DATE: October 2016 1. Based on the NATO/PfP customers demand on education and training in EOD area, the NATO EOD COE delivers Initial EOD Staff Officer Training Course (I EOD SOT). 2. NATO and PfP nations are invited to attend the I EOD SOT course which will take place in Trencin, Slovakia from 6 – 17 FEBRUARY 2017. 3. Deadline for registration is 12 DECEMBER 2016. The maximum number of seats on the course is limited to 16 students. 4. The aim of this I EOD SOT Course is to educate and train non-qualified EOD staff officers to achieve basic level of proficiency IAW NATO and EU standards. Students should understand how to plan, prepare, command, control and coordinate EOD operations within multinational operations at Battalion and Brigade tactical levels of command. 5. The I EOD SOT course is recorded in NATO Education and Training Opportunities Catalogue (ETOC) as NATO approved course. GENERAL OVERVIEW a) Scope: The I EOD SOT course will be delivered by the NATO EOD COE in Trencin, Slovakia from Monday 6th of February till Friday 17th of February 2017 (2 weeks). The first week will be dedicated to the EOD standards and procedures and the second week will be focused on a practical training and exercises. The ADL (Advanced Distance Learning) phase is an integral part of the course. The eLessons will be available to students via internet a week prior to the course. Every student is obliged to attend the eLessons and pass a final test. After successful completion of the eLearning phase, the certificate will be available for download. Completion of the eLearning phase is required NLT Sunday 5th February 2017. Every attendant is supposed to submit the eLearning course completion certificate during In-processing. Important: The certificate is necessary for attending the next two weeks of the course! b) Aim: The I EOD SOT course is designed to educate and train non-qualified EOD staff officers to achieve basic level of proficiency IAW NATO and EU standards. Students should understand how to plan, prepare, command, control and coordinate EOD operations within multinational operations at Battalion and Brigade tactical levels of command. c) Training Area: This course covers EOD and IEDD areas. It is based on NATO and EU Standards and focuses on C2. It does not deal with RSPs (render safe procedures) and operator skills. Information status is NATO unclassified, releasable to PfP. d) Target Audience: Both EOD and non-EOD educated personnel. 1) As a first priority, military staff officers OF-1 to OF-4 level and senior staff NCOs serving in HQs. 2) As a second priority, from NATO or Partner Nations assigned or selected for assignment to a Headquarters or Agencies or in national assignment in a staff position requiring NATO exercise coordination instruction. e) Learning Objectives: See Annex B. f) Validity: After completion, attendees will get a certificate and the EOD COE metallic badge. 2. ATTENDANCE Attendees are expected to arrive to Trencin, Slovakia (attendee’s responsibility) NLT on Monday 6th of February 2017. The Course will be finished no later than 12:00 hrs. on Friday 17th February 2017. Page 3 - 8 NATO UNCLASSIFIED RELEASABLE TO PfP NATO UNCLASSIFIED RELEASABLE TO PfP a) Fees: The course is free of charge for sponsoring nations (SVK, CZE, POL, HUN, ROU). The fee for non - EOD COE sponsoring nations and PfP is 100€/attendee. This amount is to be provided to the EOD COE Training Branch in cash money during In-Processing. b) Registration: Attendees are to confirm their attendance by sending completed Registration Form (see Annex C) and email to the Action Officer and Course Director NLT 12 DEC 2016. Annex C is only a sample. For an electronic version of the Registration Form go to www.eodcoe.org. – part Education & Training / 2017 Courses and Training Events Calendar / I EOD SOT - RegForm. Please make sure that the Registration Form is completed as well as the Service Career (CV), otherwise the registration will not be finalized. All applicants will receive an electronic letter from the Action Officer NLT 16 DEC 2016. “Confirmation of admission to the course” or “Regret letter” will be distributed to each applicant. It is highly recommended that no applicant starts managing the arrangements before receiving the confirmation of admission to the course! c) In-processing: All participants will be in-processed during the 1st day of the course. It will run from 07:30 to 08:00AM at the EOD COE – Olbrachtova 5, Trencin, Slovakia. Each attendee should be in possession of: An individual ID card (attendees from EU only) or a passport (attendees from non EU countries), NATO Travel Order / equivalent. d) Dress code: BDU for military personnel (no helmet, no weapon). e) Equipment: Notepads will be provided to students. 3. SUPPORT AND REAL LIFE a) Transportation: Each attendee is responsible for his transportation. Arrival by airplane The recommended airport is Vienna, Austria. A Shuttle Bus commutes approximately every 1 hour from Vienna Airport to Bratislava Bus Station (www.eurolines.sk). There are plenty of public transport options from Bratislava to Trencin. Bus/train schedules may be easy found on websites (http://cp.atlas.sk, please note that information is available in English and German language). Arrival by car Trencin is easy to reach from Bratislava driving on highway D1 in the direction to Zilina. For more details consult the on www.google.com/maps Driving regulations in SLOVAKIA are strict: • the lights must be turned on throughout the whole year, • reflex (reflective) vest must be at driver´s hand when driving a vehicle on Slovak roads. When unexpected stop of vehicle occurs (broken car, flat tire, etc.) the driver and every occupant of the vehicle must put the vest on before exiting the car, • max. speeds are 50/90/130 km/hour, • 0.00 % alcohol tolerance when driving a vehicle, Page 4 - 8 NATO UNCLASSIFIED RELEASABLE TO PfP NATO UNCLASSIFIED RELEASABLE TO PfP • utilization of mobile phones while driving is prohibited. Please note that an electronic vignette is required for driving on highways in Slovakia. Electronic vignette can be purchased on almost all gas stations in Slovakia or on-line on https://eznamka.sk/selfcare/purchase/ b) Accommodation: Students are supposed to arrange the hotel reservations in the city of Trencin on their own since it is not the EOD COE responsibility. c) Meals: There will be 90 minutes’ lunch-break in everyday schedule (except on Friday the 10th). There are plenty of restaurants in a walking distance from EOD COE building. d) Real life information: Slovakia is part of European Union; currency is Euro.
