Located in the city centre: Map of Competition Arena: A map of the competition arena appears on the back of your accreditation card. Opening Ceremony The Opening Ceremony will start at 17.00 hrs on Saturday 11th April at the Sports Palace. Each team/nation will be represented by 2 lifters (male and female) in sports uniform, one of them being the flag bearer and the other bearing the national signboard. These two athletes must be available from 16.40 at the latest, at the entrance of the competition Hall where representatives from the Organising Committee will give further information. The entrance of the nations will be in accordance with IOC procedures.     Last updated on 18 August 2017 IOC reanalysis programme Beijing 2008 and London 2012 The protection of clean athletes and the fight against doping are top priorities for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. Programme initiated prior the Olympic Games Rio 2016 To provide a level playing field for all clean athletes at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the IOC put special measures in place, including targeted pre-tests and the reanalysis of stored samples from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012, following an intelligence-gathering process that started in August 2015 – in consultation with WADA and International Federations (IFs). The additional analyses on samples collected during the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012 were performed with improved analytical methods, in order to possibly detect prohibited substances that could not be identified by the analysis performed at the time of these editions of the Olympic Games. For reference, some reanalysis of the stored samples of Beijing 2008 and London 2012 was already conducted in 2009 and 2015 respectively, leading to the sanctioning of six athletes. The programme for Beijing samples has concluded due to the statute of limitations. The total number of confirmed Adverse Analytical Findings (AAFs) by reanalysis in 2016 was announced as 101. Targeted re-analysis programme In order to support the investigations of Prof. McLaren and his team, the IOC ordered a number of targeted re-analyses of Russian athletes’ samples during the course of 2016. In December 2016, the IOC also extended the mandate of the Oswald Commission to examine all samples collected from Russian athletes during the Olympic Games London 2012, following the findings of the completed Independent Person Report.

Abstract and Keywords Set within the context under which ethnic-Turks suffered seriously amidst rising communism in post World War II Eastern Europe, this thesis examines the socio- political-cultural circumstances surrounding the life and sporting career of Olympic weightlifter Naim Suleymanoglu, a Bulgarian-born Muslim of Turkish descent. This thesis examines several phases of Suleymanoglu’s life, much of which was devoted to aiding and abetting a mass exodus of Muslim ethnic-Turkish community members from Bulgaria to Turkey, the pursuit of Olympic achievement, and service to the enhancement of the sport of weightlifting in Turkey. By utilizing sports platforms and his remarkable success in weightlifting, widely reported by world media, Suleymanoglu’s life, in the end, translated to a new dimension surrounding the identification of Turkey in the sporting world, one in which weightlifting rivalled time-honoured wrestling as Turkey’s national sport.

    Event Review Women’s 48kg Snatch · Tan Yayun (CHN) became the first woman in this category to repeat her gold medal in Snatch since Wang Mingjuan (CHN) took gold in 2002, 2003 and 2005 successively. · Sibel Özkan Konak (TUR, silver) equalled her personal best in Snatch, silver in 2010. In 2009, she claimed her first World Championships medal in Women’s 48kg (bronze). · Bronze medallist Panida Khamsri (THA) gave Thailand a first medal in Snatch (Women’s 48kg) since 2007, when Pramsiri Bhunpithak (THA) claimed silver. Khamsri now owns a medal in each discipline, after silver in Clean & Jerk and Total in 2011. Clean and Jerk · Tan gave China a 10th Clean & Jerk gold medal in this category. In Snatch and Total the nation collected 11 each. · Khamsri claimed silver with a successful attempt of 108 kilogrammes, her heaviest weight in World Championships history. · Sri Wahyuni Agustiani (INA) claimed bronze on her World Championships debut. She is the second Indonesian medal winner in any category since Raema Lisa Rumbewas (INA) in Women’s 53kg in 2006. Total · Tan became the second woman to successfully defend her title in this category, after Wang Mingjuan won in 2002, 2003 and 2005. She also became the second woman with six total gold medals in Women’s 48kg, after Wang Mingjuan (11, 2002-2009). · For the 11th time in 13 World Championships one lifter claimed gold in all events. · The winning weight of 194 kilogrammes is the lowest since Wei Gao’s (CHN) 190 in 2001. · Tan won by a margin of five kilogrammes over Özkan, the smallest difference since 2009, when Wang Mingjuan beat that same Özkan by two kilogrammes.

    Last updated on 1 February 2017 IOC reanalysis programme Beijing 2008 and London 2012 The protection of clean athletes and the fight against doping are top priorities for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. To provide a level playing field for all clean athletes at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the IOC put special measures in place, including targeted pre-tests and the reanalysis of stored samples from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012, following an intelligence-gathering process that started in August 2015 – in consultation with WADA and International Federations (IFs). Forty-one athletes eligible for Rio were suspended as a result. The additional analyses on samples collected during the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012 were performed with improved analytical methods, in order to possibly detect prohibited substances that could not be identified by the analysis performed at the time of these editions of the Olympic Games. For reference, some reanalysis of the stored samples of Beijing 2008 and London 2012 was already conducted in 2009 and 2015 respectively, leading to the sanctioning of six athletes. The programme for Beijing samples has concluded due to the statute of limitations. The total number of confirmed Adverse Analytical Findings (AAFs) by reanalysis in 2016 was reported as 98 in July and there have been 3 further AAFs since then, bringing the total for 2016 to 101. Samples from London have been reanalysed to assist the McLaren report, and there are likely to be more confirmed AAFs in the coming weeks and months as the reanalysis programme continues in consultation with WADA and the IFs.
