Gustafson says. "I felt a temptation to put the dwarves in elaborate, individual costumes, but I resisted it, because in the story they don't have dis- tinguishing names and characteristics. Since their daily work was mining, their house has elements of metal including the heavy plates and utensils - plus, the alchemic symbols for copper and tin worked across the upper beam in the background. If your number be small, march in a single file, keeping at such a dis- tance from each other as to prevent one shot from killing two men.” These are just two of a list of fighting techniques and methods known as Rogers' Ranging Rules, compiled by Robert Rogers in the mid-1750s.
