Buildings, spaces and historic narratives are not in themselves heritage but they can become it.

Source: ABC News. “I’m happy, and I’m sad for the people who have gone already … we had a minute’s silence for them … but it’s been very tiring fighting for this for three years,” said Maxine Kunde, the leader Mgr Charles Gauci - Bishop of Darwin of a group of 42 survivors that took civil action against the church and Commonwealth in the Northern Territory Supreme Court. At age six, Ms Kunde, along with her brothers and sisters, was forcibly taken from her mother under the then-federal government’s policy of removing children of mixed descent from their parents. Garden Point survivors, many of whom travelled to Darwin from all over Australia, agreed yesterday to settle the case, and Maxine Kunde (ABC News/Tiffany Parker) received an informal apology from representatives of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, in a private session.Ms Kunde said members of the group were looking forward to getting a formal public apology which they had been told would be delivered in a few weeks’ time. Darwin Bishop Charles Gauci said on behalf of the diocese he apologised to those who were abused at Garden Point.

  • Valletta, Our Capital City
VALLETTA, OUR CAPITAL CITY A CITY BUILT BY GENTLEMEN FOR GENTLEMEN The story of Malta's capital is inextricably linked with the island's mythology – after laying Valletta's foundation stone in 1566 the Knights of St John created an elegant baroque city from an arid, empty peninsula. But, don’t imagine that it’s just a relic of the past. Behind the foreboding fortifications you’ll find a living city that still has plenty of stories to tell, home to ground breaking contemporary architecture, delicious cuisine and a thriving nightlife scene. Valletta – built by the Knights of St John on a peninsula that's only 1km by 600m. Its founder decreed that it should be 'a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen', and it retains its 16th-century elegance. It may be small, but it's packed full of sights; when Unesco named Valletta a World Heritage Site, it described it as 'one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world'. The Renzo Piano–designed City Gate, Parliament Building and Opera House have changed the cityscape and galvanised it into life. These sights, along with Valletta's status as European Capital of Culture for 2018, have seen the city reborn, with new museums, restored golden-stone fortresses, and new hotels, bars and restaurants in converted 16th-century mansions. VALLETTA A VERY IMPORTANT CAPITAL CITY THESE DAYS.. EU Presidency 2017 is a big year for Malta as the island takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union together with Netherlands and Slovakia. The European Presidency programme takes place over 18 months, and is split into three successive presidencies known as Presidency Trios.

The Complete Sacred Music of Nicolò Isouard (1773 – 1818) and Maltese Sacred Music for The Order of Malta in the Late Eighteenth Century. By Richard Sydney Benedict Divall Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa – Monash 1992) and Doctor of the University (Honoris Causa – Australian Catholic University 2004) A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy MCD University of Divinity 2013 MCD University of Divinity To Whom it May Concern This is to certify that the thesis and music editions presented by me for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy comprises only my original work except where due acknowledgment is made in the text to all other material used. Signature: ____________________________________ Name in Full: ____________________________________ Date: ____________________________________ Abstract. Nicolò Isouard (1773-1818) is considered Malta’s national composer. After studies in France and Naples, he returned to his homeland, where from 1794 to 1798 he was an aspiring composer, and employee of the Order of Malta. In 1994 a collection of thirty-three autographs of hitherto unknown sacred music by Isouard appeared at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, and I recognised the importance of these manuscripts. My intentions are to provide a précis on the Order, as the sovereign entity ruling Malta at the time, and the sacred music composed for them in their great Conventual Church in Valletta – now St John’s Co-Cathedral. The thesis will provide the background to Isouard’s early career and a complete edition and commentary of all of his sacred music, including additional works found during the research process, and a catalogue of his stage works.
