know Nothings by outsiders of their semi-secret organization. This had nothing to do with them knowing anything. It had to do with their reply when asked of the organization's activities, often stating, "I know nothing." Bill the Butcher was a leader of The Bowery Boys and known for his skills as being a good bare knuckle boxer. Poole's trade was that of a butcher, and was infuriated when many butchering licenses were being handed out to Irish immigrants. William Poole was born in Sussex County, New Jersey to parents of English protestant descent. His family moved to New York City in 1832 to open a butcher shop in Washington Market, Manhattan. Bill Poole trained in his father's trade and eventually took over the family store. In the 1840s, he worked with the Howard (Red Rover) Volunteer Fire Engine Company #34, Hudson & Christopher Street. Uunlike in the movie, William "The Butcher" Poole was shot in real life. However, he was shot at Stanwix Hall, a bar on Broadway near Prince. William Poole did not die in a glorious street battle against his Irish enemies. Instead, he died from the gun wound at his home on Christopher Street.

Of course, that was the aim of his magisterial scholarly work, and while unquestionably impressive, his tome turned out to be by no means the last word on the topic. Indeed over the intervening quarter century, quite to the contrary, we witnessed a continuously increasing outpouring of specialized political science, historical, philosophical, psychological, and other disciplinary studies with clearly ―no school of leadership‖with a single unifying theory emerging.

To his surprise and disbelief, the orb reveals itself to Dicky as a bizarre “pet” with extraordinary powers. Armed with his “CJ7” Dicky seizes this chance to overcome his poor background and shabby clothes and impress his fellow schoolmates for the first time in his life.

    Introduction: approaching performance in Spanish film Dean Allbritton, Alejandro Melero and Tom Whittaker The importance of screen acting has often been overlooked in studies on Spanish film. While several critical works on Spanish cinema have centred on the cultural, social and industrial significance of stars, there has been relatively little critical scholarship on what stars are paid to do: act. This is perhaps surprising, given the central role that acting occupies within a film. In his essay ‘Why Study Film Acting?’, Paul McDonald argues that acting is not only crucial to understanding the affective charge of mov- ies, but integral to the study of film as a whole (2004: 40). Yet, despite its significance, performance remains one of the most elusive and difficult aspects of film analysis. One of the reasons for this, according to Pamela Robertson Wojcik, is its apparent transparency (2004: 1). A ‘good’ actor supposedly renders their performance ‘invisible’, thereby concealing the process of acting from the audience, and engaging us within the emo- tional universe of the character. To this effect, discussion on acting is all too frequently evaluative: we think in terms of how convincing or natu- ralistic a given performance is, or are invited to appreciate the actorly skills and techniques that are brought to bear on the film. Yet, when it comes to writing about performance academically, it can prove altogether more challenging. It requires us to single out and momentarily freeze the flow of specific moments of performance within a film, and to break them down to their tiniest details. We need to pay attention to what Paul McDonald has called the ‘micromeanings of the voice and body’ (2004: 40), intricately drawing out the ways in which gesture, body, facial expression and vocal delivery work together to cre- ate meaning.
