>>> SAMHSA’s 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health Report Findings The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). The annual survey is the nation’s primary resource for data on mental health and substance use among Americans. As the NSDUH demonstrates, substance misuse and mental illness continue to be major problems for Americans. These issues demand continued attention and focus across all American communities. The data also reflect impressive progress on the nation’s opioid crisis. >>> Recording and Presentation from Sept. 10 ODM OhioRISE Presentation On Sept. 10 the Department of Medicaid (ODM) hosted a webinar to discuss the future OhioRISE (Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence) specialized managed care program which aims to better serve children and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs. >>> OhioMHAS Guide to Financial Literacy and Education Resources In July, OhioMHAS released a Guide to Financial Literacy and Education Resources in response to a request from Ohio’s behavioral health provider community. As Ohioans continue to feel the effects of the global coronavirus pandemic, the Department would like to take this opportunity to remind our partners of the availability of these resources. The document contains links to information, coaching sessions, and training on a variety of topics, including: budgeting, money management, financial planning, understanding benefits, credit counseling, debt reduction, and more.

>>> Beyond Toxic Stress: Why Preventing Adversity is Not Enough – Sept. 21 • The national Children’s Hospital Association will host Beyond Toxic Stress: Why Preventing Adversity is Not Enough webinar on Sept. 21 from 2-3 p.m. This webinar, led by Dr. Andrew Garner, primary care pediatrician and clinical professor of Pediatrics at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, will focus on: defining toxic stress and describing how it helps to elucidate "the problem"; defining relational health and describe how it helps to elucidate "the solution”; and defining at least three components of an integrated public health approach to build relational health.

>>> Employing Young Adult Peer Providers Webinar – Sept. 29-30 The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is hosting a free, two-day Employing Young Adult Peer Providers webinar on Sept. 29-30. Join OhioMHAS Recovery Supports staff to learn how to enhance your organizations’ services by hiring, recruiting, supervising, and training young adult peer providers, as well as learning about the many assets they bring to the table.

>>> Prevention FIRST! 2020 Coalition Academy – Sept. 29-30 PreventionFIRST! is hosting its 2020 Coalition Academy “Prevention Promotion in the Pandemic Era” on Sept. 29-30. This free training is ideal for community coalitions, leaders, public health professionals, behavioral health specialists, and social workers to learn about prevention. This year’s keynote presenter, Dr. Kelly Blankenship of Dayton Children’s Hospital, will discuss prevention and resiliency during the pandemic. >>> Tristate Trauma Network's Annual TIC Fall Conference – Oct. 29 & Nov.10 The Tristate Trauma Network will host its (virtual) Annual Trauma-Informed Care Fall Conference "Trauma Stewardship and Resilience" on Oct. 29 and Nov. 10. The conference will feature keynote remarks from Laura van Dernoot Lipsky, founder and director of The Trauma Stewardship Institute and author of Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others, as well as a trauma survivor and local experts. >>> Ohio Suicide Prevention Coalition Assessment The Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF) has recently launched an assessment tool to identify strengths and challenges of Ohio’s suicide prevention coalitions that will provide unique local insights, inform statewide planning and help creation and implementation of professional development opportunities to strengthen coalitions and their efforts. OSPF encourages all Ohio suicide prevention coalitions and any coalition working to prevent suicide in communities to participate in this important process.
