Abstract: Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is being grown in harsh environment in Iraq and is mostly subjected to abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, pH and temperature. Both alfalfa and its nitrogen fixing symbiotic bacteria Sinorhizobium meliloti are affected by these environmental stresses. Enhancing nitrogen fixation biologically could be achieved through selection of tolerant strains of S. meliloti to these environmental stresses and inoculating them to the crop, also growing tolerant cultivars. This study examines phenotypic diversity for tolerance to drought, salinity, temperature and pH. Sixty isolates sampled from different areas of Iraq. The results revealed high degree of phenotypic diversity in Sinorhizobium populations. Furthermore, the isolates which showed tolerance to drought stress also showed tolerance to salinity and high degree of temperature, indicating direct relationship between three physiological path ways. Also 58.3% of drought tolerant isolates were alkaline tolerant they tolerated up to pH 9, point to say almost all drought tolerant isolates in this study illustrated strong + positive reaction to catalase enzyme. And 91.6% themes were negative for Gelatinase enzyme test. While only 50% of drought sensitive isolates were negative for drought sensitive isolates could grow at high temperature (42 °C). With this study, the contribution to the knowledge of the Hellenic and Eastern Mediterranean gastropod biodiversity of the studied families is continued, and an expansion of the search in other substrates and deeper waters of the NW Aegean Sea with emphasis on the minor in size species during the period from October 2008 to January 2014. Results: Thirty seven species belonging to seven families (Cerithiopsidae, Fissurellidae, Phasianellidae, Scissurellidae, Siliquariidae, Skeneidae, and Triphoridae) were identified and their biodiversity was compared with the current checklists of marine gastropod molluscs for the Hellenic Seas based on previous surveys. In this collection of gastropods, one species (Emarginula decorata Deshayes, 1863) is a new alien for the Mediterranean Sea, 14 species are new for the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and 16 species are new for the Hellenic fauna (with the one above mentioned alien species included). The main identification characteristics and ecological information such as habitat, distribution, alien expansion paths to the NW Aegean Sea and origin of the species are given and discussed.

The compilation of the available references revealed a total of 1065 species belonging to 7 classes (Caudofoveata, Solenogastres, Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Scaphopoda, and Cephalopoda). Most of the reported species belong to the class Gastropoda (706 species), followed by Bivalvia (279 species), Cephalopoda (50 species), Polyplacophora (17 species), Scaphopoda (10 species), Caudofoveata (2 species), and Solenogastres (1 species). Among the coasts of Turkey, the highest number of molluscan species was recorded from the Aegean Sea (825 species), followed by the Levantine Sea (807 species), Sea of Marmara (537 species), and the Black Sea (155 species). Of the 1065 mollusc taxa, 118 species are alien ones that originated outside the Mediterranean Sea. Among the listed species, Timoclea roemeriana (Bivalvia), and Sepiola ligulata and Abraliopsis morisii (both from Cephalopoda) are new records for the Turkish mollusc fauna, 11 species of the classes Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, and Bivalvia (Leptochiton boettgeri, Cerithium protractum, Similiphora similior, Cerithiopsis diadema, Rissoa guerinii, Crepidula moulinsii, Crepidula unguiformis, Bela zenetouae, Doto coronata, Lima marioni, and Limaria loscombi) are new reports for the Levantine coast of Turkey, and 2 gastropod species (Acirsa subdecussata and Monotygma lauta) are new reports for the Aegean coast of Turkey.

Petar, Vele Srakane). Z uporabo različnih tehnik vzorčevanja sem popisovala mehkužce (brez glavonožcev) od pršnega do cirkalitoralnega pasu na 51 vzorčevalnih postajah in v 29 različnih biocenozah. Na obravnavanem območju sem popisala 250 vrst mehkužcev, od tega 98 vrst morskih školjk, 147 vrst morskih polžev, 2 vrsti slonovih zobcev in 3 vrste hitonov. Na dveh postajah sem zabeležila prisotnost invazivne školjke Anadara transversa (Say, 1822), na eni postaji pa tujerodno vrsto Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793).

The compilation of the available references revealed a total of 1065 species belonging to 7 classes (Caudofoveata, Solenogastres, Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Scaphopoda, and Cephalopoda). Most of the reported species belong to the class Gastropoda (706 species), followed by Bivalvia (279 species), Cephalopoda (50 species), Polyplacophora (17 species), Scaphopoda (10 species), Caudofoveata (2 species), and Solenogastres (1 species). Among the coasts of Turkey, the highest number of molluscan species was recorded from the Aegean Sea (825 species), followed by the Levantine Sea (807 species), Sea of Marmara (537 species), and the Black Sea (155 species). Of the 1065 mollusc taxa, 118 species are alien ones that originated outside the Mediterranean Sea. Among the listed species, Timoclea roemeriana (Bivalvia), and Sepiola ligulata and Abraliopsis morisii (both from Cephalopoda) are new records for the Turkish mollusc fauna, 11 species of the classes Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, and Bivalvia (Leptochiton boettgeri, Cerithium protractum, Similiphora similior, Cerithiopsis diadema, Rissoa guerinii, Crepidula moulinsii, Crepidula unguiformis, Bela zenetouae, Doto coronata, Lima marioni, and Limaria loscombi) are new reports for the Levantine coast of Turkey, and 2 gastropod species (Acirsa subdecussata and Monotygma lauta) are new reports for the Aegean coast of Turkey.

Abstract This paper deals with the Archaeogastropoda occurring in the Ionic waters of Salento (Southern Apulia), with remarks on their geographic distribution and habitats. The check-list includes 73 species. The geo- graphic ranges of Emarginula tuberculosa Libassi, 1859, Gibbula vimontiae (Monterosato, 1884) and Cal- liostoma gualterianum (Philippi, 1848) are extended to the Ionian Sea.
