REPORT OF THE PRESBYTERAL SESSION BUSINESS COMMITTEE The Conference adopted Resolution 4/1. 1/9 5. CONFERENCE ARRANGEMENTS The Conference adopted Resolutions 5/3, 5/4, 5/5 and 5/6. 1/10 The Conference was addressed on the theme of The Presbyter as Evangelist by The Revd Trey Hall, Director of Evangelism & Growth. Responses were made by The Revds Jill Marsh and Steven J Wild, and the Conference engaged in discussion. 1/11 The Revd Dr Nicola V Price-Tebbutt, the Secretary of the Faith and Order Committee, introduced Agenda item 25: The Theology and Ecclesiology underpinning the Diaconate and the Methodist Diaconal Order. Deacon Karen McBride, the Warden of the Order, responded and the Conference engaged in discussion. 1/12 The Conference adjourned at 16.01. 1/13 The Conference reassembled at 16.30. 2 1/14 PASTORAL ADDRESS AND HOLY COMMUNION The Conference shared in a service of Holy Communion, during which the President addressed the Conference. 1/15 The Conference adjourned at 18.33. 3 The Methodist Conference DAILY RECORD No 2 2019 PRESBYTERAL SESSION Friday, 28 June 2019 2/1 The Conference assembled at 09.15, and shared in worship. 2/2 The Rt Revd Dr Christopher J Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry, The Revd Dr J M Ainsley Griffiths, Director of Faith, Order and Unity for the Church in Wales, The Revds Leo E and Charlotte Osborn, and The Revd Dr Elizabeth A Kent, Director of the Wesley Study Centre facilitated the Conference in a conversation about The Nature of Ministry in the light of the Covenant. 2/3 The Conference adjourned at 10.48 to continue the conversation in district groups. 2/4 The Conference reassembled at 11.36. 2/5 The Revd Dr Elizabeth A Kent, The Revd Leo E Osborn, The Revd Dr J M Ainsley Griffiths and The Rt Revd Dr Christopher J Cocksworth reflected on the district conversations. 2/6 The Conference went into closed session at 11.53. 2/7 37. MINISTERIAL CANDIDATES’ AND PROBATIONERS’ OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE 1. Preachers Recommended for Continuance on Trial The Conference adopted Resolution 37/4, p 355, deleting *Arce Rosales, Ruth 2023 p 357, amending Smith, Katherine Jane to Smith, Katharine Jane p 357, adding Thorne, Penelope Jane 2021 p 357, amending Tull, Marcia Yvone to Tull, Marcia Yvonne 2/10 4. PRESBYTERAL TRANSFERS AND REINSTATEMENTS 1. Recommendations of the Ministerial Candidates’ Selection Committee acting as a Transfer Committee (under S.O.730) 2/11/1 The Conference recommended, with the required majority, acceptance by the Representative Session of the following applicants for transfer to be received into Full Connexion: in 2019 Robert James Birnie (Church of the Nazarene) Felicity Eunice Myfanwy Ferriter (Church of England) Rachel Lynn Frank (Alliance of Baptists (USA)) Japhet Kaberia Kabilu (The Methodist Church in Kenya) Robert Jilenda Kasema (Pentecostal Assemblies of God, Zambia) Lansford Herbert Penn-Timity (Congregational Evangelical Mission, Sierra Leone) in 2020 Cleopas Sibanda (Methodist Church in Zimbabwe) 2/11/2 The Conference accepted the recommendation of the Ministerial Candidates’ Selection Committee that the following be recognised and regarded as presbyters in Full Connexion with the Conference under Standing Order 732(2) and (3): Martin Pieter Beukes (The Methodist Church of Southern Africa) Shannon Casey DeLaureal (United Methodist Church) Richard Muzei Kyaira (The Methodist Church in Kenya) Aboseh Ngwana (Presbyterian Church in Cameroon) Rajbharat Patta (Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church, India) Joan Marion Pell (United Methodist Church) Manoa Ratubalavu (Methodist Church in Fiji) 2/11/3 3. Recommendations for reinstatements to Full Connexion The Conference concurred with the recommendation of a Reinstatement Committee that Helen Anne Reah should be reinstated to Full Connexion. 2/11/4 The Conference adopted Resolution 38/1, p 360, 1.3, noting Cleopas Sibanda (Methodist Church in Zimbabwe) will be received into Full Connexion in 2020 p 361, 1.7, deleting Ildlo Christino de Oliveira Junior (The Methodist Church in Brazil) p 361, 1.10, deleting Tokunbo Ezekiel Olusegun Asogbon (Methodist Church Nigeria) 2/11/5 The Conference, by a Standing Vote, adopted Resolution 38/2, inserting in the wording of the resolution ‘or at a specified date’ after the word ‘now’.
