Tata Motors Displays Its Commercial & Passenger Vehicle Range at The Tata Motors displays its commercial & passenger vehicle range at the Enterprise India 2011 in Yangon Yangon, November 10, 2011: Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, is exhibiting its commercial & passenger vehicles, from November 10 th to 13 th , 2011, at the Enterprise India 2011 exhibition, being held at Tatmadaw Hall, Yangon, Myanmar. This exhibition is being held in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Embassy of India, Yangon, to promote trade between India and Myanmar. A Heavy Turbo Truck Factory of MADI (MOI-2) has been set up by Tata Motors at Magwe under a Line of Credit (LOC), extended by the Government of India to the Government of Myanmar. The first phase of the plant, the assembly operation from fully built aggregates (SKD) supplied by Tata Motors, was inaugurated on December 31st , 2010. The second phase, of additional assembly operations of cabin and frame assembly, is expected to be completed by November 2011. Once fully commissioned, the Magwe plant will produce trucks ranging from 4 tonnes to 21 tonnes and also a range of bus chassis. Installed capacity of the plant is 1000 units per annum, which can be further expanded up to 5000 units. Tata Motors is now working on setting up a network of sales and service points across Myanmar. Products on display: Commercial Vehicles Tata Xenon: The pick-up segment features the new Tata Xenon, a perfect blend of style and performance. The Tata Xenon, available in two diesel engine options of 3.0L and 2.2L, has proven to be one of the best vehicles in terms of comfort and economy. The pick-up is available in single and double cab configurations, also comes with 4x2 and 4x4 drive options. The Tata Xenon is also available with a gasoline engine. Tata ACE: Launched 6 years back, the Tata Ace sparked a revolution in the goods carrier segment in India and is India’s first mini-truck with sub-one tonne capacity. It is now the first brand in goods carrier segment in India to cross the 100,000 mark, in sales, in a year. The Tata Ace has also crossed the 20,000 mark in both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and also good growth in many countries of Africa. The Tata Ace is powered by a small and a highly efficient unique twin cylinder 702cc IDI diesel engine. Suitable for both rural and urban use, the Tata Ace has the ability to carry a variety of payloads and has the agility to navigate narrow by-lanes with its turning radius of 4.3 metres. It delivers optimum performance, requires low maintenance, and has sporty car-like features for comfort in ride and handling. The Tata Ace meets all safety norms, including frontal crash, roof crush and rear wall strength. Tata Magic: The Tata Magic is built on the Ace platform. It is powered by a 702cc 4-stroke diesel engine which gives a maximum output of 16 hp @ 3200 rpm. Its optimum engine performance provides best in class fuel efficiency, low maintenance and operating cost for the operator. With an ergonomically designed all-steel cabin, Tata Magic has a flexible seating capacity of 4 to 7 passengers, in pleasant and spacious interiors including comfortable seats and ample legroom for an enjoyable ride for the passengers. The Tata Magic meets Euro II & III emission norms and has been developed for use in any market -- be it urban, semi-urban or rural. Tata LP 613 AC Bus: The Tata LP 613 29+1 seater AC Bus is an offering from Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd (TMML), a joint venture between Tata Motors & Marcopolo, the Brazil based global leaders in body building for buses & Coaches. These buses have modern contemporary exterior styling & have spacious comfortable interiors. With features like high back seats in 2x2 layout, cushion-type seat, anti skid Vinyl on wooden floor, sliding windows, this bus will meet all passenger transportation requirements. Tata LPT 407 Ex2 Truck: Tata 407 is currently being sold in 15 countries in South Asia and Africa. Tata Motors recently celebrated the silver jubilee of its market-leading light commercial vehicle, the Tata 407. Launched in 1986, the Tata 407 family clocks 7 out of every 10 vehicles sold in the category with a close to 75% market share in India. The Tata 407 was among the first, cutting across industries, to have demonstrated the supremacy of indigenously developed products in the face of international competition. About 55% of its owners are first-time users, indicating the self-employment it generates, a goal pursued by the Tata Group and Tata Motors. Gaining its success in RHD market; Tata Motors has launched the full forward version of 407 with Twin Tyre configuration with 3T payload in Left hand drive; with immediate entry in Myanmar to boost its sales during the year 2011-12. The vehicle offers a host of applications for industrial use, agricultural produce, dairy products, courier and parcel services, with high fuel efficiency and commensurate payload capacity. Tata LPT 613 4X2: Tata LPT 613 Ex2, a full forward truck is the enhanced version made available in 3800mm and 3400mm wheel base in Euro-II configuration with a payload capacity upto 4.5Ton. It has a proven 697 Turbo Charged Inter Cooler, 6 cylinder engine with 7500 GVW. More than 20000 vehicles are plying in North West Africa, Middle East, Russia & CIS with different emission standard meeting various country norms. The vehicle will be shortly available for retails in and around Myanmar, with features like Mechanical suspended driver seat, power steering, clutch booster & few delighters like utility box below co driver seat, IRVM, soft touch steering wheel, door cladding, wind deflector, body colour bumper, proximity & wide angle mirror. Tata LPK 2523 6X4 Tipper: The Tata LPK 2523 6X4 tipper is a 228hp BS II vehicle in 6X4 configuration, suitable for strenuous operations in both off road and on road conditions. Equipped with a G1150 9 speed gear box, it is an ideal vehicle for quick movement of earth, cement, construction equipments both within and outside the city limits. Tata LPT 1618 4X2 Truck: The Tata LPT 1618 is a 178hp BSII vehicle in 4X2 configuration, that is suitable for various applications like DSLB, HSLB, reefer trucks, water tanker, fuel tanker etc. Built in various wheel base options, this is the truck that is best for various applications needed by the customers. Tata LPT 2116 6x2 Truck: The Tata LPT 2116 is a 6X2 truck that has one live axle and a 6 speed transmission. Due to this combination, the overall tyre wear is lower and the load carrying capacity is also higher as compared to a 2 axle truck with one live axle. This truck is suitable for inter-city speedy movement of goods. Tata LPT 2123 6x4 Truck: Tata LPT 2123 is a 6X4 truck that has a 228hp BSII engine with 9 speed transmission. This truck is useful for quick movements between the cities and thus reduces the overall turnaround time. Due to higher power it is suitable for applications like reefer, sewage tankers and water tankers. Both, the Tata LPT 2116 6x2 and Tata LPT 2123 6x4 trucks are presently being assembled at the Heavy Turbo Truck Factory at Magwe, Myanmar. Passenger Cars: Tata Indica Vista : The new-generation hatchback has been given a complete makeover. The new Indica Vista comes with a wheelbase of 2470 mm. Indica Vista is a spacious and comfortable 5 seater hatch. The rear sloping wind screen also increases the sense of spaciousness in the passenger cabin. The Indica Vista is available with a new range of world class diesel and petrol engines and transmissions with a new suspension. The car is being offered with the new 1.3 litre QUADRAJET Diesel engine and 1.4 litre Safire Petrol engines. The top end Indica Vista has 4 spoke steering wheel which sports audio controls, which controls a fully integrated 2-DIN music system. It offers connectivity via USB, Auxiliary input and Bluetooth using the Blue 5 technology that helps pair upto 5 mobile phones. Outer rear view mirrors can be adjusted electrically using the joystick on the drivers side door pad and electrically operated HVAC controls add style and convenience. Besides, Indica Vista has adjustable driving positions with tilt-adjustable steering wheels and height adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support. In the rear, the 60:40 flip and fold rear seat makes room for luggage. Tata Aria : The Tata Aria redefines several benchmarks with its design and technologies, offering class leading features that take comfort and safety to a new height. The dynamic exteriors bear a distinctive lunging silhouette complemented by a unique A-pillar sweep and a well planted stance. Wrap-around dual barreled headlamps enhance the signature Tata grill, while the chrome underlining the glasshouse creates a distinctive kinetic beltline. The interiors, with three rows of theatre style seating, present a luxurious world of premium features comprising 3D surround sound, dimming roof lamps, a state-of-the-art infotainment system, multifunctional steering wheel, dual air conditioning with automatic climate control and cruise control. Besides, the chassis frame comprising advanced hydro formed members, a stiffened body cage, and dual zone collapsible steering make the Aria one of the safest vehicles. The selectable 4x4 is equipped with a Torque-on-Demand System which significantly enhances all- terrain capabilities.

In this context this paper explores sources of innovation and technological capability in the Indian automobile industry. In last decade Indian auto industry emerged as one of the fastest growing industry with increasing levels of technological sophistication in auto industries amongst emerging countries. This paper shows that industrial policy set up challenges for firm in form of constraint to develop products with higher local suppliers and helped development of auto component supplier industry.
